I can go ride anything and have a blast on it. Happy with my Polaris 850, neighbor has a Grizzly, he loves that. I think the Grizzly is great too. This video tries to make the Polaris AWD look like a flaw, but in reality, it is flawless. The front wheels engage within 1/5 of a rotation of spinning the back wheels. I have tried many tricky situations and it feels seemless. They are both great machines.

My Grizz so far has gone 9000 Miles. Without ANY issue at all. Just maintenance and drive. Still the FIRST belt. Dealer checked it last week and said its good for another 1500 mi...This machine is fully real world tough!!!! I do not know anybody riding other OEMs who can say the same about his.....yeah the design could maybe need a makeover....but reliability beats everything from my point of view. And the handling is great too....

There's no doubt Yamaha builds a reliable machine But shouldn't this be a comparison between the 570 and the 700 after all the 570 beats it by 3 feet on the 1/4 mile comparing it to the 850 is like comparing a 1 ton dsl truck to a Toyota Anyways I'll let you grizzly guys get back to eating your sushi I'll get back to eating prime rib

Whoever was driving the Polaris 850 clearly was paid to make it look bad I got a 570sp and it could out walk both of those machines. Grizzly is a tough machine and is very reliable. The comfort and suspension on the Polaris and especially the AWD would outperform the grizzled any day. The AWD is superior on Polaris than every other machine out there. I need an honest review
@brandoncrimmins62967 жыл бұрын
I'm going to totally pick this video apart, because I'm bored and have ridden and owned both...I LOVE Yamaha's Grizzly. It's a well built wheeler but is in fact out dated and while the 700 single does have great low end power it falls completely on it face after about 50MPH. Yes it goes faster than 50MPH but it does NOT like to do it. Anyway first of all...Grizzly Does NOT outsell the Sportsman. Maybe it outsells the top of the line Sportsmans that are between $11K-$15k these days. However unlike the Grizzly...The Sportsman is the ONLY name on Polaris Mid and Full size Utility ATV's. So given the entire spectrum of the Polaris Sportsman...It's virtually impossible for the Grizzly to "outsell" the Sportsman. Plus, I RARELY see Grizzly's on the trail...I actually see far more Kodiak's on the trail than the Grizzlys. So that tells me that people are buying Yamaha because of price , NOT actual functionality. 4 Wheel Drive Comparison: I actually DO like the Grizzly's 4 wheel drive system, however...It IS more involved to use and no where near as easy to use as the Polaris. Let alone as SMOOTH...Good luck turning at all with the diff locked...I've heard from EVERYONE (that doesn't own a Polaris) for YEARS how terrible the Polaris All Wheel Drive is...I own a few Polaris Wheelers now and all of them have the All Wheel Drive system and it quite frankly...Works FLAWLESSLY provided you're not jerking the throttle around like a woman or a teenager that just wants to see and/or hear the wheels spin. (We've all gone through this stage) And as an added bonus...I can leave the Polaris in 4x4 (AWD on older models) at full speed runs without the steering getting stiff or shaky. Or just plain unpredictable...Polaris ADC is AWESOME! Saves so much wear on the service brakes. That's all that needs to be said about Polaris Automatic Descent Control! CVT Trans Comparison: Personally I have gone through more clutches in a Yamaha than Belts in a Polaris. The Polaris is a far simpler system and YES in the new XP/SP chassis the belt is considerably harder to change. At least, I assume it is because of it's location but I've never had to change a belt in my Scrambler XP. So I don't actually know. While in the Yamaha...I have replaced a few sets of Centrifugal Clutch Shoes which are wet internal engine components and definitely HARDER to replace than even a belt on an XP/SP chassis. Weight Comparison: Yes the Polaris weighs more...It's BIG!!!GER!!! And they neglected to mention that the Polaris has a SUBSTANTIALLY LOWER Center of Gravity. AND that even though the Polaris has a massive 850cc Inline Twin that it STILL has a narrower rider station. NO...The weight does NOT hold the Polaris back. If it did it