I was so used to the "manipulative mean girl who wants to get into the popular boy's pants at any cost" trope that i immediately hated Imogen right from the get go. I thought for sure that she was lying about her dog's death so he wouldn't refuse her. But it turns out, nope! She's not like that at all. She's just a ditzy sweetheart who has a crush on the wrong guy. That smile she gives them in the last episode made my heart melt. I can't wait to see more of her in season 2.

Your theory regarding Olivia Colman is totally what happened btw. They thought she'd never say yes to such a small role in such a small production but Alice Oseman said that she always imagined her as Nicks mom. Someone in the production team knew her and just sent her the script and she loved it so much that she wanted to be a part of it. She could only make it to set for 3 days or so but they made the best of it.

The production could only get Olivia Colman for two full days of filming. Kit said it was very quick filming his scenes with her, but she was so wonderful to him. During the filming of the coming out scene, Kit's performance made Olivia cry for real, and she suddenly forgot her lines. She just said Kit's little face and emotions made her emotional too. Which really impressed her. She is back for season two, and I have been told they got her for more filming time which is fantastic!

I will never get tired of watching people experience this show for the first time. Some really lovely little details thrown in along the way… - Isaac’s book at the rugby match is the biography of Gareth Thomas, the first major rugby player to come out as gay. Also, when Tao asks if anyone knows the rules of rugby, if you look closely you’ll notice that Isaac is the only one who says “Yeah,” because he is a king and knows all. - Nick and Charlie are colour coded as blue and yellow respectively. In that final beach scene, they are wearing one another’s colours. Once you notice the coding, though, it’s EVERYWHERE. The two-tone umbrella that Charlie gives Nick, under which they share the “rain kiss,” for example. - The scene of the boys talking in the park is a masterclass in camera work. While they’re laying down, the camera angle on Charlie is at a 45° tilt, symbolising how even though he’s already out, Nick has come along and tilted his world a little. The camera angle on Nick is a full 90°. Charlie came along and turned his world and identity completely on their sides. - When the boys are on the train for their Herne Bay beach date, the passenger in the seat across from them is Alice Oseman, the creator of the comic and writer of the show. - Perhaps my favourite detail, the first line of dialogue that Nick says to his mum upon returning to the house after his beach date is played over the image of him laying on the beach, smiling into the sunlight and cradling Charlie on his chest, he announces “I’m home.” Once you notice it, it is a devastatingly beautiful piece of editing. These little touches are in addition to the little rainbow lens flares throughout, an abjectly perfect score and soundtrack, and the rare treat of seeing so much healthy communication being modelled across the board. I also love that teenage characters are being played by actual teens. You can read the comics on Tapas for free. The language is a lot more true to life for British teenagers. Lol. They toned it down for the show to make it more accessible for a slightly younger audience. There are some character and plot differences, but it is highly recommended. Alice Oseman has created a lovely little world for these characters. PS- Olivia Colman’s involvement comes courtesy of the director Euros Lyn, who directed her in a few episodes of “Broadchurch” with David Tennant. He sent her the script and she cleared a couple of days to film her scenes. Everyone say “Thank you, Mr. Lyn!” ☺️ Thank you for sharing this reaction. It was truly lovely to watch. Be well. 🙏

After school (I went to an all boys grammar school very similar to Truham) we’d end up in a seedy pool hall instead. Much less aesthetic, but much less strict on underage drinking laws too. On the rugby thing: rugby football has far lower rates of injury than American football. This is because instead of adding padding they made the sport safer by becoming militant on where, when, and how you can tackle. The rules are updated internationally every year based on what they learn. The lack of padding also means players are instinctively more restrained because they themselves feel less safe about hitting hard. If you’re actually interested in the rules, I can provide a potted summary for Rugby Union (the version of rugby they’re playing in Heartstopper). I’m also happy to explain any UK school structure questions you might have, cos even in the UK there aren’t many schools like Truham or Higgs so it can be a bit confusing.

