Definitely one for the heavier and bigger riders. Lamb Chop found the suspension comfortable and compliant. He weighs 20 stone (127kg). I’m 57kg less so I bet the suspension is going to be unforgiving on British roads and that will be a deal breaker for me. I ride a 97 Thunderace, that’s quite similar to this, but the suspension is the best I’ve had for road use. It also has its mirrors mounted on the fairing and they give a clear view without vibration and look reasonable too without adding to the bikes width. The GP is a good bike but has possibly missed the mark slightly.

@@chriswest2290 Have you tried to configure one with the extra bodywork? Stock is already pretty expensive at almost 14k CHF here in Switzerland, and if you want that extra plastic you need to fork over almost 4k on top. For 18k I would rather buy a Ducati or MV Agusta, and not a dolled up MT09 which I can get for 11k.

I'd be curious as to which would lap faster...a YZR500 GP bike or this bike.
@paulhope34018 ай бұрын
That would be interesting.. could be wrong but I'd expect the far lighter YZR to have an advantage if the circuit had a lot of turns. Looks like the 88bhp? YZR500 road bike is a lot lighter at 130kg vs 117bhp/193kg which is 0.68 bhp per kilo vs 0.60 bhp per kg of the XSR GP. The YZR only has around 50 ft/lb of torque vs 68.6ft/lb of the XSR900 though. Not sure if these figures found on the net are correct though. 130kg sounds maybe a bit optimistic for the YZR?
@langhamp89128 ай бұрын
@@paulhope3401 The great Miguel DuHamel that even the primitive early traction control devices gave such an advantage over non-TC bikes that he went from front-runner to a sometimes top 10 finisher. Modern bikes with IMU TC are even better as they won't allow much tire slide and thus even softer tires can be used with the confidence they won't be torn up. 130 kg sounds about right for the early 1993 YZR, but the ROC-chassis Yamahas (which Rainey rode midpoint onward) all weighed between 330 to 360 pounds. The bigger heavier bikes with more durable wheels were just much better race bikes. Mind you, these bikes needed 8 gallons gas tanks and there would be not a drop of fuel left on some of those races. 8 gallons of leaded fuel weighs 50 pounds.

This is a retro sport bike done proper; always thought the Triumph Thruxton too odd with its modern suspension on a very vintage-style bike, and throwing clip ons and a half-fairing on the Speed Triple (I own a '23 RS) looked odd and was priced ridiculously. This is a 'proper' retro sport bike - all the right style nods, usable performance, and a competitive price. Triumph should take notes.
