After watching all these videos on many machines I went with a 21 Grizzly SE and in 8 months and 750km of ownership it's been great! No issues other then ones I created. Fuel chip and exhaust helps with power and responsiveness although stock it's got more than enough of both. Overall pretty darn happy with it!

Now that's just MY opinion but I feel like it would cover all the bases for yamaha. But at the end of the day after talking to multiple yamaha reps it will never happen. at least no plans of that any time in the near future. I have a 20\20 Kodiak Limited Edition and a 20\20 Grizzly XT-R ... The Kodiak is a smoother softer ride .. I got that one for my wife and she loves it .. I definitely prefer the Grizzly XT-R .. I'm 6'2 225 and I'm a up on the tank rider, the seat is very comfortable .. the XT-R has way snappier throttle and you'll feel the more aggressive frame, tires, suspension and clutching right away .. when I say the big blocks like the 850s and 1000s can't keep up with me on the trails know, I'm not kidding .. it's not even close .. the only advantage they have is on some flat smooth straight aways which is the place I least prefer riding and note the advantage is very very slim (the guys with them can't believe I can ride right along side them like I do) .. it's amazing when you have both machines sitting side by side and know they both have the very same motors that the feel and power can fell so entirety different .. myself I did a lot of looking and test riding before I jumped and bought ($20,000 for 4wheelers is a lot of money) .. we ride the Wisconsin and Minnesota trails and both machines have performed flawless, Yamahas reputation for dependability is real .. I can't state enough how the 2 feel and perform so completely different .. and you can't beat those 686s for dependability, that motor is actually why I bought them, I ride in very remote places miles from civilization. I'm more than happy mine and not because it's the one I bought, because it truly is heads and shoulder above the others as far as (pleasure) trail riding .. the others seriously CAN NOT keep up on the trails .. go ride them all, decide for yourself (I did) you'll see what I'm talking about .. the Grizzly XT-R is an AWSOME machine !!! There's a reason Yamaha isn't jumping up into the big twins just to say they have one .. it's because the 686s are fantastic power plants. Know the Grizzly XT-Rs are a sport utility machine that leans heavily towards the sport side lol .. good luck with what ever machine you chose !!!

I have the '19 SE, and feel the same way about the Grizzly. I had originally intended to shell out the money for performance shocks, but after riding my friends Outlander 650 and 850, have decided against it. Not full buyers remorse, I enjoy my Grizzly but there is a lot I'm still missing. The performance and handling for my type of riding. I hope that Yamaha or Honda come out with a larger bore performance oriented 4x4, or I may end up with an Outlander Xxc. Still keeping my Grizzly, and my Rincon because they're too good to get rid off.

I can run right with any of the 850s and 1000s on pavement and gravel roads but on the trails they can't even begin to keep up I'm constantly at the trails end waiting for them .. My XR-T is a trail shredder BIG TIME (second to NON in the sport utility or utilitiy machines of any size)... Only the 100% sport machines can out run me, and most of them can't ... Lol (to be fare tho, the Grizzly XR-Ts are sport utility quads that lean heavily to the sport side) just my opinion

Having owned a 2021 700SE I agree with the too soft suspension. I have a 2012 Grizzly 550 and I find the suspension on that better than on my 700SE. Other than that I think Yamaha has made an awesome machine. The 700 has more than enough power for the tight and technical trails that I ride on around southern Ontario. Put the 700 engine in a 450 chassis and 850 in the big chassis. Loved the smaller chassis on my 450 but it could have used a bit more steam. I could smoke guys on bigger machines in the tight stuff, but didn't stand a chance when things opened up. It had plenty of torque and I never had an issue of needing more power in any situation. Just wanted more power when my friends on the big machines would leave me for dead on the open trails and roads. I have a Wolverine X2 850 XTR now, and I concur that this engine would be a great fit for a Big Quad. Very powerful, quiet, and compact.