Boys and locker room talk is why I always scurried to get changed in the toilet cubicles. Also body image issues but mainly the talking

Isaac is reading Gareth Thomas' biography during the rugby game. He's a very famous Welsh international rugby player who came out few years ago. One of (if not the only?) rugby player of that stature to do so.😄

I got so happy when I saw you watched this, I think its an amazing show for anyone who has ever felt the way either Nick or Charlie has felt. I think that if I'd had this show before I came out it wouldve really helped and I hope it'll help people now. This show has managed to make me cry almost every episode :)

i'm 39, have watched this series twice, and can confirm it is exactly like high school in the UK. and now i want to watch it again. the feels! sports day is pure hell and yes, we all have to do something in it. large bowling alleys have arcades, some kind of diner, and usually a pub bit too. and i think the audience is a bit young for all the swearing, so that's the only bit that isn't realistic. my 12 year old daughter also binged it and thinks it's incredible, so it isn't just my old arse that loves it :) i can't wait for the next two seasons.

PS. also really loved that they used age-appropriate actors as well. none of them are 24.

Yours is the first reaction I've seen where someone actually reacted to the "mud on your face" with We Will Rock You 😂 (which is by Queen, a British band, btw 😉)

OMG I JUST NOTICED SOMETHING! in the very last episode where Charlie was telling Ben about how he can make him feel bad bc he hates himself, when he says that Ben literally starts crying. Idk how I didn’t see this the first time.

Heartstopper is so amazing! I binge-watched it a while ago and was basically smiling 90% of the time (there are some rough parts, like you said, but everything else is so fluffy and perfect and amazing 🥰). You should watch Our Flag Means Death, it's quite different but just as awesome!

ahh our flag means death is on the list!! not sure how soon, but i'm going to watch it eventually 🥺

Watched this with my husband the other night (first time for him ***** time for me). We are both artists and shared a laugh at the "I can barely draw stick figures." Anyone with a hint at drawing talent has heard some variation of this sentiment countless times since childhood. This was an Easter egg to fellow artists. 😂

I beg of you - especially if you liked Tori - please read Solitaire as well as the graphic novels!!! it is so so good, a really awesome mystery solving plot line, plus it was Alice's writing debut (written when she was in her last year of high school, published when they were 19, I believe it was!) and if it wasn't for this book, we wouldn't have Heartstopper 🥰 (oh and the Novellas, but make sure you finish the HS books first)

"I'm really hoping that this will be a fluffy sweet fun time" Idk why but knowing the fact that that is literally the description of Heartstopper(well, except ep 7) makes me so excited to watch this video 3:59 IDK WHY BUT HER REACTION RANDOMLY MADE ME SQUEALLL, I'm so glad someone actually realises this detail 😭 I love her reaction videos so much istg 25:27 this line makes me really sad considering it was different for Kit Connor :( They really missed the whole point of the show 35:39 YOU ARE OFFICIALLY MY FAVOURITE REACTOR, THE JOHNLOCK REFERENCE AHHHH I'M GONNA DIE

Late to the Heartstopper train. And my comment is unrelated to the show but something you said. Where I live, there is a movie theater (with upstairs seating and a bar), arcade, bowling alley, restaurant combo. So yes, they exist 😂

34:19 YES! Its set in Herne Bay! :) The place actually exists! Also P.S we do wear those badges (with the age on it) when we're kids haha and all bullies here are exactly like Harry😫 Love from Ye Olde England 🇬🇧🇬🇧 (EDIT: I also assume you've heard that Kit Conner - Nick - was forced to come out. It's really bloody sad because the ENTIRE point of the show was to say its ok to not come out to some people or even not come out at all)

I was so chuffed when I realised it was Herne Bay. I love it. Especially glad to see that they finally turned the pier into something more than that awful Cow Shed. Lol. Made me want to go back.
