Think you are right👍 To be honest it's been a slightly depressing experience dealing with dealers, trying to get test rides, new bike prices and part exchange offers. Fuel consumption and range annoy but it would be a disaster to chop it in for something that turned out less reliable or comfortable.

I’m enjoying your videos and your style of production, keep it up 👏🏼 I’ve had my ‘17 MT10 since Feb ‘19 and like you, it’s been a fantastic experience. I’m a couple of months of 60, 6ft+ and more than an axe handle across. I find the riding position bang on too. I won’t carry on about my experiences with it because it’s pretty much like you say except the fuel economy doesn’t effect me and I like the Transformer look of the front end. I took delivery of a ‘22 MT10SP 3 weeks ago. It’s epic! I looking forward to ride my ‘17 again, yes I’ve managed to hang onto it too, so I can compare directly. The plan is to keep commuting on the’17, keeping the SP for pleasure rides. 👍🏻

Hi, good video as always, everything you mentioned about the bike just said to me keep it. I was shocked at the fuel consumption, thought my GTR was a thirsty beast but I get better MPG than that. On the other hand if its mainly you and Carroll touring stopping is not as bad as touring in a group and being the one who always has to stop for fuel first. My wife and I look upon a fuel stop as time for a coffee as well. Weighing it all up it would be a keeper in my book as still a reliable good looking bike that does its job. Good to see you both again last Wednesday.

I am wanting this bike after recently selling my R6. I don't commute and don't do long trips...at the moment at least. Just something for pure fun on the wknds. Seems ideal for me. Not going back to sports bikes but want something with the power and grin factor.

Just been out on it again today. Service and MOT passed with no issues. Think I've decided to keep mine longer. For pure fun I doubt you will find a better bike. Will definitely be more roomy and comfortable than the R6. Power builds early in the revs with the crossplane crank engine, such a fun road bike. Plenty of good bikes around or some dealers have the new model Only downside, she's thirsty!

I watched one of your videos on this bike 3 years ago and it influenced me to buy an MT10 for myself - same colours as yours other than on mine the light grey is a dark metallic. I had an MT09 and felt it was too small - and a bit bouncy. I really like the more substantial feel of the MT10. I too love this bike - the power delivery is amazing and the sound this bike makes is fantastic! I also get range anxiety but it helps to fill the tank up as far as it will go. I bought the GIVI sport windscreen and am surprised you still have the original screen. The GIVI screen looks good and really helps with the wind. I wore out the original tire at 2300 miles and now run Bridgestone sport touring tires as you do. Reports are the new MT10 gets better mileage (one tooth more on the rear sprocket and slightly different fueling) and has a radial master cylinder to improve feel although I really don't have a problem with the current brakes. With the cost of bike parts and servicing it is really comforting to know that Yamaha make very reliable bikes. You mentioned you had the valves checked. Did any need adjusting? Love the videos - keep them coming.

Brilliant, never thought I would make influencer status! Glad you love your bike as I do. There is a vid last year on the valve service but yes all the exhaust valves had closed up and needed new shims. About £800.00 for the service and MOT but even now still no issues. Service the bike correctly and it will be super reliable. Enjoy the bikes and thanks for the comments Richard

BTW in the US at least I noticed BMW is putting T-32 tires on the S1000XR for 2024! 170hp that says something I think! I loved em on my Tracer 9gt but could not find them when it came time to replace so I have been running RoadSmart 4s until finally this time I found and installed T32s again! Which I LOVE! I actually like them dang near as much as the S22s that came on my MT-10....which as much as I liked the S22s the rear only went 600 miles to the wearbar...not a typo I only got six hundred miles to the wear bar! (all heavy wristed twisties but STILL!!)

I liked the T32s, but now, two years later, I have Michelin Road 6 fitted. I still love the bike. It's still reliable, and I'm shortly on a big trip onto the European continent, no doubt looking for foreign fuel stations 🤣

I just thought I might add, when I picked up my box stock '18 Mt10, I kept the exhaust system entirely intact and pulled the ECU and had it flashed. The results were absolutely astounding. I would highly recommend anyone have their ECU competently flashed regardless of the exhaust system on their bike.

That is something I would consider doing. I've ridden 31,000 miles on the stock settings. Everyone saying it rides horrible stock, but I like it and probably subconsciously ride around any flaws in the fueling. Definitely don't want more noise, don't want worse fuel consumption but smoother fueling yes.

