Love my '05 XRS...not a race car, but plenty fast and 30 mpg. I also have a Saleen Mustang that doesn't get driven much and have owned a vette, so I know performance. The XRS is my daily driver, it's still alot of fun to drive, doesn't cost much to maintain and at 2700 pounds makes that 170 horses go a long way. Oh, and did I say plenty fast and 30 mpg?

in late 2003 early 2004 ,2zz engines did came 180 Hp from the factory , in 2005 was droped again to 170 for smog emisions , however was stil available thru Canada until 2005 or the Pontiac Vibe GT until 2005 . The 2zz Toyota engine is now Avalable with 180 n/a or 230 hp supergarged Lotus Elise .

This is the older XRS...it has the Yamaha built 1.8L 2ZZ motor that revs over 8K and puts out 190HP.

Sweet! Specs? From what I may guess it might be Stick shift, 5 or 6 speed, lowered, GReddy exhaust tip, possible sport cat back, CAI (Cold air intake) That's a nice sounding car you've got there, it might be GReddy, or some other name-brand exhaust. No generic brand can make a noise like that.

@da7om360 LIIIIIIIIIFT! it pretty much is the same until the cam switches to a high lift lobe. it's pretty much like VTEC but kicks MUCH harder. but do not get confused. the 1ZZ (140hp) and 2ZZ (180hp) do not share any parts like how hondas are. toyota makes things hard by not being compatible with other engines within the family.

once i saw a COMPLETLY modded Corolla XRS on the highway. all black, yellow fogs, 10k low beams etc. that car was one hell of a corolla. the corolla does have alot of potential. almost 98% of all corollas forsale near me have the 4-speed auto. so to me the corolla isnt the best car to mod up.

@Dart00Z R U referring to V6 Mustangs because those are the only ones governed to such speeds..05 to 10 Mustang GTs run 140 and with tunes/degoverned will run 150+ The new 5.0s ungoverned will run past 170.. don't just believe me, look around.

first off this is a 05-06 corolla xrs, i would start off with an injen CAI, then a PPE header with a custom 2.5 inch cat back, take it to an exhaust shop to do it for you.

@imaginedatyo There's a reason why my comment has 46 thumbs up: it's funny. 170hp out of a 1.8 liter engine is pretty impressive considering there's no direct injection, just old school dual camshaft tech. Very respectable performance for a car that sold for $18k in 2005. The problem for this car is it's awesome sound. You would expect to hear that from a 300+ hp, straight-piped track-day racer. It would be like a Toyota Prius emitting a V8 roar... awkward.

Lumi Not a problem at all. The ones that sound like this are modified and making about 200 hp. Not bad for a car that weighs 2600 lbs so with a good driver it is a respectable race car. The beauty of the sound comes from Toyota's partnership with Yamaha while developing this engine. If I remember right out of Toyota's top 10 engines this one is number 1. This car did not sell well but most people including me had no idea what they were looking at.

STOCK. You start swaping motors and it's a completely different ball game. even upgrading i can get the 2zz up to 260 no problem for about $2500. And then you bring up swaps?? Then I should just get a ae86 and drop a damn 2jz in it, then what.

Lets grow up people. we ALL know corollas arent sports cars. not even the ae86. doesnt mean making it "fast" or "quick" is out. Corollas(especially the 97 time frame) was a respectable chassis, mostly recognized in countries outside the U.S. In the U.S the corolla lost appeal of the "boy racers" to honda. which is fine..because now when you see an adequately tuned corolla it stands out due to rarity. Face it, its underrated in the states.

If anything, people should hate the U.S. devision of toyota(primarily the U.S. in general) for not allowing great version of such cars to be released here. Not just the corolla, mugen hondas, fords only sold in austrailia...the list goes on. So ultimately..its your own ignorance that grieves these perceptions of the car. (I've seen V-6 mustangs get owned by the xrs)?? ive also raced both stock rsx type s and last generation civic si and all cars are VERY close. I admit they're no supercars but for there price FTW!! and for those level headed hobbiest reading this with my experiences the civic si is a splinter slower than the xrs but has LSD..and the rsx type s is a splinter faster than the xrs
