lol...when I was a young single buck I owned an 18 foot jet boat with a balanced and align bored Ford 460 V8 with aluminum intake and a big holley marine 4 bbl carb...it took some skill to handle it at low speed, but I was up to the task...she always drew a crowd when I started her...on a flat lake you could just spin the wheel at speed and she'd just spin out...the girls loved the thrill ride...I'm looking at the Chaparral 223 VR (possibly VRX) with the twin 250 supercharged rotex...supposedly they'll do over 60 mph...PDG for a 23 ft bow rider.

It looks like the Yamaha would have an advantage when pulling a skier with less side pull. Sea Doo owner here.

The Articulating Keel does give the Yamaha an advantage in that scenario, that's true.

Wouldnt that give yamaha somewhat of a safety advantage in that you wont completely lose steering when power is not applied?

I have a 2015 212ss (no keel), and I'm moving to Florida. How does yamahas new keel handle waves? Is it easier to boat in the ocean with a keel?

Tim Cook we've found that the keel is helpful when crossing waves and wakes as well as when pulling wakeboarders. Also helps a bit with slow speed steering. as for handling rough waves I would suggest adding some trim tabs if you want the best ride in the chop. we're going to be introducing a full line of Trim Tabs in a few months, designed for Yamaha Boats.

I watched this video before I bought a 2017 yamaha 212X . The (build quality) is just not there with a yamaha . From jellcoat defects to builder defects ive had my share and more. The boat just dose not have the QUALITY that this guy says . He makes many add on products for Yamaha and obviously has a motive (SALES) for YOU to by one . DONT BE FOOLED look at all the boats keep and open mind would grade my boat overall C- !!

I agree Yamaha does not make a high line boat. But they are best bang for your buck plus from my experience they are extremely reliable and dependable. I've been well served by the Yamaha boats I've owned and just fyi, we are not sponsored by or affiliated with Yamaha in any way. We try to be an ambassador to the jet boat portion of the marine industry at large.

I have sold well into the hundreds (or more) new and used boats of ALL brands over the past 20 years and in reading your comment makes me conclude that you somehow got a used one that perhaps was previously repaired or beaten in a previous life, then detailed up to shine like new on the resale when you perhaps picked it up. Unfortunate to hear. I can say with 100% confidence that the Yamaha boats are extremely consistent in reliability and uses good quality components and in no way deserve a relative C- compared to others. I'm not saying Yamaha builds the best boats in the whole world, however I suspect that the industry and Yamaha owners would agree with my opinion.

Yamaha isn't high-end. Its a great boat for the price. The other boats in the video are much more expensive.
