Thanks for taking the time to leave an encouraging comment! I try to include information about any repairs that I do on something when possible. Lately, most of what I have been getting is already working and my friend has just given it to me to use for a video....

Nice explanation on the how the M80 works and can be repaired. I have the same one in which I removed the old glue, replaced all the caps and a few resistors around the affected area. Still runs great for me.

@vintageaudioreview 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to share! Did you replace all of the caps and not just the 47000/33000uf's ? That is great if you did... my friend was happy with what was done to it- I'd probably still be working on it if all the caps were done.

My Yamaha PC2002M has an obvious rolloff on the top end, just like the FR measurements show that this M80 has. Although it is very noticeable and obvious, I actually do like it. I especially like it for playing music loud. It is a desirable sound signature for high SPL. It's the sort of amp that you would use for a nightclub where you had good speakers that you didn't want to ruin with an EQ

I appreciate the comments and most of us cannot hear that well at the high end of the band so a bit of rolloff there is not that big of a deal...

What an awesome video! I'm not sure that I have a problem, so here goes. You mention hearing the click of the protection relay. My protection light does come on and goes out, but I never hear a click. When using a dim bulb tester, the light does glow bright longer than the protection light, then dims. It stays dim during use. What seems odd is the dim bulb tester stays bright for inconsistent times. The main question is, where is the protection relay? I can't seem to find it. For others, I was able to get dioxit into the switches without desolding them. It may not be optimal, but is did make a difference.

Thanks for your comment/question. The speaker protect and the actual speaker selection switches control a speaker relay. Since the speaker protect light goes of, I am guessing that the relay is bad or something in that circuit is bad. Not sure where it is in the unit, but most likely on a board not too far from the speaker jacks.

Very Nice job discussing your repairs and the features of this unit. Subscribed now. Although I have two MX-1000's I thought to mention that I've never had an issue with Banana Plugs on these units. More often then not, all one needs to do squeeze the springs on the plugs just a little, and the pin should enter the Binding Posts.

Thanks for subscribing and your comments! It may be that certain banana plugs would fit the jacks on the M80, but not my standard banana jacks.

I appreciate the comment and question. The only data I had on it was show 265w/8ohms, but the THD was very low so I could have gotten more out of it (at 1khz, anyway)- maybe close to 300w ?

thanks for the comment! Unless you live in a larger city there may not be a lot of techs that would take such a job on, and mailing it somewhere would be expensive. Just be on the lookout for hum that seems to be getting worse.

Wow I'm the first with comments, hello I had that amp in Europe in the 80's . I have a m800 now & 2 sets of 4ohm speakers, I use with this. Should I run this in 4ohm's like I do or do 8oms is 8ohms better, safer, recommended. I only run my 4ohm speakers with this amp. Now I have it connected to a AVR for when I listen to music. The AVR blew out what did I do wrong
@vintageaudioreview
@vintageaudioreview 2 жыл бұрын
I am not familiar with the M800, but if you run both sets of 4ohm speakers at the same time you make eventually run into some problems with the M800 is you play it loud. If you were using the Rxv2090 AVR as a preamp it should not have blown out. Sorry I cannot help you more- thanks for subscribing and commenting...
