@@billabong503 For which... Which is what? 🤔 Also is it worth getting the CBR650R over the CBR650F or the CB650R or the CB650F. Are the differences marginal and or mainly just based on looks. I like the looks of the new models a lot but I am sure the price differences are significant enough for me to warrant considering more than looks.

I've been riding on the street for 37 years, I've owned almost 40 motorcycles over that time. I test drove one of the CB650r's and I have to tell you, even though it might be beginner-friendly oh, it's not just a beginner's bike. That is one of the better machines I've ever ridden. It's well-balanced, Nimble, the shifting was incredible (like most Hondas). That's a bike you could start on, and stay on for years.

@@tonysvlog2disclaimer: I had a 125cc bike before and took my motorcycle license with an MT07, so I already knew the basics. The 90+ hp only kicks in at Higher rotations, so for the first rides I just kept the revs kinda low, that way it's a very smooth bike and easier to handle. when I brought my Africa Twin to the shop for service, they had a CB650R as a loaner sitting there for me. Coming from the CRF1000L, getting onto this small bike was strange. I felt like my eyes were almost directly over the front wheel. I had her for two days and put about 150 miles on her before I had to return her and pick up my CRF again. Two weeks later I was back at the dealership and bought it. It's so different from the Africa Twin that it's really a great addition to the garage. Every day now, I wonder which bike I'll take. The CB650R is certainly a hoot to drive, I find myself laughing a lot when riding it. Recently, the Honda dealership gave me a CB1000R for two days (why was the bike at the dealership? wait for it!) and I drove that for two days. Yeah, the 145hp are a whole lot quicker than the 95hp, but also a lot less easy to ride. The whole bike feels a lot more like a heap of metal than the 650. When I got the 650 back, the seriousness fell off and I was purely enjoying riding it. Now, the reason it was at the dealership was what I would suggest you as the first mod too: I got the quickshifter fitted. Here in Europe, you get a quickshifter for ~200€ plus fitting. It's so worth it! You do want it. Just open the tabs and kick through the gears without letting off even once. It's the single best thing you can do to the bike.

@samerr.9081 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, do you feel you enjoy the CB650R the way you do since you already own a somewhat bigger big (the Africa Twin)? If you were to have just one bike, would you feel the CB650R a tad under powered? I have an MT-07 and feel it is under powered for my kind of riding here in Canada with some highway riding. I'm considering the CB650R as my next bike but fear I'd quickly get to the same feeling I have with my MT07. Not that I'm considering the CB1000r as the alternative since I still like to be able to push the bike, rather than fear it. The alternatives would be in the 110-130 hp range. Thanks..
@pjakobs
@pjakobs 4 жыл бұрын
@@samerr.9081 so .. I guess it depends on what you want. MOTORRAD, the largest German Motorbike journal has tested the 650R in the alps against the Kawasaki Z900, Aprilia Shiver 900 and Triumph Street Triple S660. In this group, they found the CB650R to be the weakest of the four bikes, mainly because she is rather loud (which she is, especially for a Honda) and she lacks low end punch (well, no wonder, up against a 900cc twin, a same displacement triple and a 900cc four). You need to keep her happy, that is, at 6000rpm or higher and you'll probably want to change gears at 11000-11500rpm. The fun in the CB650R, to me, is not in pure power. She's quick enough to get in trouble, easily, but she's no monster. The fun is in that she handles totally easy. She's a great buddy to ride. The CB1000R is an entirely different beast. That one has lots more low end torque and 50hp more at the top. If pure power is what you're after, that's what you should look at (or an FZ09 or a Street /Speed Triple or or or) - the CB650R, is all about going out and have some good fun. Would I have her as my only bike? That's a different questions. So for day tours about 300-400km, I do, by now, prefer the CB650 over the Africa Twin, because she's such a nice ride. For long rides, I absolutely prefer the Africa Twin as she's so much more comfortable on long trips, carries a lot more load (I think the 650 has less than 160kg of useable load) and has decent wind protection and an upright seating position. Maybe the kilometers travelled per bike is an indication: on the Africa Twin, I did pretty much exactly 10000km this season. On the CB650 I did about 3500. That shows the very different profiles. Hope that helps.

Just one trip around the neighborhood and I know I’ll have to spend a few days getting used to the power in this thing. Consider this when you’re looking: there’s truth in having something to stay out of trouble, there’s wisdom in having enough grunt to get you OUT of trouble. The CB-650 does this well. As long as you have a steady hand and the sense to know when to let the throttle go, just mind the clutch, don’t be stupid, and you’ll be fine.

I had a motorcycle dealer tell me to treat your first bike like it’s your second bike. He may have just been trying to sell but he said this: “You will outgrow a low cc bike like 250-400cc very quickly, some bikers will outgrow that in less than a year. I will tell you do not get a big cc bike like an 800-1000cc. I believe the true perfect starter size is around 500-700cc, not lower and definitely not higher.” The great thing about 600cc sport and naked bikes is they perform at the level of a 1000cc bike and can even be faster with all the tech they put into the engine that 1000cc don’t have. Maybe they don’t have it because they don’t need it but what’s being put into 600cc sport and naked bikes is on par and a contender to 1000cc bikes. It’s no different than a V6 turbo with a lot of tech beating the crap out of a V8.