Just chopped my Triumph Speed triple 1050 RS for the exact same as yours( 2016) I like its got a key, tons of power, the seating for me is spot on at 5'9" and that cross plane engine tone is to die for!! The tank range is not a good thing but for me I ride fast and on rural roads and a pit stop at a fuel station aint a bad thing.

I think the standard exhaust sounds fine. They are really nice bikes even if they do munch the fuel a bit quick, like you say, having a bike that puts a smile on your face is worth a lot in itself. Our friend saddlebags would have a great time on one, right up his street. I wouldn't upgrade to the new one if I were you. Not enough big changes on the new one.

I inquired about a test ride when the new model was announced, it's still proving impossible to get a demo bike so looks like it's staying. The only other bike that interests me the Tiger 1200. So expensive and my local dealer said max 30 mins test which I will probably decline. Hoping to catch up with Saddlebags next month as we have a week's family holiday in North Devon and hoping to bring two bikes down in the van. Good to hear from you and your advice not to upgrade is sound.👍👍👍

Your MT-10 & Street Triple are definitely keepers! We have similar taste in bikes and only ride countryside/backroads. FYI, the "Scenic Motorcycle app" only on I-Phones is awesome for navigation. My similar bikes are: Bought new in the 2019 MT 10 (hooligan mode non stop & installed a Werkes Full exhaust), used 2012 Triumph Speed Triple 1050 (first ever European bike bought 2 months ago with only 3460 miles), used 2008 Suzuki B-King (3 years ago), & used 2014 Honda CB1100 Cafe Racer (1.5 yrs. ago with 2800 miles) regretfully sold 2 weeks ago. Along with the MT-10, the Speed Triple goes through curves smooth as butter (thought speedo was broken 73mph thru 35mph caution posted curves LOL. Since my wife won't ride, my son took over the MT-10 which is solid with 25,000 miles with 6 new sets of tires now and having normal maintenance of valves this week along with new plugs, antifreeze, air filter, brake pads/fluid and clutch fluid by a 41 yr. family owned motorcycle dealership. Since valves being done by the experts, letting them do the usual self maintenance items this week. Oh! MT-10 will easily overtake a Super Duke 1290 at 155mph & don't ask me how I know. That's really interesting, I also owned a 2012 Speed Triple, just found the leg position a little too tight for my big body. Great bike. Think the MT10 is a keeper, been out on it today, still amazes me. Always great to hear from the USA, I don't get many views from there so welcome along to my little channel. Although my son has his motorcycle licence, I'm not sure I would trust him with my MT10!

Nice one Richard totally get your dilemma I am of an older vintage and my old XJR is great and still runs really well but part ex isn't an option so I will keep her and maybe add a lighter and more frugal stable mate . The choice these days is incredible and newer bikes are of course more expensive to insure mine is very cheap .As we all know tho if you find something that really floats your boat it almost becomes buy and run by any means possible 😂 being practical just doesn't come into it . cheers👍

I rode one of these for the first time the other day and I have to say it was the most brutal bike I’ve ridden. The one I rode was remapped and in the mode with no traction and all the safety settings turned off. Having ridden the wife’s 1290 Superduke which in paper has 20mph more I have to say the MT10 was brutal, it was like putting a saddle on a velociraptor! Every time I accelerated out of a bend the front end wanted to come up, I loved it 😍

I like the saddle on a Velocirapter analogy 🤣🤣 There’s a reason I've owned this bike so much longer than any previous bike. Just cannot find anything more exciting that I like more. Something about the MT10, raw and slightly unhinged. My Mrs won't swop from her 675 Street Triple and it's riding with her that stops me doing really stupid things with the Yam. It definitely encourages you to be a hooligan but it can be ridden sensibly. Think I'm just going to hang onto this bike, it's been totally reliable and just did Northern Spain on it without issue. Perhaps you need one as a second bike ???

I think the MT range are unreal, affordable, reliable and the right level of mental to make you want to keep them and be able to tour on them as well. Would probably go for something slightly more designed to carry luggage but without losing that mental fast feel. I've also got an XSR900, modified by Velocity moto to look like the 80s RD350LC. It offends some two stroke purists but honestly I couldn't give a flying F! Rides like an MT09

@@Banditmanuk I love the KTM’s they have the right balance of practicality and mental-ness, I’ve got the SAS so loads of luggage capacity and 160bhp, it does both so well. I had the MT09 and love the original look of the xsr so yours sounds awesome, I toured all europe on the mt09 tracer and it didn’t skip a beat, loads of fun and practical, the first triple I’d owned as I wasn’t keen on the triples until I rode the tracer.

