She's a beauty. Especially inside. That's an impressive smart layout. But if I'm going exploring, my dream build would be the Bering 145 with 10 guests and 11 crew. Although, I would convert the extra 'massage' room into a staff room with a Pullman and circumvent the passenger rules. Have a nurse and a teacher aboard for my kids. Going to far places you want to take people with so might also opt for a 6th cabin for 12 guests. Then you have your Captain, First officer, Chief Engineer, bosun w/engineer rating, chef, crew chef, chief stewardess, second stewardess/massage training, (deckhand/powerboat lvl 2 or deckhand/scuba diving certification), electronics engineer, third stewardess. Then depending on where we go, take the jet skis off and add 2,000 gallon fuel bladders. Sure that would work. Dorothea III did it.

Where will the five-piece jazz band sleep?

@@Boris_Chang I would have a banging sound system. If you think about it, if you are doing serious passage making to remote parts of the world, this is what you want. Probably could get rid of a few crew but by law you need that many for certain passages. So it may sound like a lot, but that's the law.

Beautiful trawler yacht. She really does glide through the water.

What I like is the roomy bow deck. There's just enough room to mount a 5" MKII cannon to keep those pesky sailing yachts out of the way. I'm not sure where I'd put the depth charge racks though.

Draw me a couple of pints and let's go. Beautiful yacht! Kind of the way I pictured Peter Lewis and his son when they cruised on lone ranger. As I mentioned once before, when she left Miami after her refit I ran into her with the captain and crew in Martinique.

Aluminum isn't as strong as steel so did they make the hull thicker?
@kfeltenberger2 жыл бұрын
When I heard who designed it, I almost wrote it off because the interiors I've seen them do have left me, well...not impressed to be polite. This was a change; this has an interior that is warm, that begs to be "lived in", and is comfortable. The only drawback is the aluminum hull; for me, that would keep it to ice free waters.

@cavalryscout39522 жыл бұрын
Also, Aluminum reacts badly with sea water. Every little scratch is going to let corrosion start on the hull. I love it's looks and stats but I'm skeptical of aluminum hulls. Am I wrong? elucidate please.

I noted She was flying a Portuguese Flag, but what Class? Hopefully not RINA. The Alu hull is disappointing for an Expedition vessel. 43x 8.5x2.5 and 430gt, yet a large unused volume for'rd, suggests Class have been liberal with the calculator in determining gt. The 2x750 hp Cummins and 15 kn max is well matched to her max hull speed, but I think the 80KW onan gennies are a little light for a full guest load in hot climates. Hope the water-making facilities are good because the 2.5m draught limits tankage. The bridge looked really nice, but there should be 2 chairs, one for the OOW and one for the lookout who gets to sit in front of one radar (with his/her binos), whilst the OOW sits in front of the other radar. You dont need a seat in front of the helm. The Captain never sits down and steers from there, he's always on his feet at that point. Finally 8 crew is 2 short. In far away places there is no engineering support, so you will need 2 Engrs. Capt, Mate + 2, Ch Stwds +2, Chef = 10. At night there MUST be 2 on the bridge when underway.

I guess in my mind , I can't see her as an expedition yacht ? , Arctic and Antarctic are off the table given the aluminium hull ,bro would you agree ?
@YachtBuoy Жыл бұрын
Nah, you can still travel to those places with an aluminium hull. Most explorers (built in aluminium) have a hull that is about 6mm thick on the bow. You just have to keep clear of the big stuff 🧊

I hate it when the twits say a boat has trans-oceanic range as it has crossed the Atlantic twice but who cares about of a life spent only in the Med and/or Caribbean when there is whole world to explore including the very much bigger Pacific Ocean with its far flung islands that are a must see! So many boats only have the range for day trips or for sitting at anchor a few miles from home port, or the galley and food storage for a week at sea. My other gripe is the crew accommodation is generally cramped and inhumane, more appropriate for a WW1 submarine than a world exploring superyacht at sea for months. I also don't like the beach club trend, yes have ready access to sea level at the stern but that should be for watersports like diving and fishing plus for forays to remote beaches or villages when you want to get to dry land. I don't doubt the medicinal properties of a good Guinness when there is ice on the horizon but why have bars on every deck or an owner's suite that takes up nearly an entire deck. Who wants to stay in a bedroom all day?

Aluminium is not polyester. Thick aluminium as strongal is widely used for sailboats in Antarctica for example. The thick, high-strength aluminum is almost as heavy as steel and the shell costs twice as much as steel. That's why it's little used but it's very solid.
