got my license 2 months ago, had nothing to do with bikes before and directly bought this CB650. It is just so easy to drive but yet so much fun. I'm just in love with the inline 4 engine and driving it up to the rev limiter, yeeting myself off a green light :D

Bought this bike before I even passed my test and jumped straight onto it after passing. Great first bike in my opinion. Obviously I have nothing to compare it to but low down power is ample for me and power top end is awesome. Very agile and easy to control as well as being comfortable. Something to grow into rather than out of.

I tried CB650R a few months ago and did a back to back with the MT07. It was a very close run thing. I got the MT07 in the end purely for the sound and torque. Although, the Honda had the edge on build quality.

It's crazy to me that in the US we can take a 20 question test (no safety class or riding test required) to get a learners permit. You can ride any bike you can afford but you just can't ride at night, with a passenger, or on the interstate. Some kid who has never thrown his leg over a bicycle can be riding an R1 after taking a test that a 3rd grade student could pass after skimming the handbook. Many riders here never get their actual license but just pay 10 dollars every 6 months to renew their permit.

Have been looking at this and CB500X for first big bike after doing my A later this year. Have also considered Z650 as that is what I did my CBT on (first time back on two wheels in 42 years and they stick me on biggest bike I've ever ridden!) Absolutely loved it and makes my 125 feel like an underpowered toy. I'll be hitting 61 in a couple of weeks so whatever I buy will have to last me several years, might even be last one I buy, though I keep reminding myself that 60 is the new 50 😁 I live in rural Scotland where roads aren't always smoothest, but will also be going further afield using duallers and motorways. At 65, I've been riding 51 years, since I was 14. I started out on a Honda 50 (that's a beginner motorcycle. I went as big as a KZ1000. ) This was back when a 650 was considered a real motorcycle, surpassed only by the big Harleys. How the hell can you say a 650 is a beginner bike? If you have 94 hp, yet have not developed throttle control, you're cruisin for a bruisin. If you're looking for a thrill, throw a parachute out of an airplane and dive after it. If you just want to have some fun while transporting yourself from A to B, get a 250.

Great video. Quick question, im 6 foot 6 (198cm) and struggling to choose a good looking bike with good performance that's not too expensive (and one that i can fit comfortably on). Im in love with the looks of this honda and i just want recommendations for beginner bikes for tall people. Do you think i would fit on that bike?

I can’t speak for the cb650, but I sat on the cbr650r, (I am 6’6 250lbs) and I was extremely comfortable on that compared to the ninja and Z 650.

Hello EBD, looking to upgrade from a smaller CC bike and I am looking at the CB650R and at the Street Triple 660 ( unrestricted ). I like both of the bikes, a lot, but from what I`be heard and read in couple of reviews is that the CB start to vibrate noticeable above 6k RPM. What bike would you recommend between the 2? Thank you for the reply and time!

Here in Asia, the beginner bikes are 125cc to 150cc. They always says you have to be an experienced driver/professional driver to be able to drive 200cc to 1000cc.

hello! im still just learning to ride and i am in love with this bike (no small thanks to your vid). im thinking of getting it as my first one. but i have a concern about the driving assistance systems you mentioned. if i get used to them, won't that affect the way i ride and make it more difficult to adjust to other bikes that might not have them?

Hi! How would you rate the full powered version without the ‘learner’ less powered option for someone riding for a year or so? Meaning if the power cannot be restricted and one can only buy either or but does not want to be limited by the restricted one? I suppose also if a beginner was to jump on the standard version. Is it too torque...eee?

Great Vid Dan. Just wondering, when you turn off the HSTC and the light comes to show that it's off, but when you re-engage HSTC should the "T" light come on that's next to it? or does that only come on when the system is actually functioning?
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 4 жыл бұрын
Yep, you've got it. The HSTC light only comes on when the bike is switched on. Once it's initialised it goes out, this happens once you've started moving. The HSTC OFF light only lights up once HSTC is off.

Viewing I traded it in last year after I bought a Yamaha Tracer MT 09. They’re great bikes....especially for touring....not too bad off-road. Downsides are.....they’re a bit sluggish on the road.....very top heavy and expensive to maintain....but there again, aren’t all BMW’s? 😀 Im mainly touring on road these days and at the moment, I can’t see past the Tracer. Far better all rounder. In Europe over the past few years, I’d be cruising at 75mph on the BMW, 85 was a bit much.....but on the Tracer, 95 is no problem. (On the autobahn of course) 🤣

Totally agree, I got this straight after passing my DAS a year ago, think I’ll keep it for a long time! Slipper clutch and quick shifter is awesome. Only downside for me is there is a bit of jerkiness coming fully off and onto the throttle, sometimes it’s jerky powering through a corner if you are accidentally in the fairly large dead zone off throttle :/

Hi, what would you recommend as a restricted bike 35kw, mt 07 or the 35kw cb650r my plan is to get the mt 07 because the mt 07 is rapid when restricted to get that for a2 then swap to a full power cb650r when I’ve got my A what would you say? What do you think ?

I've not ridden either of these restricted so I can't really give you an answer I'm afraid. Personally I'd prefer to either get a bike that doesn't need to be restricted or get the bike I really want and derestrict it once the test was passed. That's just what I'd do though.

Hey Dan, I am looking to purchase a CB650R. Found a good deal for a non-ABS model. Rode for a 2-3 years in SoCal and took several years off. Now living here in WA state, I have some concerns about safety and really wanted an ABS model with the traction control. Being that you live in the UK with similar climate, would you say that ABS and TC are a necessity? I'm guessing just by being more mindful of throttle and brake control, one could do without..? And just FYI, i'd be saving 2300 USD for this non-ABS model. I'm thinking it's worth it, what are your thoughts?