The CBR650F was my first bike and I think it was great. Not too much power and fast enough to be fast. I was experienced with riding dirt bikes when I was little so I felt confident I wasn’t going to drop it but I’d recommend putting crash protection on any new bike. I’d also recommend getting the MT-09 over this bike any day. Same price but: made in Japan, better suspension, way more power and you have power modes. Put crash protection on it so you don’t cry when you drop it.

Yammie, great review, I've recently got back into riding and after a lot of deliberation I got a low mileage (3000 miles) 2016 model CB650F with ABS - fantastic value for money. Looks great and has plenty of grunt, no-one mentions the Pairs system which is the only gripe I've got, makes it sound like a bag of nails on tickover. The snappy throttle you get used too, just have to learn to curb your enthusiasm. Keep up the good work.

I was seriously tempted by one of these. The local Honda dealers didn't have one for a test ride. They did have a year old second hand 660cc 94 BHP Triumph Street Triple S at a fair bit less cash than one of these new. I bought the Street Triple :) I do prefer the look of the headlight on the CB650R over the Street Triple. The Street Triple is lighter though, and has a bigger fuel tank, and well I'm British , so Triumph gets extra points there !

The Street Triple is an amazing bike. I’m considering the Street Triple R (765) along with the CB650R. If I choose the Honda it’ll be simply since there is far more dealership support here whereby lots of Triumph dealerships have been closing down through the U.S., and particularly in the Southeast.

@@shogoracing4294 If you haven't got a local dealership that is a bit of an issue. The CB650R does look very good. I've also ridden a Triple 765 RS, that was very quick. Faster than I need. The 765 R does look like the sweet spot in the range of a really good bike without wasting too much cash. I ended up with the 660cc one because it was well just so cheap, and quick enough for me.

@@crp9985 Ngl, I do know what you mean. It would be dangerous for someone who has no training and jumps on it. But with DAS in the UK, having driven a car for years and rode dirt bikes every weekend as a kid. I know I ride close to the limit of the bike as I have had a couple of oh shit moments on a track and know where I can push to on the road because of these. I would be looking at a bigger bike already if I got the 500, 300 or the 125. So yes you are right but also very wrong it all depends on the person who will be riding their experience and training. I assume you live somewhere that you don't need to do training or any courses to get on a bike this size?

@@alasdairmathieson4130 My training has been going on since the late 70's. I have ridden just about every type of bike. I'll give you an example. I bought a 2001 Honda Valkyrie about a month ago. Big bike, big power. I looked at the tire date and the front was 9 years old and the back was 7 years old. Great tread still on them but they were getting old. About a week later I turned left from a stop light and shifted into second gear not aggressively but the back end spun out on me. In my world no problem to get the 800 pound bike back going straight . My first thought was these tires are crap. Went and played around with the back wheel spinning. I immediately bought new tires. Point of all this is I know when things headed over their their limit also knowing how to recover from this. New guys no matter what the training don't know that. No matter what kind of class room training you have had nothing like real world experience. If you don't have experience and you get into a high powered bike you may do fine enough but until you get some experience you can't truly hand a high powered bike.

Hey Clammy Boob. If you go to Akrapovic's website and look up this bike, you can find a dyno graph link at the bottom of the page under the 2019 listing. Not only that, but you can listen to what the full exhaust system would sound like on it. It's pretty sexy imo. As for the graph, it clearly shows that at 5000 RPM the power drops off slightly until about 6300 RPM then climbs dramatically. So you are pretty much spot on with the engine characteristics for this bike.

You sound like you walked right out of 2006 when people were reviewing my 599 aka Hornet 600. A bucket of parts from the old CBR600F3 with smaller carbs and a very basic setup and yet those Honda engineers obsess over the smallest details. The result is a bike that no list of specifications can describe. I rode my Hornet (599 in the USA) for 25K miles and it was completely trouble free. While it would wrap to 13K I rarely took it over 8K. Rode like a docile 250 if you short shifted or would gladly pull the front wheel with exploration of the upper rev range. Everything about that bike was perfect. It just fit. It did anything and everything I wanted. So what happens when Honda engineers work on the same sort of thing for modern times? Well, it's the bike you reviewed here.

Has your bike got ABS and traction control? There's no choice in the UK - you get both as standard. Mine has an excellent, smooth, quickshifter too, which is a lot of fun. I've owned an MT07 and SV650S, both were great bikes to a budget, but I got sick of the cheap bits on both. The MT (FZ} wallowed due to soft (rubbish) suspension and the (non-ABS) SV lost traction at low speeds too often.I got the CB in May and it's classy all round: switch gear, suspension, LEDs, brakes, finish. Nothing has been a pain so far - All joy: no incidents, no dramas and very fast - when appropriate, of course. Premium middleweight. Exactly what I was looking for.
