The 2000a has a larger (toroidal) transformer, more filter capacitance and higher quality parts throughout. It has a more robust chassis and better vibration control. It’s in another class altogether. I understand your confusion as the power and distortion ratings on Yamaha equipment are nearly the same from the A-S501 all the way up to the 5000 series.

I have been thinking about upgrading from my AS 801 to this but not sure there are any real advantages for me at this time. I use an optical cable with my TV and doesn't that give me everything HDMI would except for having to use the extra remote? YPAO might be nice. Don't you lose that if you use the pure direct mode? I use a Schitt Mani 2 phono preamp so I don't know if any improvements to the Yamaha's preamp matters. I guess the only other thing that might matter is if the dac is much improved. If I got a sub, then the 1000's bass management would make a significant difference.
@JR-ho5qm7 ай бұрын
The 1000 also has a few higher quality parts in it than your 801. It also uses a stiffer chassis and better grounding. If that means anything to you. I’m sure it would be an improvement, however likely not a huge difference. I would definitely be upgrading if it’s in the budget lol!