would lose the Drag Race. And while we're talking about Drag Racing Wheelers...I also have to point out that ANY OTHER manufacturer uses the DRAG RACE to show off power to weight comparisons...Not Yamaha...Why? Because the 700 Single is horrifically, pathetically outdated and under-powered in today's Big Bore segment. But it IS quite reliable. More so than Honda in my Opinion. These are the reasons that there are rumors of a Yamaha Big Bore Twin for the Grizzly in 2018-2019. Drag Race: Did not we JUST discuss this...?The Polaris wins EVERY time. Even my buddy's 570 Sportsman womps on the 700 Grizzly. In actually all ways, but it is an SP chassis. So I will acknowledge that this is a considerable advantage... Power to Weight Ratio: Again I did already touch on this but it is worth bringing up in detail since they are using it WRONG for their benefit in this video. At LOW crawling and climbing speeds... I got news for Yamaha and anyone watching this video thinking "wow Polaris sucks"...Virtually ANY 4 wheel drive wheeler with a locking diff of ANY ENGINE Size will do ALL of these things JUST fine...And since Polaris uses their All Wheel Drive system in even their 450 Sportsman. It would do these tasks just fine too. Provided the operator has the piece of mind to throw it into LOW GEAR!!! Because if your wheeler has an issue doing 2MPH it HAS...A...PROBLEM...And you should... FIX!!! IT!!! Fuel Efficiency: This is definitely OWNED by the SINGLE CYLINDER, SMALLER DISPLACEMENT Yamaha Grizzly. I think bragging that your smaller displacement, lower cylinder count engine is more fuel efficient is a bit of a bitch move...However, it is in fact better on gas. And there is no denying that. Power Steering: Yes Yamaha has won awards for their power steering but now so has Polaris, Honda, Can-AM and anyone that puts EPS in a 4 wheeler. Power steering is AWESOME in MY OPINION regardless of what machine you're using. It's just a matter of deciding whether or not power steering works for YOUR PERSONAL riding style.I have a friend that has had 3 different wheelers with power steering and he has come to the conclusion that it does not work for him. He likes to feel EVERY imperfection in the trail whereas I prefer the ease of steering and the reduced abuse to my upper body while I'm on the trail. This way I can be out longer. Brakes: I see the theory behind the independent front to rear brake controls, but in reality it's worthless. Especially since most guys only use it to do brake stands...The Polaris DOES have independent control of the rear brakes with a pedal as briefly mentioned in the video. And no one that has ever Owned a Polaris has EVER used it...Because it is, of course, pointless and a remnant of an older design. Shit...Most of my wheelers, I've taken the foot pedal off to gain more foot room...I also have to say this is obviously an old video because the last time I looked into a Grizzly. They were bragging about having a SINGLE rear brake integrated into the rear diff housing. So it's no more "brake" than the Sportsman. Also, the Sportsman has a locked rear axle so it doesn't matter that there is only one brake rotor on the rear axle. It stops or slows the entire axle...And the ones that have an option for "turf" or the models with an actual rear differential do in fact have 2 rotors and calipers in the rear. One on each wheel. So that's my dissection of the video. I don't give a damn if you like it or agree with it. I don't have time to respond to these comments as I'm an adult with a real job that I have to go to...So respond with your hate if it makes you feel better but everything I have said here is true. Whether you buy a Sportsman or a Grizzly chances are you'll like it or even love it. They are BOTH fantastic machines and are both quite reliable.

Nice man. I actually picked up an 18 Griz and let my sportsman 570 go. I wouldn't say I regret it , but would say there are features in definitely miss. Single brake being the biggest, then the storage followed by the narrower ride. I'm 6'2 and the griz is not a problem for me, but you absolutely feel the difference in width. And while.heavier, in totally agree with the lower center of gravity and the feel that you can whip it around a hairpin vs. That of the griz which feels like a tank.