Great review, I love hearing from people like yourself who actually ride their bike. The thing making me hesitant to buy a bike like this is the fuel range. I have a Harley Davidson that I use for touring and I average 180-200 miles per tank. I noticed if I run into heavy head wind it will significantly reduce my fuel range. Just curious, do you carry a fuel tank while touring? I’ve been in a couple situations where I had no fuel services for 100 miles. Cheers!

Great to read your comments. Yes fuel range is the biggest issue. 110 miles to the warning just today. Had 3L left in the 17L tank which means a theoretical range of about 134. Don't carry extra fuel but sometimes a siphon kit as my partner's bike always has spare. We also plan our tour routes around finding Petrol. It's a great bike other than that

Same as, My MT10 is 6 years old in June. I have owned it from new and have no plans to change it. There is nothing else I want enough to stump up the cost to change. Instead I bought a Tracer 900GT to join it in the garage and use that for longer distance trips. The MT10 still comes out for Sunday morning blasts.

Was provisionally offered 5K against the new £13500 MT10 at my supplying dealer, there is zero chance of me taking that especially as so far no one has managed to offer a test ride on the new bike. I've also seriously considered the Tracer 900GT but I've also got a Velocity Moto XSR900 with that same fantastic triple engine. Not sure I will get a buying signal from Carol for a third bike, she's still running her 2015 30,000 mile Street Triple.

@@Banditmanuk I think the Tracer 900GT is a more cheaply produced bike than the MT10. It comes with poor suspension that needs replacing and nasty Dunlop tyres. Once those are addressed it is quite a nice travel bike but I will probably trade that next year. I am tempted by the BMW S1000xr and would like to try the new Triumph 1200 GT Pro.

Think the longer you keep them, the more memories you build of the places you've ridden them. Gets more difficult to sell. Reliability means alot. Had a 2012 Multistrada that caused so many issues that I hated it and sold at a big loss.

Keep the MT10. There again, I'm biased. If I may make one point, I have noticed you gear indicator is often in a gear or 2 lower, than I would use on steady speed road sections. Not sure if yours has the quick shifter, but I find it so easy to quickly knock it up a couple of gears, instead of regularly staying in a middle gear. I don't find it a chore to bang it down the box, when required. I also fill my tank at home before going off for a ride. I take at least 5 mins getting the last litre or 2 into the filler neck, but that is with the bike on my paddock stand and therefore bolt upright. I also have the Yamaha Touring model screen on it. Just a few thoughts. Another enjoyable vid. Richard.

🤣🤣🤣 I like the look of the Tiger 1200 but it's so expensive and it's got electronic suspension and keyless which I don't really like. Also proving difficult to get a test ride on both the new MT10 and the Tiger. Local Triumph dealer said I could only have a 30 minute demo, feel like telling him to stuff it. Got the feeling they have more inquiries than bikes to sell.

Hi Richard, I had a test drive on one of these a long time ago and was wowed. I had a vfr800 fi at the time which I sold after 21 yrs of ownership because I loved it so much. I had to sell last year due to skeletal problems and the bikes ergonomics. I put bar risers and footpeg lowers but still hurt. My only gripe with the bike was when thrashing it, it did 35-38mpg. So high revving if you want it to go. When I sold it, was like new. I have bought a honda nc750x yeah boring as hell people say. But imo not so still ride well in excess of National speed limits in fact as fast as I rode VFR. However, very very comfortable, so far @veraging 80mpg.. servicing absolutely simple. Do my own valves when it comes to it. I test drove loads of bikes and many excited me but my bike is fast enough for the road. I love torque rather than thrashing. I still thrash mine but revs out at 6500. This will be my final bike at my age. People say whatever bike you ride on the road, 650cc-1300cc, riders generally ride at the same speed. You cant wheelie, cant rip the tarmac up but, its far from ‘slow’. My vfr was 21 yrs old and my bulldog was 17yrs old. Keep it and get something else😁😁

I rode the NC750X for a week in Cran Canaria, it's a great bike and very comfortable. I kept hitting the rev limiter at the start but you soon get used to the different style of riding. Think keeping it is probably the right thing to do . 👍👍

I very nearly got one of these, but literally every single dealership I could find down south at the time that had a demo, the bike turned out to be crashed by the time I turned up to demo it... gave up in the end and got the Triumph Street Triple 765R :-)

Carol would say you made the right choice with the Street Triple, she's still loves her's. The MT10 is in another league of craziness and wheelie nonsense. I love it and it's looking like it's staying as I still cannot get a demo on the new model and Yamaha has definite supply issues. (Lots of manufacturers have supply issues with new bikes)

I’ve still got my stock exhaust. I love the sound. I just don’t know what I’d replace the MT10 with that wouldn’t disappoint me so I’m keeping it. I can get 300km out of a tank if I’m just cruising but it’s usually 240km. You could always gear the bike up one tooth and that will improve mileage and temper the power a bit.

