Yamaha DSP-A1 changing battery (super cap) - soldering needed

I had trouble finding the battery, so showing it here and how I swapped it out. Its not a bad job once you've done it once.
The battery is infact a 5.5V .47F supercapacitor.
My amp is around 25 years old. I also needed to re-solder the back of the LED (actually a vacuum tube) display as those joints had heat stress cracked, presumably from the screen heating up and cooling down.
I cant do anything but keep repairing it when I compare its value to the new offerings - and what the A1's go for on 2nd hand markets. Lets keep them going! If you have an fixes, stick your videos on KZbin to help other people too!

Nice tip on how to get the board out without completely disassembling the front again, thank you 🙂 Any idea how to fix the surround channels not sounding until you turn the volume up a fair bit? I use the white noise test and once they're working they stay working until you turn it off and leave it a few days. Not the end of the world but a bit of a faff...

Hi sounds like a dry joint. I found a maintenance manual that listed all the boards. Download that and find the one IIRC which does the surround proessing. I'd then disconnect everything and take it out (reasonable possibility its the wires conections). While out inspect the solder joints (less likely the problem now thinking about it). Sounds like something is open circuit till the voltage raises and forces it closed (high volume) and after that its OK till you turn off and have zero voltage again for a while. used to happen with tin plated ram dimms in gold contactor motherboard strips good luck! report back

I have the Yamaha DSP-A1 I purchased at RAF Mildenhall back in 1998, I took it out of the closet a couple months ago and it still has the same problem of the display going on and off sometimes. Is there a way to get that display board out without disassembling all the amplifier just to solder those connectors?