I do have to disagree with the reliability of Polaris, my friend has one, and the belt slips all the time, and it’s the 600 twin. My grizzly 660 will beat it in a drag easily, and it also is having problems with its AWD system, and as for the 700 being outdated, it’s certainly not if it can keep up with the twin quads. I have also never had to replace a belt on my 05 or 02 grizzly 660. The only time I’ve heard of Yamahas having an issue was back in 2016 when they decided to partner with Subaru and make a 708cc engine, and it had oil leakage problems.

That being said they are a bit lacking since everyone has a 750cc and up model basically but the grizz still hangs pretty tight with the bigger displacement bikes. Slowly applying the throttle on a hill in high range is how you fry belts. Also I never even notice the awd engaging and disengaging because it does it so quick. There's one thing I don't understand. Why are you always talking about "burning out the belts"? I have a 2007 Sportsman 800. Has about 7200 km on it to date (about 4500 miles) and I'm driving the belt number 3 on it, allot of offroad driving, paths and so on. I guess it's very easy to burn the belt but in a normal driving (my Sportsman is road legal and I also use it allot like that) I'm not sure the belt worn is so much. But I know nothing about the 850 XP belts, nor the Yamaha belts. I think Suzuki KingQuad are the best ATV's you can get.

I loved the awd on my 2014 850 scrambler . Clutch worked great , never have i ever smoked a belt like in this video. Down hill engine braking was flawless. Rear facing belt was a breeze to change . Only complaint was the build quality on certain components ( loose suspension bushings from the factory, loose steering stem that bugged the hell out of me) great ride and loads of power though. I since had a rzr xp 1000, and now i have a grizzly 700 2019 havent used it yet because its winter here but overall the fit and finish on the grizzly seems to be alot better. Seems like the guys at yamaha really took the time to make everything right.

I would take the Yamaha all day. In a "drag" race the video says the 850 might win by a little? In a drag race the 850 would destroy the 700. That's not why I would purchase the ATV. I want a QUALITY ATV that stays out of the shop. At 48 horses the 700 is enough for most, and if you're in the woods, or tight trails the 700 would kick ass. It's lighter and easier to ride. Polaris machines are fast, no doubt. But overall they are junk.

@gregrowe116810 жыл бұрын
These videos always make the other manufacturer look bad. Search for a few sceonds and you'll find a polaris video that makes it look better. But the fact is the Polaris is way heavier and the Grizzly gets better fuel economy, even more so with the 2014 and newer models, which also got a bit of a power boost. I think it is a little silly that the polaris 4x4 kicks in and out whenever it wants. If the button is pushed, it should be in 4x4 until you push the button again to disengage it. The Grizzly is lighter partly because it has aluminum and plastic parts where the Sportsman has steel like the floorboards for instance. The 850 twin engine is heavier than the 700 single and the counterweights for the cvt transmission are heavier on the Polaris as well. Its longer, wider and taller. For some larger riders, this might actually be better as its more comfortable. I'd rather have a lighter, more nimble machine that is a bit more sporty too. Polaris, as is shown in the video, has a slow engaging cvt that makes the machine slower on the bottom end than the quick engaging cvt the Grizzly has. Yes if you raced say 1/2 mile the Polaris would win as its top speed is around 80 mph as opposed to about 65 for the Grizzly. But 0-30 mph, the Grizzly will beat it and that's where you need more acceleration for the trail.

You sound like a kid so I will keep it clean. Why do you think Polaris outsells Yamaha every which way? Why do you think the Polaris 500s outsell everything on the market? I laugh when I see that all the Grizzly haters have a Polaris ! Nothing like running your mouth when you know you've been screwed. Facts are facts. Yamaha is a better built machine with less maintenence issues. Proven time and again. Yamahas 4x4 is push button simple, yet Polaris jumps in and out, often at inappropriate times. Wanna race on pavement, sure the Polaris will win the 1/4 mile by about 3 feet. Now, lets see who can climb that rocky hill easier. Better yet, who can come down it without loosing control... Polaris owners, I understand you're pissed off that you have been duped by the Polaris marketing folks. I would be too. Simply solution though instead of lashing out at those that didnt get taken. Sell your toy and get a real machine. Then you can argue your position with facts on your side.