I believe your (Hadley's) changes are what Yamaha did with the new one-changed the sprocket to get better mileage and less wheelie happy since the chain will need to stretch a bit longer with the smaller sprocket. Also, I agree it makes little sense to swap your proven MT10 for a new one if the price delta is as large as you quoted plus you just did the major service (valves). I've been considering getting an MT10 but will most likely get the new one as I don't have an MT10 now though yours looks a bit better to my eye than the new one with its eyebrows.

When you have the luxury of owning 2 bikes you are in a position to own something fun, and something more touring focused. I guess you just have to work out what bike is the most fun 👍then decide the right bike for your everyday/touring bike. My partner rides a cb1000r me a speed triple 955i, when we tour her tiny little tank is a pain, we have had a few close calls.... the worst was in Scotland, limped to a fuel station to find it was closed. Anyway, she loves her bike and we just live with the regular fuel stops. I sold a speed triple to buy a sprint St for touring, it was amazing for the job but was just boring, so got rid of it after Scotland and back to the speed triple. I'm sure I heard a saying that the best bike to tour on is the one you ride. Works for us.

Hi Richard, I’m so glad you’ve uploaded this. Both me and you in terms of weight are the same, but I’m only 5’11 and with a 29 inside leg. I’m seriously thinking of a naked middleweight and spent many hour on YT looking at all the reviews on the 2021 MT09 as a second bike. The bike I use for long distance work is my VFR 1200x which I wouldn’t part with for nothing, but looking for something lighter and smaller just to take out for a couple hours to have a bit of fun on. But anyway, you having said that it’s very comfortable for you at 6’3 tall, how do find the knee bend in terms of comfort? I’m going to have to get me a test ride on the 09. Thanks for watching Dave. The MT10 is the more relaxed comfortable riding position of this 1000CC naked class in my opinion. Difficult to see you going wrong with an 09. My other bike is an XSR900 which is based on the MT09, the triple engine is still mighty fun. We are both 57 but I'm sure we both want to keep riding fun bikes without being crippled and the 09 and 10 still hit the spot. As far as leg position I think I'm slightly more comfortable on the 10 than the XSR900 but both way better than a 675 Street Triple or Speed Triple

Great video, enjoyable watch. I found myself in the same dilema but 4 weeks ago mine was sold on. Its a great bike but i found the tank range a bit stressful at times especially when doing trips with firends with 40-60% more range and due to neck issues it got increasingly more uncomfortable. I poked around for ages but in the end got a great deal on a 21 plate s1000xr with 7k trade in on my 2016mt10 with 10k miles on it, i paid £9300 for mine new so bit thier hand off haha. The engine is awesome and if they threw it into a tracer it would be an absolute no brainer for me so was hopeful for the new one maybe having a couple more ltrs.... but it has a small tank still and a droopy face. I get the smiles per miles argument but at the current prices 30 quid for a quick ride every sunday was getting abit much for me, last 2 tanks on the xr have been 195 and 209 miles from 20ltrs from a heavier bike with a few more ponies.

That was a good trade in price on the MT10👍 You were obviously having all the same thoughts as me regarding range and consumption. My Yam dealer obviously thinks mine is worth 2K less as its got 28,000 miles on but I didn't press him as I wasn't seriously negotiating and tbh I don’t like the new styling on the 10. I can live (just) with the consumption but the range thing requires planning every time we organise tours and I'm taking it to Spain again later this year! Do like the XR Beemer, fast and definitely more practical for touring, for me I didn't like the way the seat kind of cupped you into one position but certainly a great bike and hope you enjoy it long term as much as the Yam. I mentioned this to my local dealer and they let me have a demo for 2 days so I took a couple hundred mile run up to Wales and found it actually pretty nice, I'm 6ft 4 and about 120kilos so the seat has to work hard 😂. Hope you get the stops OK and i look forward to any spain related content you show off. I ran out of fuel in France because a planned stop was shut and had to syphon fuel out of a buddys zzr 😂. 6 years on one bike is good going, I really like seeing your experiences with the bike too, you ride pretty similarly to me so I'd be confidant if I ever bought one it'd hold up very well indeed :) Yeah it is a pity on the range, even just making the tank take up more of those little covers space would be grand, and not like it's going to slow it down much. Ah no bike is too much, you just have potential there to use if you ever need it :D The CBF is the same, fuel gauge is only useful for when you're nearly empty. I'll always learn what my bike can do off the trip meter anyway I think, purely out of habit! 5k!! You know its interesting you should comment, I was watching your vid where you talk about the merits of older bikes and the prices of new ones. I didn't comment as it looked like you had your work cut out answering the huge number already there. Carol for sure wants to just keep running her Street Triple and I'm increasingly thinking I should do the same with the 10. Yes it's thirsty but it's super reliable. Folks think it's high milage but it's not..... Good for 100,000 miles in my opinion. It's definitely worth more than 5K! I really like the look of the new Tiger 1200 but after inquiring at my local dealer they said I could only test ride for 30 mins! On a bike that was over £18,000. Not a chance I would spend that much on such a short test. Destined I think to hang onto the bikes I have. Spend the money riding them exploring new places. Always good to hear from you.

