Hi Yammie, Loved this video! and River Road is one of my "warm up" rides a lot of the time. I've got the 2019 DCT and yes, it handles great on the twisties. No need to worry about the leans... the "peg feelers" will scrape long before you loose traction. In addition to the Standard model features, the DCT has walking mode both forward and reverse, automatic with paddle shifter override, and manual mode with the paddles, and no clutch. I really debated going with the DCT, but I'm glad I did it. I really don't miss the clutch in traffic, but slow speed maneuvering... well that's a new skill. Still super easy to ride... in fact, the only hard part was not grabbing for the clutch and shift peg. Let me know if you ever want to try the DCT and I'll be happy to take a ride. Ride Safe! and keep the videos coming.

Owned a Harley for a couple years. One day I rode a GW. Bought one a week later. My wife asked if I was selling the Harley. I said “no, I’m sure I’ll still ride it sometimes” A year later I dusted off the cob webs and sold the Harley, never looked back. Bonus points for no longer needing to clean dripped oil off my garage floor.

The chips were a proper presentation of the Goldwing's capabilities. When my daughter was 15 she worked at a local McDonalds and I would frequently pick her up from work with the Goldwing. She would eat an order of fries on the way home in total comfort. I had that Goldwing for 10 years, the longest I have keep any bike in my adult ADHD life. I've had sport bikes, cruisers, standards and currently a F850GSA and a KLX300D - a very large assortment of bikes and the Goldwing was the best motorcycle I have ever owned period. I frequently pulled off 600 mile day rides just for the fun of it on that bike and loved it. Thanks to Yammie and Spite for not going out there and trashing the Goldwing "just because" but appreciating it for what it is and how good it is at that.

Rode my dad's '08 Goldwing around for a few hundred miles last year, just crazy bikes. Was pulling 30deg plus of lean at 50mph 2 up, and generally screaming around everywhere. Compared to my 80's Honda it felt like a nimble little sportbike (above 25mph anyways). Was always amazed by the confidence it inspired, threw that damn near 1k lb beast around the corners all day. Could squeal tire with brakes or throttle at pretty much any speed, yet lots of control. Not twitchy, but very responsive. Arguably one of the best bikes, definitely the best touring bike ever. My dad sold his for personal reasons, but I plan on buying my own soon. As someone who likes to ride all day, there's no better bike for it. This is where Honda's insane motorcycle engineering really shines. It doesn't seem like a bike like this could be possible, but I promise it is. Couldn't believe how comfortable and how well it handled(especially at slow speeds with that 16" front wheel.) I was listening to the radio & cassette player, all my luggage was in the saddlebags and rear trunk. When I arrived in Carmel, I was refreshed, no bungee cords holding on duffle bags and my helmet fit in the trunk. Put over 125,000 miles on it before selling it a few years ago. Have ridden the newer 6 cylinder Wings and they are even more impressive. Hard to beat Hondas engineering and the decades of development Honda has delivered.......plus they listen to Wing riders for their improvements. Might buy another someday.

The FJR could have been a contender for best bike ever, but they messed up the transmission big time. Typical Japanese, they seem to not understand that Americans need an overdrive 6th gear, not a wasted close ratio useless 6th gear that is only good for 45mph. They finally put a 6th gear on the FJR, but didn't put on an overdrive, and the gear can crack. Maybe in 2030, motorcycles will finally get a true overdrive transmission.

Dudes, I've got the same exact configuration and it's well worth every penny. I've had mine since Oct of last year and already have 3,500 miles on it. That's impressive in itself due to most of my riding having been done in sub-45 degree temps here in Utah. Just got back from a nice long trip down to AZ with it, and it was everything I expected on a long journey. Truly can't wait to rack up the miles on it this summer! You guys failed to mention that it has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It really is completely tech'd out! I'm happy to have the 6 speed manual, but the DCT guys are extremely happy with theirs, as well. I'm only 35, so I still prefer to "row my own gears," but I can definitely see the allure of the DCT for the older guys with arthritis, or just want an effortless experience. Truthfully, with all the features, the exhaust note and how well the bike handles in this current iteration, you can see they were trying to capture a younger market, and they definitely succeeded. I intend to keep this bike for hundreds of thousands of miles, like many Goldwing owners. This, and my 250 Rally really are the perfect combination of bikes for people who are looking for a "Jack of all trades" couple of bikes.

