Successfully replaced the LCD screen on my Yamaha YPG-625! Ordered the screen through Brighton Sound in Rochester, NY. (www.brightonsoundusa.com ) for about $150. The model I received from Yamaha is WU967500. It the exact same screen with a little modification; hopefully bc Yamaha realized the other design was pretty faulty... BARE WITH THE VIDEO, didnt realize the audio & video dont line up well. A liittle aggrevating, shot it on my HTC EVO 4G, which is an awesome phone, but dont know why this video turned out the way it did. Sorry.

I took the whole thing apart and was about to give up after watching multiple KZbin videos. Apparently all I needed to do was adjust the contrast. Had no clue it was there. Thanks for the help!

Mine ended up being the contrast control which you first pointed out, so I got lucky this time. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your information. It was EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!!!!! You solved my problem and I'm VERY GRATEFUL!!. It's all working fine now.

I'm glad that you mentioned that the ribbon cable was flipped upside down. I'm experiencing a similar issue with a Casio wk1800 which a friend has loaned to me. The screen is illuminated but there is no data. The wk 1800 is probably very similar to the ypg 235/ dgx 230 in terms of features and construction. So, I'm cautiously optimistic that this could be the solution. Thank you.

This is a great video for this repair! I ordered from Brighton just like you said, they were very helpful. The display cost about $140. and was not hard at all to install, just a hell of a lot of screws! Display looks perfect now. Thanks!!

Thank you SO much for posting this video. I've been using my keyboard without a screen for almost 3 years and figured it was time to search youtube. I managed to fiddle with one of the ribbons on the screen itself (using a magnetic screwdriver...if that matters) until the screen came back to life. It was really weird because for the longest time, any pressure on one of the bottom ribbons of the screen would make the screen freak out and flicker. Running the magnetic screwdriver across the soldering points for the ribbon seemed to glitch it back. I really don't know... This video helped me know my way around the insides of the keyboard (at least the applicable stuff) so that I didn't break anything else. Also it was extremely helpful to know that removing the ribbon cables wouldn't hurt anything. I'm confident that if the screen bugs out again that it will be easy to replace it (I ended up having to re-solder the power to the LCD screen anyway as one of them came loose while I was messing with it. Super easy soldering.

Thanks for the video. I ordered the replacement screen from Brighton and replaced it following your tutorial. I had one issue, be careful reassembling the keyboard. After I replaced the screen, I used a couple of screws to hold the bottom cover and powered it up to test the screen. The screen worked fine. I proceeded to put all the screws back in the bottom cover, put the keyboard back on the stand, powered it up and found to my dismay that one of the white keys was stuck. One of those metal rods had shifted out of place during reassembly, causing the key to stick. I had to remove all the screws again and realign the metal rod, put all the screws back in...now it works well.

Thanks for the information, this was great. My contrast knob needed turned. I also got mine used and the adapter was wrong it was a AC output and it needed a "12v DC output" . It sounded like it wanted to blow up, I know I got real lucky to unplug the AC adapter.

Thanks for much for taking the time and effort to share with the rest of us ... I was resigned that mine (YGX-520 Portable Grand) was likely a victim of age. Haven't attempted the fix yet but feel emboldened to give a try with your excellent explanations. Cheers, Louis : ) Ottawa, ON, Canada

Thanks SO much for the help. I worked on it on yesterday and the blue screen/white screen began working again WITHOUT having to replace the screen display. Here is what I did the same: I removed all the screws, I removed the main circuit board; however, I stopped short of removing the display screen. Here is what I did differently: I took a pencil with an eraser and I scrubbed the silver part of the display screen's network cable in order to get a good connection. I used tissue to ensure all eraser particles were removed from the display screen's network cable. I flattened out the double crimp from the cable to make a smooth curve in the network cable. I placed the main circuit board back on top and plugged in all 6 network cables again. Last but not least but MOST IMPORTANTLY, I lifted the keyboard on its side so I could see the display screen. Next, I put POWER to the keyboard and noticed the screen was still solidly blue. I then UNPLUGGED THE DISPLAY SCREEN'S NETWORK CABLE and then PLUGGED IT BACK IN. When I plugged the "uncrimped, cleaned" network cable back in, POWER caused the screen to "RESET ITSELF" and the original banner began the start up again as it did when I first bought the keyboard years ago....! I then unplugged the power again, put the top back on the keyboard, put all the screws back in, mounted the keyboard back on the stand. I am playing the keyboard again with a fresh and new looking display again! I am VERY happy and thankful for all of the steps ya'll helped me with. What I did was a "mixture of all the things I read from different people who tried to help." I felt the need to post this detailed write-up to possibly encourage someone else to try it BEFORE buying the new display screen.

Thank you so much for uploading this!!! I have this keyboard, and the screen recently went dead. From what I've read on a few different sites, this seems to be a rather common problem with these keyboards, which is a shame. :( Anyway, this video gives me a pretty good handle on what to do if I opt to replace the screen. Very helpful! Thanks again!

You recorded in good quality, (720p) but your focus was slightly blurred. I think along with other videos I should be able to figure it out. I'm going to try a fix with applying pressure to the connections with clips to see if that works first. Thanks for your well done narrative 👏

You can absolutely do it... at the very least you can do all of the disassemble and reassemble and just have someone do the soldering for you. If you know anyone that is an electrician preferably or just a real handyman, they will have the pen soldering tool and can just solder 2 little wires onto the screen tabs for you, so when you go to reassemble, you are just twisting wires together! Hope that helps!

To hell with the amount of screws......! I have the same issue but I love the sound of the keyboard and am in the process of doing a easy fix but omg!!! The amount of screws they put in there for no other reason than to dissuade owners from doing their own repairs. Thanks for posting tho'.

Ok, the very simple question that I have not been able to get an answer to: WHAT IS THE PART NUMBER OF THE ORIGINAL MFR OF THAT LCD SCREEN? I know you said WU967500, but I suspect that is the re-numbered P/N that yamaha puts on the lcd part. I have heard that the original mfr of the that part is Powertip, and possibly that the part is called 320X240. Is there any way someone can clue me in to the actual mfr of the lcd, and the actual original part #?

There should have been a class action lawsuit against Yamaha for this! The part was obviously defective from the beginning to be happening in so many of these keyboards. I definitely won't be buying another Yamaha product. Its a shame because I love the board. :(