@@Banditmanuk Haha fair enough, I think I'd to sit down for a few hours that evening to get through them all :) A good complaint, always comment away I don't mind replying to them all :) I've gotten worse commenting these days as I mostly watch through a little google tv thing. I mean it makes sense these days, with the trade in value being so low and the new bike being so high.....those bikes will essentially last forever the way you look after them! 30 minutes...no way. I rode the 1200 XCX for 4/5 hours and I'd want longer for a brand new one. They are a beautiful bike, super comfy, but a lot less agile than the 10. Sounds like a bloody good plan to me amigo :)

Dealers need to allow longer imo as you can’t get a feel for a bike in 30 minutes. I’ve hated bikes on first rides and loved them after 2 weeks of riding them 😂 bikes are slow to release atm to press due to delays and so many people wanting to test them.

The only thing Yamaha did for 22+ gen to address range was to gear it up which gets an extra 5MPG US gallons on the TEST which probably requires holding an exact particular speed...but bottom line the taller gearing makes the bike rather dangerous to take off on! I imagine people have stalled em in really bad bad places etc! Screw the milage I am going back to the PRE '22 spec gearing!...I imagine Yamaha simply put a 1 tooth larger CS sprocket which is why the wheelbase shrunk a tiny amount

I didn't know the new model was geared up. First gear is tall enough on my bike, 80mph +. It's part of the fun of riding this bike. For the power they have, they do have a short wheelbase and are very wheelie prone.

Hi, I live in the same area as you. Loved my MT10 but could not live with the fuel range. Like you I could forgive the consumption just for the sound bit not the range. When out on group day rides or touring the most I ever got before going on reserve was 100 miles and its just stressful. Had an MT09 which is far more fuel efficient but like all Yamaha's including the very latest ones the fuel gauges are a waste of time. Most manufacturers have fairly accurate gauges these days that actually tell you how many miles you have left before empty. This is far more useful and on my Kawasaki SX1000 which has a 19 litre tank its easy to get 200 miles out of it. Been saying for years that if Yamaha made a Tracer 10 with this engine and a bigger tank (like BMW S1000XR) it would sell in bucket loads. PS. My local dealer has had 4 x new MT10's this year, all sold and they are not getting anymore until 2023. Keep it if you love it and can put up with the range.

Super interesting reading your comments. Yes range, it's the biggest downside and annoyance. It's probably not so bad for me as I mostly just ride with Carol and she plans routes with fuel stops based on my range. Absolutely wish Yamaha had built the MT10 Tracer with a bigger tank but no they would rather give us a Niken. As for availability of the new 10, you're right that's why I can't get a demo. Keeping looks the right decision at the moment 👌

Good choice on owning one of the best bikes out there. I'm still on the original battery. Other than routine servicing and a replacement seat (let in water) nothing has gone wrong. A first for me in 40+ years of owning motorbikes. Keep my bike connected to a battery tender when not riding. Looks like the MT10 is staying a while longer yet, hopefully doing Spain on it later this year. Thanks for watching and best wishes.