And modern chassis designs. Yes INCLUDING Yamaha. Yamaha's 4x4 is in fact push button, but as it has 2 buttons and a flip style lock out...Is more in depth than just flicking a switch on a Polaris. Virtually everyone I know has a Polaris and has never had an issue with it...Other than the occasional belt failure...Which will also happen on your beloved Yamaha. The difference is we do not have to worry about a centrifugal clutch failing. Which DOES happen. I've replaced the shoes myself (on my 700) and yes they are an INTERNAL ENGINE component. I can change a belt on my Polaris on the trail in minutes with nothing more than a 10mm nut driver. Good luck doing that on a Yamaha. And as far as Drag Races go...Yamaha's have ZERO chance of keeping up with any brand but a Honda. Even the The CF Moto's and Kymco's outrun them quite easily. This is the most hilarious thing to me about NON Polaris Owners...Whether you guys want to admit it or not...Polaris machines in almost any class are equivalent to the Corvette ZR-1. For the amount of money you pay...They shouldn't be even half as fast as they are. And yet. To this day...The ZR-1 has a 4 tenths of a second difference in lap time between itself and the 1.4 MILLION DOLLAR Porsce 918 Spyder. My 850XP will do 82-83MPH on Pavement and about 75MPH on hard pack. NO grizzly is going to even come close to that. Plus after about 50-55MPH the grizzly gets unpredictable with its steering. Again I know this personally from owning 2 different Grizzly's over the years. First a 660 and then a 700. My Polaris machines are ROCK SOLID at full speed.

Well let's see, the polaris rides better, has more ground clearance, it's way faster, has way more torque, better dealer support? Better resale & way more than I care to mention here. Ride both and decide like I did. I brought an 850sp and couldn't be happier. By the way I'm 57 and started riding dirt bikes then 3 wheelers then quads at 5 years old and have owned Hondas, Hodaka's Can Am's Polaris so I think I have a little bit of experience and I'll admit that the Yamaha is a little more reliable (not by much) but parts are way more expensive. This video is b.s. I never met a grizzly that could come close to me in a drag race, out climb, outpull, out plow my polaris and where did they get their sales stats? The grizzle does make a good starter or grandpa bike but it's not for

Once yamaha can figure out how to build a bigger power plant ill go back to yamaha otherwise there 46.9 horse is a joke NOW days. I love my xp ho 850 besides its single lever breaking system that I perfer yamahas over, yamaha has a lot of catching up to do to even be compared to a BIG bore atv

@these nuts... Polaris puts their top dog against yamaha 's top dog, is it their problem that yamaha only puts out a 700? And at the time of filming the polaris videos the outlander 1000 wasn't on the market. When dirt trax did a shootout between the 850xp and the 1000 the 850xp still came out on top! Go whine somewhere else because your quad comes up short on every aspect... The can-am products are THE ONLY COMPETITION for the polaris xp line up period!!!
@Dylanmccutcheon74711 жыл бұрын
not arguing but I read the magazine and according to it the grizzly won the big bore shoot out being the smallest displacement quad in the shootout, id say they know what there doing at Yamaha, but these opinionized videos are pretty damn annoying I must agree but they all do it, these days all makers are building pretty nice atvs id ride any one of them.

