Explanations: • He's a wonderful man (0:45) - Alexander Griboyedov is a writer, pianist and diplomat whose work is studied by children in schools. He died during a revolt of religious fanatics in Persia (Iran). • Anya Politkovskaya (3:36) - was a Russian journalist and human rights activist, who reported on political and social events in Russia, in particular, the Second Chechen War (1999-2005). She was murdered in 2006, it is still unclear who ordered or paid for the contract killing. • Cemetery (6:08) - referring to Kremlin Wall Necropolis. By the way, four Americans have received the honor to be buried there. • Goida (6:52) - an old Russian exclamation, a call to immediate action. Used (unironically) by pro-war people. • 101st kilometer (7:02) - during the years of political repressions, family members of the repressed were sent to the 101st kilometer and beyond • South Butovo (7:32) - bedroom community in Moscow, has a low rating.

I am 74 years old, of Polish ancestry, and retired from the US Army. One of my majors in my undergraduate degree was European history with emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe. When I was young I was accused of being a reality merchant, one who sees and dares to speak the truth. Yakov, IS a reality merchant. He and I could sit and have a beer and a vodka and discuss reality and be brothers! God bless you, Yakov!

What age where you able to retire from the US Army? Did you attend college before or after your years of service? US military retirement confuses me to this day. I believe that a veteran should not have to pay federal income tax for the rest of their lives. I have heard rumors of retiring at age 45 within military service. Also, other rumors that retiring at 45 doesn't pay the bills.

@shanevmax34 many join at 18 and can retire at 38. This is a very early retirement compared to other professions and most of the time they choose to start their own business or take management positions. They receive half their final base pay for life if they retire under honorable positions and receive VA health benefits. I know many of them and they all work for a long time after their service as they enjoy what they do. There's not many federal tax breaks, but my state doesn't tax military retirement benefits for what that's worth.

Anna Stepanovna Politkovskaya (née Mazepa;[a] 30 August 1958 - 7 October 2006) was a Russian journalist and human rights activist, who reported on political and social events in Russia, in particular, the Second Chechen War (1999-2005).[2] It was her reporting from Chechnya that made Politkovskaya's national and international reputation.[3] For seven years, she refused to give up reporting on the war despite numerous acts of intimidation and violence. Politkovskaya was arrested by Russian military forces in Chechnya and subjected to a mock execution. She was poisoned while flying from Moscow via Rostov-on-Don to help resolve the 2004 Beslan school hostage crisis, and had to turn back, requiring careful medical treatment in Moscow to restore her health.

Well he's not, i mean he talks faster than most english speakers, but when i'm in company of friends i speak at the same speed with my croatian friends, it differa from region to region how fast people speak on average, i mean for here, but the same in germany, some germans talk really fast, it's hard to understand then, italians too, but again differs by the region, and city folks talk faster usually. What i did notice is that english speakers talk really slow on awerage, i thought when i learnt english in school that it's that way for us to understand easier like we had for german lgge earlier in practices, solwly and clearly pronounced tapes, but nope, it was the standard english speech. Also, from people i've heard, hungarians, spainards, all arabic countries, czech and so on, all of them talk pretty fast on average, from my experience, the slowest speakers after english obes are the french, but it may be that i was in such a region, though people from the coast here talk fast in most cases. Another thing i noticed for english speakers is that they also read very slow, that i noticed with social media and occurance of subtitles, they always have problems with that, not enough time, and it's usually native speakers not people who havw it as second or third lgge like me, it's really weird, maybe because all our shows are titled, so we were used to it since childhood, anyways for me it's ten times better than synchronising like in germany, if it's a fremch film, or english one, or czech, whatever it's important to hear the oroginal lgge, helps a lot with the proper mood anf character of the film, especially french and italian films, couldn't imagine them in english or croatian, but if i grew up with synching i'd probably be more used to it, but what i observed from german and russian examples for some films i've seen, more part of their tv program on the interwebs - it's an abomination, especially the russian one where all characters were synched with the same monotonous voice, shivers till this day haha!

Smart people can come off as scatterbrained or conceited sometimes even silly. Ndt if you listen to him talk to someone he doesn't really seem to let the other person talk. His brain is constantly going and 5 steps ahead of whoever he's talking to lol. Also smart people usually know that they are smarter than you, not they think they are better but just that they genuinely want to help you understand and they know that whatever they have to say is gonna be more valuable than your knowledge.
