It is not wise to underestimate the champion that has fallen and is training to become a champion again. Yes, they did fall due to focusing on financials in the past, but they are hungry now. They have the most aggressive plans of all the fab companies. This is risky but if it pays off, they will be right at the top alongside TSMC.
Pat was hired and paid 100M+ to fix the Intel issues. He knew it. Hecan’t blame on his predecessor except himself. I work in the states as a (Analog) Fab engineer. The states could not compete with Taiwan or Korean. It is because of quality of the education and the (laidback/lazy) culture of the states. There is not enough hard working talents in the states. It is going to fail no matter who is the next CEO.
Today half of the Intel engineers are from India just like their former chief engineering officer Murthy Renduchintala. Even Murthy is Ousted but the culture presented by him, i.e. nepotism, cheating, and lying remains the prevailing culture at Intel. Even Pat wants to turn the company around, but as this video has revealed that the root cause of failures is deep rooted before Pat becomes CEO. Pat recently hired Naga Chandra from Micron as EVP of Foundry manufacturing & supply chain. This is another guy who can talk well but can't deliver. Pat should have hired someone who knows foundry from Samsung or TSMC.