LOL, all these videos are so funny to watch. I own a Polaris and still laugh at their videos. This one was even better though. They say their 4 wheel drive system is easier but you have to push buttons, slide switches and push more buttons. One slide with the polaris. Bottom line I like all the brands and machines. My friends have the grizzly and outlander while i ride the sportsman 850 ho xp. We all have a good time and all are great machines.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and put 20000 km on my 500 polaris I ride with mostly yamaha grizzly and Kodiak this add is the biggest pile of crap I ve seen but so are the polaris adds after all I find most people who are fans of there brand Don't use there quads a lot in harsh conditions I ve never seen any quad go past the 8000 mile marker without issues the old 660 grizzly broke frames the new grizzly rearends, I replaced every part except the engine and transmission on my polaris over the last 10 years. I ve never seen a grizzly beat my polaris at any point off road and I can t say I ve ever out classed a yamaha grizzly for a 700 it's gutless for power and was only quick in 2007 there quality machines and I agree they beat polaris in that department but I ve also seen plenty of them fall apart that were well maintained to watch the dealer and yamaha denie warranty if you want to own a quad for 10 years grizzly is a great choice if you want to buy a quad and flip in 5 buy a polaris After long consideration I just bought the 850 sp now time to go hunt grizzly

lets be honest. both machines are great sure there are things that i wish polaris had that the yamaha has and the same for the grizzly but the grizzly is built much better quallity wise but if you want preformace you go with polaris. Totally false on the Grizzly, it will not lock up, I do it all the time. The reason they tell you to stop is due to the handling changing and has nothing to due with the mechanicals. Some idiot engaged the 4wd at 50 and sued Yamaha hence the reason they say to stop.

Polaris is the most powerful, yes but reliability = ZERO My Polaris Scrambler 850 XP 2013 broke down few weeks ago with only 3500 miles. Timing pulley slipped, It's a disaster inside, motor needs to be rebuild. Polaris France doesn't want to ear anything and ask 7000€ for repairs. I understand now why Yamaha's owners say : Whatever you go with a Yamaha Grizzly, you always come back.
@EastCoastATV9 жыл бұрын
Yamaha builds a very nice reliable machine no doubt about it. It's also thousands of dollars more expensive and has a lot less features and hp than the competition. The Yamaha shouldn't be compared to the Polaris 850, it should be compared to the Polaris 570 or Can Am 500 because it only has that amount of hp. Also the Yamaha doesn't have nice aluminum wheels, no composite racks, almost no storage, lower ground clearance, shitty handling, and ugly 20 year old styling. Regardless of all those shortcomings I almost bought one because of the rock solid reliability. The price was just too damn high to justify so I bought an 850 sp. Yamaha has to get innovative and competitive because right now, they're just not. Yamaha 700 - 45 hp Polaris 570 - 44 hp Can Am 500 - 46 hp Polaris 850 - 77 hp Can Am 800 - 74 hp

Composite racks have to be the worst thing anyone has ever come up with for an atv. You can't break steel racks because they're not made of junk plastic. Give me steel racks over brittle plastic any day.
@gregrowe11689 жыл бұрын
You can't bend them back after a hard hit, just have to replace them. Steel racks help protect the plastic bodywork underneath. I do agree that Yamaha and Honda do lose the hp wars, that is a fact. Ill admit I have only owned quads with steel racks so I probably am a bit biased. Maybe they are tougher than I think but take a sledgehammer to a steel rack and a composite one and tell me which one will have less damage. The steel rack will be slightly dented and scratched while the composite one will have a huge chunk smashed out of it, rendering it useless afterword.
@EastCoastATV9 жыл бұрын
Greg Rowe I understand, people like what they know and are used to. Personally I love composite racks and wouldn't buy a machine with steel racks. Steel racks can break, I've seen it. I always put front and rear bumpers on my machines for protection. I can't imagine what would break my racks other than a severe roll-over. I've even seen a few of those where the racks survived. I understand what you are saying about the sledge but you would never do that to your own machine. Worst case scenario if I cracked or destroyed a composite rack I'd simply replace it. Their convenience is simply too hard to overlook especially the Sportsman with the built in storage.

yamaha is more expensive and comes with less features. yamaha is talking the talk but not walking the walk because every time ive ridden a yamaha it is a rough and slow ride because every time u want 4x4 you have to change gears then flip a lever and then press a button... what if you want 2x4 you have to take at lease 30 seconds to stop change gears and flip a lever and press a button.. polaris just flip a switch... done. but i will give you that Chevys are crap