Ive got the 2023 cyan storm tank is still 17 litres but the gearing is slightly taller with 1 less tooth on the rear sprocket, maybe if you try a 17 tooth up from the standard 16 you should get more miles to the tank full. The bike has loads of power and would handle touring duties better regards Bray

That's certainly a possibility when I need my next chain and sprocket set. My only concern would be making 1st too tall a gear for some of the more technical 1st gear hairpins that we encountered on our very recent tour of the Pyrenees. Some of my fuel consumption woes are also down to me running too low a gear simply because I like the noise 😄😄 Appreciate the idea

Hi there I’ve got a mt 10 tourer 18 plate last week I got 149 miles to the tank when I filled it up I put 15.6 litre in it and this morning I did 102 miles then filled it up and it took 10.9 litres and we go out in a group and the leading rider usually looks for a petrol station when his bike hits 120 miles so these bikes are not that bad but I must admit it’s the worse on fuel for the group of bikes

I blame drag, I'm a big, heavy, wide guy. Some folks report worst range than me. Perhaps your touring version with the screen helps aero?

Hi Dave. Only one winner in that test if you're looking at power, speed and handling. Its the MT10. Love the looks of the XSR900/LC900. Suspension is still stock XSR900 and pushing on its gets out of shape with the bars increasingly getting a shake on. The 10 has a steering damper and with its R1 derived engine and lower gearing its just insanely quick. I just use a cheap Hamo laptop microphone, in this test plugged directly into my insta microphone adapter. When riding with Carol like in the vid uploaded today, we use those microphones plugged into Rode Wireless senders to get our joint audio. Main thing is to have a quiet helmet with chin curtains, we use Shoei GT Air.

Hi. Where did you get the tail/ brake lamp from on your luggage rack.? I've got the same rack on my Suzuki gsx s1000gt and could do with an extra lamp.Love the MT 10 . I ride two up all the time. Combined weight of us both (we are both fairly lightweight) with riding gear something between 140 and 150 kgs, getting about 37 mpg. I don't spare the horses either. So consumption isn't great. There is something though when you consider range. 17 litres isn't where the fuel; gauge gives you "5kms range left" and then flickers between estimates. I have always been meaning to carry a 5lt can and run it to empty. I have a routine which accounts for the range, extra fill ups do give an opportunity for the blood to reflow to our bottoms! No bike has all the boxes ticked, while mine was off the road after we were hit by a car I looked around. Just what do you replace such a space ship with? Well I have decided to keep mine and accept the fuel stops, you need a lot of cash to replace one. That's if you can find so much fun for the asking price. Mine is 6 years old too!

I'm having little joy at getting a test on the new MT10 (that's so much more expensive now compared to what I paid) Not convinced the super expensive Tiger 1200 which I like is still the right bike for me (been offered a half hour test in a month!) Our original MT10s are still great bikes, hope yours wasn't damaged too Badly in the accident. Very difficult to replace, especially when dealers put a low value on my bike because of high miles. 28,000 miles isn't high. Fuel range is the only downside. I get the count up starting around 100 miles and I've done 23 miles on the counter before filling and got exactly 17L in. If I do a steady 70mph on a motorway it will do an extra 20 + miles. Not ideal but I can still buy an awful lot of fuel for the cost of changing.

Yours might be one of cheapest 2nd hand bikes out there, one owner, fully serivced.. Be interesting to see what your dealer would advertise it for considering cheapest MT10’s on Autotrader on 16/17 plate around £8.5k with about 13k miles and highest mileage a 19 plate at 15k miles at £9.8k. A couple of MT10’s listed on super bike factory, one a 16 plate with 13k miles plate at £8291. There's always a private sale or other dealers that might offer you a better trade in price. What do you think the realistic market rate is for your bike ? £8k? that represents a 2k loss over 6 years bought from £10k new, not bad. And a saving for new owner too who gets a well looked after bike. 😀

Keep it ! I had a test drive planned for the MT-07 and the MT-10, but opted for the MT-09 instead. The 07 was a disappointment, very tiresome bike to drive compared to my Trident 660 ( 4,3 to 5L / 100KM ) and the new Kawasaki Z650RS with which I did a long test drive. The 09 was very nice to drive much more the character that I am used from Yamaha, I always drive on torque not on HP or high revs. My FZ1 Fazer from 2009 ( uses 6,5L / 100KM ) is still a very nice bike to drive and I still own my FZR 1000 Exup from 1989, in fact I have seven of those, oh wait just sold one of those FZR's so six now. These use between 8 to 10L / 100KM they still have carburetors. And I have one Mash Falcone 125, very good for local driving and in the city, light, nimble and easy to park uses only 2,7L / 100KM. Recently did a test drive with a Mash Xride 650 which is of course very different but would make a nice bike for a supermoto, ditch the knobbly tires and lower it. You see Richard there is a lot too choose from.

