I loved everything about it! It did take a few rides to get used to it and figure out the psi I wanted. After that riding through the mountains was a lot more enjoyable. Felt more "stuck" to the road in pretty much every aspect. I didn't notice it being any smooter persay, just felt like I had more control. I hurt my back awhile ago and I don't ride anymore, ended up selling the bike. But I loved it!

How is the handling changed with a more square rear tire? Very curious how it rides or steers. There would be a whole lot more tire actually meeting the ground, which I can’t tell would be either good or bad. I would think better?

Good Video. My reason for searching was to understand which side of the brake caliper mounting bracket did the washer go on the axle. I did not pay attention when disassembling. But the thing here is you sped up your video during this area of assembly, and it appeared you put 2 washers on, one on both sides of the bracket?? It's going to be a bummer if I find out there is, in fact, 2. 2004 Vstar 1100.

So, first Thank you for your reply. I went out to the garage and looked again and what I see was there is a tapered bushing that kind of disappears into the wheel housing/ bearing area that did not happen to come out when I did my squeak search, my reason for taking apart. And after looking at your video frame for frame that's what you did, first slid the flat washer on the axle, then the brake caliper holder, then the tapered bushing. I bought it used so I was suspecting someone may have left it off. So Alls well now. Thanks again. Paul

I have been waiting to do a review video because I have been waiting for an opportunity to ride in the rain! I live in AZ and our monsoons are ready to let the rain fly so should have a video soon. However to answer your question I love it! It is not as different as I thought it would be, yet every difference I have noticed has been a 100% improvement. After breaking the tire in anyway. Low speed standing/stability is increased, low speed leans I feel more solid with, everything at high speed is better as well. I have some railroad tracks by my house and have gone back and forth over them and I can "force" the tire to slip over them...but i have to encourage it to do so. Granted those particular ones never really gave me problems before either. I am really excited to give it a try in the rain as soon as i have an opportunity as for me, that was the main driving force for me to go darkside in the first place.

@@AGuyandHisProjects Very very Interesting! I live in Michigan where the weather can change in a matter of minutes. I'm sure I'll have a chance to ride in the rain. The tire I'm looking at is a Westlake Rp18 of the same size as yours. BUT, I have (and like) the spoke wheels. Can I still run the same size as yours? Do I need a tube? And did the tire place give you crap about putting that tire on the rim? lol Thanks for the info!!!

Wow, that is a horrible design for getting the rear wheel off. My VT1100 Shadow (also a shaft drive bike), you just jack up the back of the bike, disconnect rear brake rod (it is a non-hydraulic drum brake), remove the axle shaft, remove spacers, slide tire to the right (which disengages the shaft drive from the rim) and pull it out. No need to drain the fluid, lube the shaft etc. I went darkside on the Shadow and will never use another motorcycle tire on the rear of a cruiser or touring bike. 2 years and almost 8,000 miles and almost no treadwear, and I am a big guy that is hard on the throttle. Just bought a GL1500 and will go darkside when the time comes.
