In this video, I knocked out the final mod for my Yamaha R6. Sad times :( I've been meaning to do this for a while and finally got around to it, just a few days before delivering the bike to the new owner. Had to have it finished though! THE WHEELS. I needed to switch up the wheels. After changing the fairings, the blue factory wheels just didn't match at all. So here's what I came up with. Hope you like it!

I originally planned to powdercoat them. Gold back when I did the white wrap, but after deciding to do the aftermarket fairings with the different design, I started wanting to do white more.

If anyone of you guys is going to do this, be sure to remove all the tape right after you are done spraying so that the product doesn't get riped just like it did with him.

That's actually opposite of what the product specifically says to do. Also, the tape that I had on there had nothing to do with masking things off. It was put on there after over 12 hours strictly to protect the wheel as I put it back on.

I now have a major concern with that product. If painters tape peeled the product off, how well will balance weights stay in place? I.e. the surface the weights stick to will pull off relatively easily.

OEM parts are raw when they paint them so the paint has a rough surface to grab on. It only looks smooth because it's smoothed and clear coated

Not sure, my wheels are balanced internally with that stuff you can have sprayed when you put tires on.

There is a trick you can do the block the wheels from being painted and it’s playing cards. Just stick them in the gap between the rim and the tire!!

The first thought to my mind of why the paint came off is. To sand the surface befor applying paint, I use fine scotch bright. That way the paint will stick to the surface. Also, to keep in mind, that. Spay paint is always not as good as real car paint. It's much thinner, and harder to get good on bigger surfaces, need a lot of cans. Good job otherwise Not recomending any cemicals or paint on tires. Be safe Awesome video!

Im a General Contractor and as soon as I saw you use blue tape on the white wheels, I knew it was going to strip the coating off. I wanted to tell you but I realized all of this happened in the past haha Those white wheels look amazing btw! Edit: In the future, you can use “Delicate Surface” painters tape for (as the name suggests) delicate surfaces. Just don’t leave the tape on there for an extended period of time.

I did that with mine and the tape ripped it off and it chips like fcuk riding and soaks up the chain grease but it's cheaper than PC and it preserves the original wheel paint. I like it. Good job.

The finish with plastidip depends on your application technique. I find that plastidip is more durable than people think.

Hey moto tip for if you round the head of your bolts get a spline impact socket and just twat the head of the bolt with your spline socket and a hammer and turn your torx bolt into a spline bolt

FYI when you remove the back wheel you do NOT need to loosen the chain adjusters, just push the axle out, allow the wheel to drop and you’ll have enough room to remove the chain.

I would put the rear spools in the other hole on the swingarm. Some yamahas support race stands and you can get a bracket. Thats what the two holes are for.

You can't put them in the other holes, they dont fit.

I don't like white wheels on sport bikes, but that looks really good dude! Blends nicely with the rest of the bike. Matte black also would have looked good.

@@Charlieswag9000 you can slide out the axle a bit, pull it to the front as far as it can go, take the chain off and slide the axle out fully.. When you put the wheel back in, you don't have to redo the chain adjustment

M H exactly. All you do is slide the axle out. The wheel then drops out.

White doesnt look bad, I'd have gone with gold personally. Too bad the product doesnt seem all that strong if it peeled off that easy with painter's tape. How long had it cured before the tape peeled the product off? I've used regular plasti dip and had painter's tape on it and never tore it. Cool little project though.

I call that spray-on stuff 'Car meet paint' looks good for a week or so, then goes to crap. It literally peeled off when you touched it lol. Good luck to the new owner keeping those nice

That's why the painters tape needs to be removed while the paint is fresh.

Bruh no it's not paint lol. It's a type of dip. You're not supposed to sand the surface. That actually makes it worse. The point is to maintain and protect the surface underneath.

Wheels are exposed to so much. That rear wheel has oil from the chain even though you did scrub the wheels. With powder coating the sand blast the wheels to make sure all the oil is off. Then the powder coat is baked on.

looks like this product would work as a good basic preview before someone decided to go to a more permanent solution like paint or powder coating , but I guess that would also depend on how many color options this product has available, this is one way you could live with the color change for a few months before making a final decision to spend the money on a more permanent solution

hahah bro everytime I am done painting and overspraying with painters tape on... I just pull it off... it never fails that painters tape will rip the paint as well... The glue on the tape reacted on the paint because it still fresh. Never put tape on fresh paint, specially when you painting on top of a old coat of paint, you will remember next time.
