Field Trips with Robert Field

Күн бұрын

In this episode I'm doing some urban bank fishing for exotic fish with Hai Truong and Fred York right in the heart of Miami. We're chasing crazy looking fish like midas cichlids, oscar cichlids, mayan cichlids, peacock bass, huge carp, largemouth bass and more right in people's backyards. IT IS SO MUCH FUN!
Book a trip with Hai and catch some monster exotics of your own! www.haitruongfishing.com/

I don’t kill animals I’m not gonna eat, and I definitely wasn’t gonna eat anything out of those canals. Those fish are there to stay, killing 3 of them won’t change anything. Blame the people dumping their fish tanks in there. ✌🏼

Robert Field not so much anymore lately the water has been dirty and the fish haven’t been hitting artificial as much so I’ve had to move to inshore. The canals are becoming overfished because of the rapid popularity of peacock bass fishing

I've always wondered how these fish that aren't native to Fl. became common in that area. Did a pet shop owner toss a bunch of exotics into the streams, rivers and lakes or what? Iguanas, pythons, cichlid...Great video. I love nonstop fish catching!

Irresponsible pet owners don’t do their research and then release them into the ecosystem when they outgrow the tiny tanks people try to keep them in. The peacock bass were introduced by FWC to control other populations.
@YakFishField

Individual aquarium owners. They get sick of their tanks, don't want to "murder" the fish, so they toss them in the canals behind their house.

That’s how they got into the canals! People released them from their aquariums.

Great video! Considering they aren't indigenous fish why would you throw them back in?
@YakFishField
@YakFishField 6 жыл бұрын
Because there's no evidence that they're harming the ecosystem, and I don't kill fish just to let them rot. Peacock bass were introduced by the Florida Wildlife Commission, so I don't think they encourage us to kill them for no reason.

Thanks for the reply Robert. I wasn't sure whether they'd be seen as a pest or endangering to local fish. Just thought cichlids and Peacock Bass were very aggressive fish. Thanks for your time and keep up the awesome videos.

That’s called an Oscar cichlid. Those are tank fish, sad to see them just thrown out in the wild. People use to throw them in our local lakes when they realize how dumb they are and can’t take care of the oscars

Yeah, it’s sad that so many are releasing invasive species in those canal systems

FYI. It is illegal to release an invasive fish into the wild in Florida. If you catch it, it is illegal to release it. You are supposed to keep it, make it bait, or dispose of it in some other manner.

I mean anything is edible, but they don’t taste good and I wouldn’t eat any fish out of those canals.
