Thanks Steve. Great outcome. Looking forward to what you do with the 920. I have an 82 with the unusual handlebar / meter set up and I'm not sure what to do with it. Maybe just leave it stock but the cafe conversion sure is a temptation. I'll be really keen to see what you do with yours! All the best from Etobicoke.
@Beachmangarage4 жыл бұрын
If you don't want to go the clip-on route you can easily convert to a tube style handlebar without messing with the triple clamp setup, gives you lots more options. Yeah, not a big fan of the speedo setup or the headlight on the 920, not to mention that year has a one year only ignition key - and yes mine is broken 🤪

I have an 81 XV750. I turned mine into a rigid frame chopper. Great motor. I think its only flaw is the starter motor grind. I fixed that problem by welding up the ring gear on the starter. Yamaha factory fix is a shim but they wear out.

Steve, that looks killer!!! The early Viragos always needed some asthetic styling. With the 79's bikes, have you ever thought about changing out the old style ball bearings in the neck for modern tapered bearings? I did them on all of my 7o's bikes, and it makes a huge difference! By the way, do you have a facebook page? If so, please i.m. me. I would like to be able to converse outside of KZbin. Thanks man, and keep the vids coming! Can't wait to see more on the Kawi 200!!!
@Beachmangarage4 жыл бұрын

Great build and this conversation is getting very popular but why is the 750 predominantly the model of choice? What's wrong with the 1100 version? Surely this would give more bang for the buck...is there a reason why the 1100 is seldom used?

I used clip-ons - directly on the fork tubes. 920's have different stock handlebars than the 750's, afaik, but the same clip-ons should work for you. I slid my fork tubes up slightly to mount them above the triple clamp. Cheers!

@rosstulloch81004 жыл бұрын
I got the same one off Aliexpress. It has problems. The oil indicator light is shown as the fuel gauge. It has no fuel level sensor so that part is strange. I don't care but it might effect resale value. Clipons can be found anywhere. Just make sure you have the correct diameter.

I owned a 86 Virago back in the day. They are a dime a dozen these days. Shaft drive from the days of the National speed limit of 55mpg. I knew more than a few guys attempt to run these bikes at modern hwy speed and it just blows the bike up in short order. You can not just re-gear the bike with new sprockets and chain. OK fine if you stay of the interstate except for short distance.
