Thank you for the detailed information on what to measure where and what the dimensions of the parts are. 👍👍

I must admit if I ever stripped this engine I would not be able to resist having some performance parts popped in as its a once in a life time engine strip/ Cams pistons and gass flowed head. Great job. I used to race one I bought it brand new and put it on the race track after running it in on the road. Great bikes

I totally agree. They are very reliable. I rode it today, and I felt I was in the '90s!!! It's definitely a great idea to put a performance package in it, but I was kind of limited financially. Thank you for your comment 🙏

In my experience and I’ve built several engines u learn to get s feel with the Tele gauges and micrometers the telegauges in particular take some time the way to test that is to do several measurements and compare from the same place in the bore for eg u just learn to centre the gauge correctly by “wobble method” as sometimes the gauge will not easily self centre my preferred tools for measuring bores is Dial bore gauge which money wise r far more accessible than they used to be and they tend to self centre better I am building a Yamaha fz911 engine using fzr1000 ( gen one ) pistons and barrels and head on a fz 750 bottom end with the six speed gearbox I am interested to c if u measure the main brg bores ( no shells fitted) and c if u find any ovality or taper there I did and am very disappointed by this as I feel this should b highly accurate if u find this problem I’m interested to c how u remediate this as I haven’t been able to get any experts opinions keep up the good work Oh I have seen a u tube video where a guy builds up the worn valve faces on his genesis 1000 ( first gen) with stellite via tig welding this may be an effective and cost effective answer for u

I think you're talking about the German guy. Yes, he did an amazing job! I envy guys like him. Unfortunately I didn't measure the main bearings at all. Now that you mentioned it, maybe I should. But I thought since there was not significant wear on the bearings, there was no reason to. Also there was no data on the service manual. Again, maybe I should. Never thought about the ovality. Thanks for your comments and your advices. I appreciate them!

Hi Chris, where are you sourcing your valves from? and have you bought a full gasket set yet? if so whose did you use?
@ChrisSofos
@ChrisSofos 2 жыл бұрын
For this engine I bought everything original Yamaha from Megazip.net O-rings, gaskets, valves etc. Occasionally I buy some parts also from eBay or cmsnl.com

@@ChrisSofos I bought a full gasket set from Athena, it came with every o ring, oil seal, valve seals the lot, good quality as they are OEM suppliers to many manufacturers. I also use cmsnl, i just had a package arrive from them this week with alot of hard to find bits like fairing infills and fresh air ducts that my bike was missing. They are very good, if a bit pricey.

@@uhtred7860 I've heard of Athena many times and I've seen ads of them here and there. They sound like a serious company as you say. I always have their products in mind! Thanks for the feedback! Of course, when it comes to OEM parts...they are always pricey! Especially with every bike that I have. Most of their parts are discontinued.

Hey Chris! This video is helpful to me, doing the same procedure on my Thunderace. Can you recommend a model micrometer and caliper for this job, looking for good quality that I can use many years!

Another question I came up with is what manual are you following? Impressed by your informed method of working! Love it!
@ChrisSofos

Thanks for your comment! Looking in the market for a manual, I couldn't find anything else but Haynes. As for the micrometre and vernier calliper, if you find Mitutoyo, buy it straight away! I'd prefer the digital over the analogue, as it's much easier to read!

Awesome thanks! And the Haynes guided you through the entire engine build? @@ChrisSofos

@@jaesaren somewhat yes! But it's not very detailed. I have done that kind of work in the past, so I knew what I was doing. I just advised the manual for specs.

@@ChrisSofos They mustn't be doing the work, but rather watching it to pass time or dreaming of owning an FZR. I've got a 89' FZR 1000 I'm redoing this winter. I'm watching this before beginning on the drivetrain. I'm redoing the wiring harness at the moment.
