Still have one of these monsters in the rack. Amazing synth. still holds it's own after all these years. when you turn this synth on, Any DCO synths get embarrassed and want to jump out of rack. his big brother TG77 is even more intimidating. oh my.. Pure FM a must have. if you're not careful, the synth bass on these will blow up your speakers. talking about fast punch.

Such a bright, clean and vivid sound. I've had a DX7-II FD, but this a different beast! Dexed comes in handy, but nothing beats the joy of playing a nearly 30 year old FM synth. I mostly press record and jam on it, or sample chords. it has such an airiness and width you don't get with any plugin.

Yes. I bought a TX802 a year ago... and yes, programming is a little involved. But the way the architecture works + the higher quality audio outputs - makes it a gem. Beautiful sounds.
@samthesmartfella4 жыл бұрын
of course Dexed is different cuz it cant even load DX7II patches
@cubdukat Жыл бұрын
True. Dexed is good, but if it’s available to me, I’ll take the six-op hardware every time. There’s just something about playing the real thing…

Wow ... I've totally forgotten how MUCH the stereo imaging adds to the FM experience. I've had a DX7 since 1986 and with no FX, it's pretty limited...LOL! The multi-timbral capabilities here also help (and another decade of engineering). Nice work - thanks for sharing.

Look for the video 'Acústico Piano DX7 II 1987' on KZbin. You'll hear a fabulous acoustic piano. Unfortunately and tragically, the creator of the patch and the video died in a car accident.

So many unexplored possibilities with FM. I mean, you could have fewer operators and algorithms, but layer them up, and have multiples of those in stereo etc, and you'd have all kinds of new and authentic sounds.

The TX802 is basically a DX7mkII in a rack. So anything you hear, you can do on a DX7. But it sounds great!

It's interesting how the factory patches (but not performances) have different names but sound identical to one's on the Dx7ii. I wonder why they made separate banks since the patches I believe are compatible, even if the perfs are different.

Hey Paolo, I have a video request! I have a TX802 myself, which I love, but I find that it’s really “noisy” at times (possibly due to its age). I tend to put a bit of reverb on it to soften it up before recording it to my DAW (Cubase). I was wondering if you would be able to do a video on techniques you find useful to get the best out of old (and even some new) synths when recording the audio into your DAW? For example, are there any e.g. external compressor or noise gates you would recommend to go between the synth and the DAW? Thank you so much!
@SynthManiaDotCom4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Boggin, I don't have a TX802 at the moment, but it sounds like a typical problem with DA - the best solution is to have it fixed, or have bright sounds instead of muted/muffled, where the noise will be more evident. Happens to a lot of old digital machines of that era.
@BogginMashups4 жыл бұрын
SynthMania Thanks for the quick response, Paolo! I had my concerns it might be a technical issue. Oh well! That said, I would love it if you could do a video sometime on your recording/mixing/mastering process within the DAW. I am self taught, and I can never get the resultant “loudness” of my tracks right - they always sound too quiet or compressed when I upload them to KZbin. Any advice you can provide by way of a video would be wonderful! Thanks again!

The "Grand piano" sounded like a very nice electric piano to me. More so than a lot of dedicated DX/TX FM patches you can hear in countless records. Are this made by you?

@moloman0016 жыл бұрын
When loading each performance patch, do you adjust the midi channel settings so you are playing all of them at once? This has been a huge hassle for me with mine. Sometimes when I load up a new performance patch I don't get any sounds because each voice is on a different midi channel.
@squirrelvalhalla93864 жыл бұрын
You simply have to set them to the channel(s) you want - and save the Performance patch in a user slot.

Four operators versus six and also dual mode in the 802's case - You can get a DX7 or TX802 for not much more than a DX21, btw

So, one of these or a Digitone for my FM needs?
@DestroyER825 жыл бұрын
Digitone is cool, portable, easier to program and with modern features + sequencer. TX802 / DX7 is more powerfull (6op and larger polyphony vs 4op in digitone), but real pain to do programming (but its kinda rewarding when you make good own patches) and of course its 30years old technology with midi only.

I miss my Juno2. Sold it to a hiphop/ R&B artist who was going to leverage the bass and slow lfo. Keys felt great but aftertouch was a bit stubborn. It was my go to controller for years. I have a D10 coming this week to get that 80's Roland action back.

All those sounds it can make, and it hasn’t got any sample-playback features. It is strictly harmonic synthesis.
I know you're just using it as a MIDI controller here but ever layer a TX802 and an Alpha Juno with a Lexicon reverb? Brilliant combo sound. Not piano layer (overused and trite) but warmth mixed with cold clarity is magic. Mix two smallish sounds together so it doesn't dominate. Clean attacks from a gentle FM brass and a warm filtered analog string pad. Play a buttery minor 6th? You'll ejaculate. A sus4th followed by a tonic resolution. You'll need a shower and change of clothes.

The acoustic piano sounds are surprisingly good, but most of the rest are merely adequate. Not a box I'd go out of my way to get.
