I’ve owned bikes for close to 40 years. There’s a truth about bikes I’ll share with you, you need 2 bikes minimum, ideally 3 bikes. The TW 200 is great but it’s even better when you have a backup street bike like something in the 400cc - 800cc range. I’ve owned 2 Groms and they were great but just too tight and hard on the shoulders at my age. The TW 200 is small but not too small. It’s just not quite big enough for real cruising which is about 10-20% of my riding. I have a large bike for that. So 2 bikes is what you need, minimum. A TW 200 and say something like a used Sportster would be a good combo. Or perhaps a Ducati Desert sled, or BMW r 9 t. The TW 200 fills that “fun gap” in riding we all quest for.

Three bikes is a good number, one in each weight/size class is optimum for getting the most out of them. I recently sold the 1944 DKW NZ350/1 from Nazi Germany, a piece of WWII military history, but still have 2003 BMW R1150GS Adventure and the 2010 T-Dub. Both have strong advantages over the other. Thinking about a midsize machine to replace the DKW, but haven't save up for one and decided on the make and model. Lots to choose from.

I'm retired and weigh a bit over 300. Half a dozen full sized Harleys and probably 100K miles over the years, I sold my last one about 15 years ago because I never had time to ride. I have no interest in road trips or highway driving but have this idea of getting a minibike just to beat around the farm here & maybe travel the 10 miles of back roads to town once a week. Your review was probably one of the most relaxing I've seen and sure appreciate you taking the time to share. Stay safe down there in FL.

@@bryanward7451 yeah this bike is perfect, but unfortunately, at this point, I commenced myself I needed more power and what not blah blah blah ended up with a Yamaha T7 way too bulky toon top-heavy, and when I tried to go up this little dirt mound near my house that I used to go over all the time I ended up, basically dropping it, but barely holding it up and needing my friends help to get it back up. I think the word you're looking for about your fuel is ethanol. As for turning off the gas valve and letting it run out of fuel? That's actually a very good practice to get into. If you ever have a situation where the bike is going to sit for a long time, that will save you a lot of problems down the road.

I find that around town 200cc does okay. Open roads, not freeways, at 45 - 50 MPH speed limit is the practical limit. I took a 250cc on the Freeway, it took FOREVER to come up to speed and people would pass me. I had to drive in the right lane the whole time. My best guess is you need something at least 500cc to do a freeway.
@jaixc
@jaixc 2 жыл бұрын
No, not entirely true. With at least a 300cc or higher and a 6 speed transmission, you're more than capable to maintain highway speeds of upwards to 70-75mph. Still even then, personally I still wouldn't attempt it. Because, at those speeds and the minimal breaking you already have on the smaller displacement dual sports, you'll have brake fade before you can stop fast enough to get out of harms way. Just too risky, plus you miss the great opportunities to see the country while you're riding to your destination, and could miss cool trails when you're highway bound. I mean if you're worried about your fuel capacity, bring a small can with you and fill it with fuel, they have some great little travel cans you can use for fuel that can store upwards to a gallon of gas if you really need the extra thought.

If you want the T-Dub to be much safer on wet pavement, remove the stock tire, the "DeathWing" and replace it with a Shinko 244 or 241. If you take the bike on a rain slick road and make a sharp turn at speed, there's fair chance you will dump the bike. The rear tire is okay, but the front is known for washing out. It's the FIRST upgrade you should make on a T-Dub. I've been riding the T-Dub for years in all conditions, and it's one of the most fun bikes to own.

@jaixc

Recreation fuel doesn't have ethanol mixed with it. As ethanol can mess up the jet in carburetors, and your fuel hoses, not to mention it can't be left for long in the tank without some type of Stabil in the tank, as the ethanol will gunk up your fuel jets from the sugars in the ethanol over time. This is why you want to strictly use rec fuel for motorcycles if you can get it. If you can't, use the lowest octane as that'll prolong the intervals between carb and fuel line checks with small engines having carburetors. Also the TW wasn't marketed as a motorcycle, it's an agricultural farm vehicle, hence why it's low torque and the wider tires for getting around the farm and land. Though it's marketed in some places as a dual sport, it's not really. It can do it, but it's mostly for navigating farms and woodlands around farms.

I have ridden for 40 years+ licensed and one of my bikes is a 2017 TW200. These bikes used to be $4995 before the madness. I love my TW - will never sell it! It is like a goat on the trails, climbs up anything and is unstoppable! You should be getting 75+mpg. Change out that front tire if you do trails, it is crap and washes out. Your stock rear sprocket is a 50-tooth, change it to a 47-tooth if you want a longer first gear and lower revs at highway speed. Safe riding brother!
@hurt1704
@hurt1704 2 жыл бұрын
How much does that 47 tooth really help compared to the 50 tooth at 50 to 55 mph? Does it hurt your low end for trails and climbing any?
@ronny-drz
@ronny-drz 2 жыл бұрын
@@hurt1704 The 47-tooth makes a huge difference at the higher end or just cruising around, you can cruise at 50mph without the motor screaming. If that is the majority of what you do, cruising around, I would recommend the 47. If you are a trail guy the stock 50 or 52 works well - some go much bigger, but you will most likely need a new chain if you go bigger. As for the bottom end with the 47, you will double the distance you can go in first, vice the stock 50 - there is some loss at the low end, but I found it worth it (unless you are a steep trails/single track only guy). Hope this helps!

I love the monkey I'm still taking the TW on the street over it
@armadilllo
@armadilllo 3 ай бұрын
@@tomalba7 cool, how would they do racing each other? Is the TW as slow as everyone says? I've heard they can barely get to 55, my Monkey barely does that and I find it hard to believe that a TW is equally slow. Could it do 65 in a pinch? The reason I ask is where I live I have to go about 5 miles on the freeway to get to a certain spot I like to go without going 25 miles out of the way to get there on the monkey

@@armadilllo copied from my monkey page So I’ve noticed over a short time to be very cautious on the monkey people try to run you over 4 times worse than the big bikes. Red short bed Chevy about 1 foot away only because the monkey was so quick and nimble to dart out of the way. And a few choice words flew through their window. 🤬😡

Go up from 14 tooth to 15 tooth on the front. Or down from 50 tooth to 47 on the rear to stretch out each gear and gain a little more top end

I did not like the tire setup on the other motorcycles. I did look at other bikes. I just felt there was no way I'm riding on a motorcycle with a 2 inch wide tire. For me it's basically this, the desert sled or a supermoto

I own 16 different bikes - Ducati, Indians, Royal Enfields, Triumph, Moto Guzzi, etc. Love motorcycles. Ignore everyone’s advice on what you should buy. I have had a ton of dirtbikes over the years and if you want a nice trail bike that’s a lot of fun on the farm or trails that’s bullet proof, this is a great bike. The other bikes that people recommend (kawa, honda, etc.) are all great too... It’s just whatever you like. With 34 years of history, this bike has earned it’s place in any riders stall. I have 2000 acres of land and this bike is so good, I’ve bought another for people to ride around with me. You won’t win any bar fights or races with it, but it will give you years and years of enjoyment. GREAT bike.