Honestly the only reason I got a brute force 750 is because grizzlies don’t have a v twin. A grizzly is better in every way, more ground clearance, more suspension travel, better driveline and weirdly more towing and low end torque than the 750 I bought. But that power difference is just too much in my opinion.

agree they need to up the engine size and expand the lineup. I currently own a Can Am 1000 XXC after 2 King quad 750s and a Grizzly 660. I would be on a Suzuki or Yamaha or even Honda if they would come out with some HP already. Doesn't even need to be class leading. But 75hp or 80hp with some good shocks..... come on, quit dragging your feet already. Polaris (yuck) and Can Am (meh) are running away with the competition.

@@trevorchadwick7649 so, in order of occurrence. My belt shredded itself after 1 year of sitting. (And yes, it sat. My brothers 2004 660 Grizzly is on its original belt.) Clutch seized up after its first (and only) mud run. And at the start of the year, the front diff exploded. Its a 2016 850 Sportsman touring. Had 300 miles when the diff went. I’m thinking of selling my 2017 can am outlander 570 for the grizz because i have only problems with it 1. The rear diff is ready to blow up any minute 2. Now the engine is pouring coolant of the overflow tank 3. After 2500 mile i’m on my 3rd belt 4. Replaced the switches because of poor build quality and water getting in 5. I need to change the spark plugs and oil every 100 miles because when you shut the engine cold off the gasoline gets in the oil and the plugs just clog so it wont even start 6. The bushings are a joke 7. All the howling and clunky noises from the drivetrain 8. Brake pads are from recycled paper 9. Coolant hose clamp failed at 20 hrs. And the hose exploded ( did shut it off in time ) My dad has a 2007 renegade 800 with the same milenage and he just changes oil and still has the original belt and brake pads . You can manually shift into a high hear when you are just cruising down a trail and because there is less power loss in a geared tranny plus selecting the higher ratio you can sip fuel on a honda. Awesome bike. Love my 2020 grizzly 700 xtr se. I did change the tires right away to staggered sized 30 inch monster mayhams, NO LIFT NEEDED FOR 30s... 💪😁👍 My only complaint is how hot the glove box behind the handle bars gets. To FIX THIS I cut and installed a sheet of thin aluminum under the glove box and fasened it to the frame with 4 zip ties. Nite and day difference in the temperature inside the box. I can safely put my phone in there with no worries. And there is also a spot just above and ahead of the muffler that gets so hot my wife burnt her leg on the fender. This area also got a extra heat shield made from aluminum installed. Again nite and day difference. I really don't care for the squared tire sizing on the grizzly, especially because they put fronts on the rear. Pretty cheesy fad if you ask me. I'd perfer my atv to be able to float just in case I broke through the ice in the fall or winter. Recovery would be way easier. The reason I say that, my 1983 trimoto 200E has never once been sunk and stalled out due to drinking water. Ive even drivin out into the lake and rode out and around the floating dock we swim from at camp on ghis 3 wheeler. Try to do that on today's boat ankers.
@dirttraxtv
@dirttraxtv 4 жыл бұрын
Not a fan of the square tire setup either. Steering feels really heavy with those bigger tires up front with the bigger lugs. I would prefer more EPS input to compensate OR just go with a regular tire setup and with trail tires. Smart idea with the heat shields. That compartment gets hot enough to render a Gatorade undrinkable, though it was pointed out that it is a great spot to put extra gloves in colder weather.

If they want to cross names like Can am/Skidoo there's the Sidewinder that could stand in front of the Renegade with the Rmax 1000 motor. Yamaha is missing the boat on the atv market. Agree on the two-up. Where I live, two-ups are the law for carrying a passenger. To not be forced to buy a less than reliable machine for far-back country trips would be ideal (not AC, Pol, CanHam).... and the P500 from Honda is too small in the driver's seat for me to drive. Everything else is in the SxS market is well beyond the price of a typical two up quad and doesn't fit on a lot of our trails. Thus, a two-up reliable quad would be huge from Honda or Yamaha. Not sure I agree yet on the 850 however.... unless someone can state the weight difference here between the 686 and 850... would it be worth adding 50-150 lbs (guessing) to the nimble Grizzly??? for the sake of a twin??