I’m in exactly the same position. I’ve had mine 3 years, done 20,000 miles on it now. The valve clearance service is now due which as you know is a biggen… but hard to find a bike that does what this does for the cost and brings a smile. I keep looking at the used market for a BMW R1200RS. Who knows.

I bought my 2017 SP helped by watching some of your videos, I came from a BMW GSA as I wanted a bit more fun and I got that in spades with the MT, however when on my jaunts round Scotland I felt as every time I passed the slow moving traffic I had to then pull in to refuel 🤷‍♂️ thought long and hard and decided to keep the MT and have just bought a super tenere 1200 for the longer trips.

Wow moving from a GSA to an MT10 you must have got quickly used to finding filling stations! Think hanging onto the 10 is the right thing to do, I'm moving that way myself, the new MT10 is so much more expensive and so far absolutely impossible to get a test ride. I like the look of the new Tiger 1200 but super GS like expensive and again proving difficult to get a proper test. Some years back I took the Super Tenere out and really liked it. I suspect its got the same Yamaha reliability. Great comb in my opinion, I may investigate that option myself. 👍👍👍

Yeah it was a nightmare 🤣 the GSA was a cracking bike for going on a tour or away camping for the weekend and you didn’t even think about fuel with a 350 mile range, unfortunately it just wasn’t very exciting, it got to the point that I didn’t even bother going on a day run anywhere as there just wasn’t much point 🤷‍♂️ I traded it in for the MT and love the bike but when doing the west coast of Scotland for example I just find myself constantly looking at the trip as and as you know 90 mile and you really start to need to be looking for fuel🙄 I looked into all the new big adventure bikes BMW, Triumph etc but other than the vast sums of money to buy and kit one out they all seem to be too complicated for their own good and as such they all seem to suffer in terms of reliability 😭 I like to buy my bikes and keep them long term not just during the warranty period! After extensive research the super tenere is supposedly bullet proof and it worked out cheaper to buy a secondhand loaded one of those and keep the MT. Plan is to run both for 1 year and see how I get on🤔 Good luck in whatever way u end up going but I reckon you may always regret getting rid of your MT particularly for some crap dealer trade in what with your moon miles🤣🤣🤣

I'm a huge Bandit 1200 fan. My current one (2nd) well-modded w better suspension and a 1216cc bore kit, has 165K miles (yes, I've rebuilt it). But at 120 hp/82 ft/lbs, handles like a dream... I have a hard time digging-out $17K for an MT-10.. w ZERO internal carrying capacity, no wind protection at all, and a face that only a Yama Mama could love. LOOKS like a great bike though, and has my attention. I wish Y would ditch that horrid TRANSFORMERS thing.

I have very similar thoughts about my FZ1 Fazer. The longer you hold on to it, the less valuable it becomes, making you even less likely to get rid of it! Now at 11 years and 92,000 miles. Sounds like the MT10 may need a stablemate.

I think sometimes the right decision is not to sell. I know my bike has never had an issue, full dealer service record. So many owners keep them as garage queens, folks think 30K is mega high milage! One guy on the MT10 Facebook group said it had MOON milage! I do have a Velocity Moto LC900 XSR900 in the garage but both bikes are range compromised when on tour. As I remember the old faired Fazer had a decent sized fuel tank?? A mate used to lead European tours on one. My bike has took me to many European destinations, lots of sentimental value. Perhaps I will always be disappointed by what folks think it's worth.

Both my local Yam dealers haven't put one on demo and many don't want small time KZbinrs like me taking one out (even though it's good publicity for them) If there are any Yam dealers willing to let me review one please shout up. Hopefully I will as its still a possibility I would buy one.

Personally, if it's been that good I would keep it. If you only want the two bikes ( I believe you have the other Yamaha too) can you not get a couple of those fuel can/bottles that attach on the back of your panniers somehow? At least you'd know that you had a reserve if you were out in the sticks somewhere. Have you tried the BMW R1250RS? Takes the luggage easily and is a very nice sports tourer. And you're right, the MT does sound nice with the cat still on. But having heard my mates pop, crackle and growl without it, that would be my preferred option.

Do love the decat noise the MT10 makes its just my ears are already ringing thinking about it. My mate who we are doing the Picos this year with has the BMW R1200 RS so I may be able to try that out. Definitely my favourite bike bike in the BMW range and I wouldn't have to join half the other middle aged men in owning a GS!

I'm surprised at your fuel consumption, I've got the SP version, same engine. On my usual commute to work, 50 mile round trip I get around 48 to the gallon (UK). Have completed several trips to the south of France going at the French speed limit & loaded with camping gear, I get 50+ mpg.

