This video will work well for someone who has a relatively advanced level of experience with general ham radio operations and terminologies. As a newbie, I was a bit lost in the terminologies used to describe the functions. (Like... what is a DTMF so I looked it up) For me, the value in this video is in watching the navigation through the control screens, knobs and buttons and that was worth the watch. Thanks

Minor correction: the mute feature which you disabled does not mute the B-band all the time. You will in fact still be available on both frequencies at the same time. The setting only determines what happens when both bands transmit at the same time. Then you get to decide if you want to ignore the transmission of the B-band in favor of the A-band or if you want to mix them together. Personally I don’t think it makes a ton of sense to have it on anything but “mute 100%”, because I can still see on the screen if there is activity on the other band and I can’t listen to two people talk at the same time 😅
@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Жыл бұрын
Hi the reason you have two at the same time is because quite often only one has activity then you select the one you like .

I have a request of you but first, let me thank you in a big way for your excellent videos on using the features of this radio. Love that you've got several "targeted" videos showing how to use a specific feature or function. Been saving them to a play list for reviewing and reference. So much easier than the manual. Here's a request: When you're selecting a particular setting or a function from a menu with more than one choice, please explain all the choices there, if you know what they are. Sometimes you leave this out so I wonder when and why I would make a different selection. If you're not sure, saying that is helpful because if an advanced user such as yourself hasn't needed it, odds are I won't either and it's not something I need to look up now or, maybe, ever. Again, loved this vid - and all your vids on this radio - especially the targeted ones. You're videos have got me much further in just a few days of using one of these than I ever woulda been just reading the manual. The manual is good for telling me how, it does nothing to tell me why or under what circumstances I would make various configs or selections. 73!

Is the FT5D FM Narrowband capable as the FTM-400 is? I know the Icom ID-52 is narrowband capable, but I haven't found any indication that the FT5D can transmit an FM narrowband signal. There is at least one FM Narrowband Ham repeater in my area. Also it would be nice to set it to narrowband receive for monitoring public service frequencies without degrading the signal.

Do you have a video on how to program and use the DTMF codes on a hotspot?
@HamTechRadioScannerDrones2 жыл бұрын
Hi I have never used that way as selecting a refelector using DR mode is alot easier also because a hotspot had so many modes you would have endless dtmf numbers .
I just bought a new ft5d and I cant believe the frecuency is hidden while scanning, its a very very bad idea and it is unacceptable. This feature converts the Ft5d the worst HT I’ve ever had in my life. I will sell it righ now and never buy again this model in my life. i can expect this from a chinesse baofeng HT, not with YAESU I CANT BELIEVE THAT I CANT SEE THE FRECUENTY WHILE SCANNING LU6CMV - MARIANO FROM ARGENTINA

@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones I am trying program a local repeater onto the FT-5 but I haven’t been able to connect to it. You were far too fast (ans assumes a listener/watcher was very familiar with many terms in the radio) for someone who has just bought the FT%DR. Even if I repl ayed it many times I doubt if much would have stuck in my memory.
