The response of the person I was talking to about this was to say that I was trying to be white and impress the rich Republicans I grew up with lol. Obviously there's the absurdity of me wanting to be white based off of someone else's own words but also I grew up in an all black neighborhood and went to virtually all black schools. It's funny how off the mark people can be. I stayed on the show to retribution for Naofumi and was not disappointed. The deeper you get into the show the more about the world is revealed and that's what drew me in.

The anime glossed over a couple of stuff, such as the background of the different heroes. They established each of the heroes were from a different time line, a different version of Japan. However the differences go beyond who is on their money or who their celebrities are. Some are more advance then others. While aside from Naofumi each of them has played a video game that seems to have been modeled after this world, only with a couple of differences such as locations being named the same and they have a few extra abilities and such. Still the map looks the same. However the versions of the game that each hero played with not only had different names, but they were different types of games. Motoyasu played a PC MMO. Ren played a full dive MMO like in Sword Art Online. Itsuki played a console game so everyone he interacted with were NPCs. Naofumi didn't have a version of this world, but he is a gamer. Also the three of them all died and found it weird that Naofumi hadn't. Ren was stabbed while saving a friend, Moyotasu was stabbed by a pair of girls he was two timing, and Itsuki just didn't look both ways before crossing the street. Then they woke up in the room with Naofumi.

@@theperson8539 A lot of this has to do with cut content, little details the anime skips over for time. He is the type of person to be a merchant in an MMO and was actually the guild master of a rather successful guild, able to handle the logistics quite well. The anime also cuts out him exploring the upgrade system he had from the start and figuring out the rules. However he does understand universal concepts of MMOs, but he doesn't know what rules apply when he first gets here. The four heroes have different understandings. Ren plays VR games and understood how the HUD works. He had to point that out to the other three. Unlike the other three, Itsuki isn't a MMO player, instead playing the console version where he only interacts with NPCs. When they got to the archipelago the governor explained the rules of the hunting grounds to them, which Naofumi simply called MMO etiquette. However this was a foreign concept to Itsuki who kept kill stealing and Naofumi spent a fair bit of time trying to explain why he shouldn't do that. Naofumi also seems to be the only one of them who understand the role of a tank. Ren is a solo player while Itsuki just has a party of NPCs. Not sure what Motoyasu's excuse is. Seems like shielders weren't properly balanced in his game. The reason why the other three pick up on the rules of this world faster, mostly, is because they had played games based on this world already. However they have gone to far in the other direction and believe it isn't any different. They believe they have plot armor and the story won't let them die, something that confused the Queen but just frustrated Naofumi. They will also fight over the differences between their three games, not believing something was in the other game if it wasn't in their version. This makes it hard for them to adapt to differences. The trio act smug because they are experienced in a similar world, which gives them a head start, but after a certain point they struggle with the differences. Naofumi takes the time to learn how this world works and doesn't assume something is there because it was in the game. The anime cuts a lot of the negative traits of the heroes, even Naofumi's.

Naofumi (Shield Hero) is from our world, the other 3 are from alt versions. Naofumi is a mild-otaku who isn't as severely shut in as most of these kinds of LN characters. Plus with these kind of isekai's the MC is usually someone who expects certain tropes to play out once they get to the fantasy world, so Myne being all cute and clingy was what he expected. After his betrayal he'll find out how real the new world is.

The thing about how he got played was that he did exactly what he was supposed to do. As the party leader he was SUPPOSED to build up his party members. Imagine playing Final Fantasy but only ever buying supplies for the main character. It doesn't really work. He wasn't simping. He was being taken advantage of. Sometimes you can do everything right and still lose.

Here they show the trio of guys who asked to join him only to try robbing him. They weren't the first; but many demi-humans asked because they really wanted to help their Hero but of course he rejected them after having bad experiences (with humans). But these demi-humans accepted his rejection because he is their Hero. But some still followed him from the shadows, and those humans who tried scamming him ended up being killed by them after Naofumi left the area. So while in cities and towns he kinda had his secret service.
