So Yamaha has a really interesting hybrid system. And they sent me one to try for a month. Here are my thoughts.
If you need a way to quickly mic your acoustic drumset, and you want to add a few electronic drum pads, there is literally no cheaper and simpler way to do it. I checked. This product is for a very specific person, and it does what it does extremely well.
Don't expect this to replace a set of studio drum mics, and a $2000 drum module. The mic audio is solid, but not quite good enough for an album. The drum module is something I'd expect for a $500 price tag. Solid internal sounds that fit what it's being used for.
The effects on the audio can be slick or obnoxious. Just depends on the settings you use. The interface is pretty easy, to use. But the trigger settings adjustments could be made to be slightly more intuitive.
Overall, solid product if you want quick recordings and, electronic drum add-ons, and the ability to experiment. It's found a unique lane, and it's sticking to it. Good stuff.

Luv the ead10. What i really like about the App is importing a tune. It displays the tempo, you can select to give you a click based on the tempo, you can loop any part of the track. You also have sliders to control the volume of the click track and the tune. The video and audio qualitybis very good. Also can export your video to icloud or dropbox.

This module with pads and LV80 cymbals is just plain awesome! I happily ditched my mimic pro and TD27 to get back to playing a more realistic kit. Can it compete with the flagships in terms of sounds...no way! But the fun factor is off the charts when set up right.

@@millerhxc I’m using it with the DTX 12 inch silicone pads. Which are ok. But I prefer mesh. But still fun as hell with low volume cymbals. I go back and forth between full electric and the hybrid EAD10 set up.

The more review I see, the more I consider investing in this stuff. I am no sound ingeneer, and this seems a good way to hear yourself better, capture the sound of the kit without a tons of mics... I don't care much for the effects, but the sound/video cature capability sounds good to me !

Hey Justin, thanks for review of it. BTW speaking about iRig and controlling volume level, I'd suggest you open garageband with the track you wanna cover and then after press record in GB, open camera and start recording. That'll help to post edit volume levels of both, track and sound from drums. And I've bought iRig also after watching your video of how to record e-drums. Thanks mate 👍

This thing is sick and the quality of the fx are dope. I hope they come out with a mac/pc editor like their other modules. Even if you buy an audio interface, triggers, mics, and a module, you'd still have to use a laptop (which could crash) just to process the compression, eq, reverb, delay that this thing does in a little box. As a gigging drummer and live sound engineer, I have enough wires to deal with, so this things simplifies the micing process as much as possible. My wishlist for this thing would be more sample memory, a pc editor, and a few more trigger inputs.

I bought me one this week and had to alter the set up. Wish this had multi zone mics as a larger kit is not covered. Have this between my 2 racks and snare (which sound great). I will sample and trigger my floor toms and bass drum. Hope that sounds good.

Not having separate volume control is a huge problem. Hearing the click, music, and your drums can be difficult. I hardly use my trigger. It doesn't pick up cymbals great, and even worse using a 1 up 2 down configuration. The app is awesome, and was worth the cost. I now hardly use the the trigger. I go from ead to my board, and have everything micd. Yamaha needs a few years, but if they get it right, they may revolutionize recording drums

Great review! I am considering an EAD10 and have 2 questions and was wondering if you have an idea about them: 1. Can you use different samples for different velocities? I have some That Sound samples and they have 5 different velocity samples per snare. Is it possible to load them in so that they trigger accordingly to how hard you hit the snare? 2. Is is possible to set up the EAD10 in a way that you only get the sampled kick and snare (so I could use them and add other mics too it) and you can seperate them in the outputs? Would be awesome if someone knew!

I know, it‘s been a while since your comment. But if you don‘t want the mic sound, just unplug the „B“ cable from the module. This is the microphone. In addition to that, you can split the Channel „A“ from the modul into two „mono“ inputs, so you can basically plug two trigger into „A“.
@mapex311
@mapex311 Жыл бұрын
You can remove the B cable so it doesn't pick up sound from the mics. But then you wouldn't get any cymbal sounds. If you want only trigger sounds but also crashes you would have to do mesh heads on all the drums.

Maarten Blij I use it Live all the time. I never had any issues. It’s a matter of adjusting the settings on the sensor unit for the Mics and adjusting the trigger inputs if need be? A lot of people talk about worrying the guitar and bass amps will bleed into the Mics but I’ve never had an issue with that either. The bands I play in uses in ear monitors so our stage volume is actually very low. That being said, it works great in small venues when using the unit as a replacement for overheads and miking up the entire kit. In a larger setting, you could still use it for the triggers and overall effects, like the compression and reverb, but you’re still going to have to mic the kit in say an outside venue or larger club. Hope that helps?

You can use it in a live setting as a quick and easy whole kit mic system although I might not recommend it on a very loud stage. I like being able to add layers and/ or effects to my acoustic kit quickly and easily. About the only thing I don't really like about it are the kick drum trigger sounds - I get a much better sound with my internal Beta 52.
@TrueArcadio
@TrueArcadio 5 жыл бұрын
@@golferal Hey Allen, do you know how to send just your kick trigger through L/R and nothing else (nothing that the mic picks up). Sending audio out live has been a nightmare of feedback and awkward mixing. Pretty much every venue I play has decent mics, I literally just want my kick triggered live. The mic is excellent for live monitoring, so I want the mics still picking up audio through my headphones.