Wow yours is way better than mine. Managed to just get 40 mpg on the long French toll roads. Think it's probably something to do with my weight and body size. Standard sized legs, huge tall wide body, I'm just a gigantic sail that the bike's dragging through the breeze!

120 miles to 12 litres of petrol so 45mpg uk on mine through speedy flowing A roads not quite 55mpg as my Z900 had but still better than my R6 ever was

Ha ha yes that would sort it! You know the easiest thing to do is nothing. Leave the channel name, keep the MT10. I'm sort of on my local Triumph dealers list for a test ride on the Tiger 1200. Says I can have it for 30 mins! Don't think I could figure the dash and menu in 30 mins. Not sure I'm going to do the test unless I can have it for a couple of hours.

@@the_mad_leprechaun To be honest it wound me up. Carol and I discuss it in the next vid. I've got Carol's bike booked in at Triumph for a chain and sprockets next month. Thought it would be ideal to drop her bike in and take out the demo. After booking her bike in the service guy called over the sales manager and asked him if he could arrange it. The very first words this guy said to me were "you can only have it for 30 mins" not hello, not hi my name is...... I told him I was considering spending nearly £20,000 and 30 mins is just not long enough. One arrogant so and so who obviously has more inquiries than bikes to sell. I'm still a little angry now and will probably try Staffordshire Triumph to get a decent length test.

Someone on the MT10 Facebook group said my bike had 'moon' milage on which massively devalued it! What a load of utter !!!!! It's the folks who buy bikes, polish them but don't ride them. They distort the perceptions of what's high milage on a second hand bike. My neighbour has a Suzuki 1400 that he's owned and serviced from new, 140,000 miles with no engine issues.

It cannot, as far as I'm concerned, be belittled the reliability of a bike ( or car for that matter ). It's easy to say that a bike is brilliant on a test ride or a paid review - or even if you only do 3000mls per year ( which always fucks me off on MCN when they say that's the average ) When suddenly you are doing more than 1000 miles per month or more then reliability and servicing makes a big difference...What really fucks me off about this is the manufacturers assume that this mileage must be for a commuter so commuters want shit bikes. Are you as 'unimpressed' with the GS as me? Honestly I can see why people buy it but I'd have the XR if a gun was pointed to my head and had to pick a BMW.

To be honest I'm sick of launch reviews where all the journalists are flown out to Spain, wined and dined. You know they are all going to say its the latest greatest. As far as I'm concerned, long-term owner reviews are the best way to find out about bikes. This Yamaha has been the most fun and most reliable bike I've owned in 42 years of riding. I've no intention of collecting my pipe and slippers and buying a GS.

@@Banditmanuk if I get rid of my tracer 7 then I think that an older 10 with a touring screen is the way to go. As much as I love the cp 3 there's something about the tracer 9 which doesn't seem to work for me. There's nothing else in the ST segment that appeals. The jap stuff is too wristy and not really suited for some of the roads that I ride and the euro stuff is either too tech laden or too 'sensible '

Hi Mate, Bought mine new in 2017,same as you I cant bear to sell it, best bike I have ever owned(30 plus)the fuel economy was a shock but miles per smile is worth it.So what do I do, keep it me thinks. I would not like some one else ridding it to be fair if I sold it.Might have a look at the Ducati v4 but is it that much better £.I am not that good a rider 168bhp is enough for me.

I do think the bike has many more trouble free years in it. Definitely fast enough. I've owned a Ducati in the past that gave no end of issues so wouldn't go there again. The Aprilia V4 Tuono is too small for me. Looking more and more like I'm keeping it. I've had lots of bikes in the last 40 years, this is still the best. Thanks for watching and take care.

I would have bought that bike. BMW did it with the S1000 XR using their superbike engine. They've made some strange marketing and model decisions over the years.... the Niken be one. Guess Yamaha think it's fuel consumption would put folks off touring on one but I've ridden my MT10 across Europe

Hi Dale, from a brimmed tank on the MT10 I get about 100 to 110 before the reserve countdown which gives you about 20 miles. So normal road riding 130 miles Ride it hard (you would be doing crazy speeds!) and you can empty the 17L tank in a 100 miles Highways at a constant 70 you may get 150 miles (but who wants to do that!) I've also got the XSR900 with the MT09 engine and it's much more frugal. Better range than the MT10 out of a 14L tank.

I'm afraid this R1 derived crossplane motor is notoriously thirsty. Its the bike's biggest downside. Well tank size is the actual problem.
