The thing about Ichiban is that he's a 1000% genuine dude. He doesn't need "good vocals" to sell the song because you know how closely he follows it. Ichiban and this song has grown on me.

@@leobardoestrada848 started playing yakuza, like a dragon recently as my first entry into the series and i'm gonna be honest, just looking at trailers and all i wasn't sure about ichiban. like i only knew him as this dude with the bat and the crazy hairstyle, but damn has he grown on me. - currently on chapter 5 and he's like the one person i would without question swear my life too. his passion and positive outlook really are inspiring, but what truly makes him great in my eyes is that he isn't just this perfect protagonist without any flaws. at points he does mess up, like when he tried to rile up all the homeless guys early on without taking into consideration that some of them are just to broken at this point. however when made aware of this reality by nanba he accepted his own failure to consider others feelings, yet he still kept to his own creed of moving forward without any hesitation.

Considering how most of the yakuza characters are 99% stoic badass dudes who mostly sing love songs and occasionally sadder songs honestly makes this better Ichi genuily just sings about him wanting to die unlike the other characters sidestepping saying it and just being sad or something Makes him a bigger breath of fresh air then he was originally

I love the juxtaposition of Kiryu and Ichiban. We all know Kiryu would have nailed the song both dubs no matter what it’s his thing to be nearly perfect in everything. But Ichi is putting his heart and soul into this little song even if it sounds like ass and no one really cares but him it’s what he believes in and he sure as hell will do his own version of justice to the song
@Omnishredder

It's real justice as it's a song but meant to sound flashy or hyped up, it's meant to be felt in the heart and soul not the ears, anyone can sing, but this, this is motivating words of wisdom... I guess it's why I jumped in to Yakuza 7 first, I knew it'll speak better to my life than slogging through the entire Yakuza series first will, and in turn motivate me to finish first, then come back to New game plus (unless I decide to do new game plus as well)

I agree this song doesn't sound great in English, but I would also argue that that's the point. The stereotype that America attaches to karaoke is that you either do while so you don't care if you sound terrible, or you're sober and already don't care and just want to have fun and sing some songs you like. I think either way this English version encompasses that.

I'm certain that the way english words are stressed made this sound a little less than perfect. If some of the prepositions such as "that" were removed and the note extended, I'm sure this would sound much better!

To me it feels genuine. Karaoke has always been a joke in the media where people who can't sing do a song way out of their league. Ichiban can't sing, but he's got the passion and as long as he's having fun then who cares.

I've actually been wanting to sing this song since I first heard the Japanese version, so maybe now I could attempt to sing it with the official English lyrics sometime.

I wish there was an option to turn on the English dub only for Ichi and keep the rest in Japanese.

It's silly, cringey and sounds like it's sung by a Disney MC, and it's my favourite song in the game and i love it
