I have a Grizzly, and it's never let me down. Yamaha is dependable and tough. I've towed others out of the woods because of breakage. I like the metal racks...their easy to use. Everytime I ride this machine, it impresses me.

I like the single thumper over a twin setup. They’re much easier to work on in my opinion. A lot of these are received at my dad’s shop for just regular maintenance whereas the other brands require more than just an oil change and such. My family and I have an 08’ and 12’. Neither are used to race around but both are used as work horses pulling logs and trailers around since new. These machines have been bulletproof with just proper maintenance and care.

What I notice when driving around ranch and farm country are all the work ATVs with sprayers on the back. I'm somewhat new to ATVs and have a "toy" (Can-Am Outlander) on order. I'm guessing 1/2 or more of ATV sales are tools for work. Which is great for those needing such machines.

I think the grizzly has really made a statement for itself. Even people that don’t know much about atvs, when they hear “grizzly” they know what it is, and there’s something to be said there. They have really made a good impact on the power sport community.

I bought an 05 camo 660 Grizzly brand new. I installed a warn winch and 26 inch mud lite tires and off to the poker runs I went. I ran it extremely hard on poker runs for the first 4 years and never had an issue. I still own it trouble free and it runs like the day I bought it! Steel racks for sure!

If you want bling for your bucks, Polaris, if you want high resale and the most reliable atv, then YAMAHA. I made the mistake of a lifetime buying a 2015 sportsman 1000xp, 3200 kms and over 4000 in maintenance costs just in parts, bearings, belts, brake pads falling out, front differential, axles, 5 voltage regulator fires. 2 exhaust fires. And the list goes on. I kept my atv indoors and very clean. I did plow alot of snow and do alot of hunting and ice fishing on it. And only a couple mud runs. I most ride dirtbikes all summer. 40 years riding, I always ride YAMAHA, made a mistake, but itll be YAMAHA from now on.

I've got 128km on my 2020 grizzly 700se xtr. I traded in a 2015 sportsman 1000xp, I do prefer the steal tubing racks over the plastic Polaris rack. My only problem with the grizzly is heat issues over the muffler and in the storage box over the engine. But I fixed it, I made aluminum heat shields, one plate that goes under the storage box, and the other goes over the area that's not covered on the exhaust where the header entered the muffler. Total improvement, and no more hot plastic. I also swapped out the zillas for 30 inch monstermayhams, NO LIFT NEEDED, rides way better in the really rough stuff. ( I never liked maxis tires).

I like the metal racks, I’ve bent mine in several rollovers and you can straighten them up in the shop just fine. Running square on the corners is the way to go, I have 26x11 Tara crosses for the summer and 27x12 big horns for the winter..traction is great on the front end. My biggest complaint about the grizzly is the seat needs to be closer to the handlebars, on technical trails I find myself riding too close to the airbox The renegade and outlander seat is almost 9 inches closer to the handlebars if I recall. I do have to agree with most everyone else the grizzly needs a bigger motor, although with a couple of upgrades and moding the heck out of the clutch it’s pretty dang peppy. Keep up the good work DT.

I like the composite racks, offer a bit of a flatter area for hauling and working. With the steel racks I found that things shifted around more and would fall through the bars. I love the look of these new Grizzlys but cant see pulling the trigger on one until they make a 2 cylinder 850/1000. I really hope Yamaha builds it one day because they would sell a ton of them.

I like both styles of racks, my Sportsman 570 LE came with all composite racks, removed the back one, and installed the Polaris steel rack so I have a composite rack upfront with storage and a steel rack outback to attach heavier items it's the best of both worlds, perhaps more manufactures can do a mix and match rack setups that would be a nice option.

There was plenty of boxes and other types of aftermarket storage available. Or just a backpack and straps work also. I traded in my Grizzly last year to step into a new RZR 900S. I have to add that the 686 is bulletproof, but the 850 would be pretty great in the Grizz. I also would like to see Yamaha build a more sport oriented SxS with the Ultramatic. I was very interested in the X2 until I sat in it. The seating position just didn’t feel right for me.

Being in the market for a new ATV months back, I looked at several manufacturers, weighed lots of options, and eventually settled on this exact model of grizzly, and I’m glad that I did. I’ve had it for months and I’ve been very very happy with it. I’m amazed at how easy it just goes through anything and everything. Great bang for the buck, especially in my case because I got a pretty good deal. You’re review was pretty spot on and fair. No one ATV is going to hit every checkbox for every user, but this one definitely hits them all for me. There’s more power there than I’ll ever need, and I do put this thing to work sometimes. Awesome machine. No complaints. 99% of The people who buy this thing will be very very happy.

I have purchased 3 Grizzly XTRs since last spring (2023). I have had 2 of them on some of the most rocky and technical trails north east Utah has to offer and they go everywhere you are brave enough to take them. A few times I ended up in situations that were dangerous, not a problem though; the Grizzly is light enough to winch out of most any situation. I have winched up and down rock faces that SXS have torn to hell with no issues. The Grizzly is a perfect size and weight for extremely technical trails. Did I mention they are by far the sexiest ATV on the market? I plan on purchasing 2 more ATVs to finish outfitting my family and those two will be Yamaha as well.

I’ve had my 07 grizz 700 se in silver from new coming home from Iraq. In all that time it’s only had normal oil/air filters which I’ve done, and one wheel bearing under warranty the first month of owning it, the tip over fuel valve (boiling gas fix) and a battery. I’ve put 26” itp clones on it, and a light bar. It’s had a strikingly low cost of ownership, and maintenance over the course of 14 years. Granted I treat my equipment well and don’t beat any of it but it has seen some rough rides. Power steering is seamless and I often forget it’s there but appreciate it when I ride someone else’s quad that does not have it. Regarding racks, I honestly like the versatility you have with a steel rack, cost wise it’s also seems like a cheap part to replace if you damage or modify it beyond repair. Consequently although I love the overall quietness and pack ability of a poly rack like you find on Polaris it’s so expensive to fix when broken. Of course having a welder I might be partial, as I’ve fixed plenty of racks from friends that roll their machines. I’m not super enthralled with the color of the XTR, but it’s unique and it wouldn’t stop me from buying one. I’m just unsure if it’s worth buying it if really all we get over an SE is different paint and wheels and tire package, I’d spring for the SE and get some different trail tires and keep the oem wheels. While mild mud tires are nice, I’m finding that I like the bighorns usability more.

For my girls we have 2019 Suzuki 400 ASI steel racks and a 2020 450 Outlander steel racks. For me it's a 2019 Outlander 2 up 650 with composite racks. I like that the racks can interchange with the quick links system but some times dont need the can am boxes. It's more difficult to weave your bungie's through due to the head of the bungie's getting caught in the small holes on our machine to get a good tight hold. We are strapping down foldable camping chairs, coolers, shovels, small generator at times. In order to get a good tight strap down you need to go over and under and it's a lot easier with steel racks.

I can run with 850s and easily keep pace with the 1000s on the gravel and paved roads (I hate road riding tho) .. on the trails they can't even begin to keep up .. they have the big twins but lose to much power in their clumsy drive trains and over weight chassis .. bottom line is most ATVers aren't flat track people and you can't beat this machine for agility and power to weight .. this ATV is a trail shredder, big time .. oh ya .. that 686 is actually the reason I bought it .. quick, torquey, bomb proof and keeps delivering tons of grunt .. throttle responded is exellent and the clutch is silky smooth and aggressive .. it's a sport utility quad that MOST DEFINITELY leans to the sport side .. one last thing .. you'll absolutely love the front diff lock

I know this is an older video, but I just bought a 2024 Grizzly XTR. Going to that from an ‘09 Honda Rancher. Quite a step up in performance and damn sure price! Granted I could have bought a Kodiak EPS and it would have done everything I need an ATV for. However, after looking at a Grizzly in a dealership that Grizzly XTR was just calling my name. Count me as one that prefers a steel rack also.

I prefer the metal racks, simply because I overload the racks, way overload. Some of the bumps that I have hit with the racks loaded up would have broken plastic racks. As for the Grizzly though, I got to say I'd love to see an 850, but how about a 2 up Grizzly too, it's a shame that Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha don't offer 2 up. Maybe an 850 with an extended chassis and 2 up. That would be a huge leap in the right direction in my opinion.

I am a big polaris fan but I always, always order steel racks for it. The composite racks are just not strong enough from my experience. I seriously damaged the front rack of my first polaris by dropping a cinder block on the front which broke the composite rack and bumpers. Ever since then I always get polaris steel racks and steel front bumpers to prevent any damage to my machine.

Regarding your question about steel versus composite racks, I never had the composite racks, so I can’t speak from experience, but I think both would have their pros and cons to be fair. I did notice from some other video you guys did on a Polaris, that a front rack on a sportsman tended to curl up when they were trying to get ratchet straps tight. That didn’t turn me on too much. Outside of that, I think I would be cool with either one. Polaris and Can-Am do have some pretty cool accessories that fit directly with the rack system, even though it is a proprietary system. I think both are pretty cool and it depends what you want to do with the machine.

Pledge for the top, soak the underside in wd40 and all the clay n snot washes off much better. Only thing I dont spray is the exhaust system, but I do spray the engine and everything else.

I’d personally like to see a combination of both. Let’s say a composite rack on the back with a quick mount system like linkQ and a steel rack on the front or vise versa. I feel that if there was a steel up front and you used it for utility it would hold the things that would damage or mar a composite rack. And out back to be able to have accessories like luggage, gun mount, etc that are removable and configurable.

Great walk around. I personally have a sportsman 570, love the front rack because of the storage it provides. However, for durability I would prefer steel racks. You should try to do a shootout between the Suzuki King Quad 750 and the grizzly 700, I think it something many viewers would like to see as its 2 ATV that are heavily compared when shopping in the big bore single class!!! One of those 2 ATV’s will be my next purchase.

Great review Mike ! Absolutely love my 2019 SE Grizzly , I have just shy of 4000 kms on it with zero issues. My wife has the 2020 XTR Grizzly now aswell. We had a 17 & 18 but definitely like the 686 motor better in my opinion. The tires have really amazed me too, they ride smooth and if you compare my tires with 4000 kms on them to my wifes new 2020 , they have not wore down very much at all ! I would be interested in seeing Yamaha put a 850 twin in a Grizzly though but none the less I cant say anything bad about the 700 . As for the racks i have to say I do like the steel racks over the composite type. Like one of the other comments on here , Im a clean freak aswell and even though iv always been a Yamaha guy and have never owned a machine with the composite type I think they would be tougher to clean and I do wonder how the composite hold up in the cold temps if you happen to maybe scrub a tree or something else ? Looking forward to your test ride show !

I used my 2015 sportsman 1000xp all winter plowing and ice fishing. Too be honest the racks stood up to -35c no issues, I live west of sudbury Ontario. I can say the racks dont come anywhere near trees when sneaking around in the bush making trails, the fender bludges outwards, so it would of hit first. Over 4000 dollars in MAINTENANCE repairs on my 1000xp in 3200 km did make me trade it in on a new griz xtr. I'm a YAMAHA man of over 40 years and should of never strayed away from the best brand.