I have had several 70's and 80's Goldwings. The great thing is that once you are rolling they handle like just about any other Honda from 500cc up. Honda built amazing machines throughout it's entire history, and all of them are a joy to ride, each in their own rite. The 1st factory Interstate models fully equipped for touring came out in 1981 with the 1100 flat-4, and the 1st Aspencade was on the 1982 GL1100 platform. Even then they came with helmet intercoms, radios, tape decks and CB radios. The 1985 GL1200 was the first Goldwing available with fuel injection, and the GL1500-6 was the first one with and electric reversing gear, and fuel injection standard on all models. I have yet to own & ride any of the Goldwing sixes, but even the the 1981 CBX1000-6 was a pretty decent sport/touring bike for it's time, and a fun long-distance ride. The only thing I rode that even came close was the 1885-1990 Suzuki GV1400 Cavalcade, which, in some ways, outdid even the Goldwing Aspencade 1200. It's a shame Suzuki did not keep the Cavalcade going to the present day.

If you think this one is a battleship, you should try one of the GL1500's or early GL1800's. The bike you're on has been trimmed down significantly compared to those earlier models but weight notwithstanding, as you've found out, it's a very capable machine!

Love this video, goldwings hold a special place in my heart because my grandpa was a tried and true iron butt rider, he rode through 42 states including Alaska on his 02 goldwing. He was also in the blue knights riders club! Oh yea he also towed a pop up camper behind him. The gold wing is the only bike I know where you can put a tow hitch on it
@bog7042 жыл бұрын
I bought my '81 Aspencade from my dad when he moved up to a '09. He installed a tow hitch on the '81 and built a trailer than he hauled around on trips. He'd have his wife on the back and his trailer packed up with 150 pounds of gear and the bike took it like a champ. I have yet to use the trailer hitch, but I'm glad its there in case I ever go camping.

I have a 2010 goldwing that weighs another 100 lbs above the new models. It is so comfortable. It rides great and handles great. It is such a blast to ride. I sold all my other bikes. I may get a dual sport or even a scooter or ebike later this year or next year for messing around in the neighborhood, but the Goldwing is my favorite motorcycle I've ever owned. Very comfortable for my wife too. Added the Zumo XT GPS and my Sena and I'm good to go. Wish the 2018+ models still had the larger storage areas and wish it had a better seat. I don't think I'll get rid of this 2010 until I'm ready for something smaller or even a CanAm as I get older. But I'll get another 10 years out of this thing. It is amazing.

Guys, GREAT Review and the EXCITEMENT you BOTH showed is AWESOME. It really is just as you say, AMAZINGLY SMOOTH, STABLE, PREDICTABLE and CONTROLLABLE to the Ninth Degree. I had a great laugh when you said you understood how guys can do 500 miles on a Goldwing. DUDES, 500 miles is just getting started. I'm NOT ALONE to tell you I've ridden for over 20hrs and still been awake and just starting to get tired...I do that in my Pickup as well so it's about the same. 20hrs on a Goldwing at an average speed of just 70mph is only 1,250 miles....We have to stop for fuel more often so 1,250 miles is just average. I once did a trip from Odessa, Texas to my town in Idaho without stopping....One way is 1,480 miles to my front door. I'm NOT SPECIAL tho by any means...there are guys doing 1,500 to 1,700 in a single ride on one of these Goldwings. I've owned 3 Aspencades now and still have two in the stable. Oh, I've had other makes of touring Bikes that just didn't cut it for my needs and style of riding. Yamaha, Suzuki, Harley, BMW and a Motoguzi while they were fun machines they couldn't give me the mileage or STAYING COMFORT as pn even the older Goldwings. I still ride and enjoy my '84 Aspencade with 183,284 miles on the odometer and it still kicks ass on LONG trips...the 02 has ABS and is lower to the ground so handles like it is on rails or something like that. I know what you mean about the stock tires...For a while NOW I run an off brand and love them....SHINKO model 777 HD tires and are simply the best handling tire I found for my Riding needs. Keep expanding your adventures on such different machines guys....GREAT FUN for us.

That Goldwing looks pretty good. If you took the luggage and front fairings off and gave it a nice headlight it would make a pretty sweet muscle bike. I know they had the Valkyrie, but that was more of a cruiser than a muscle bike.

I've been riding a long time and have had over 50 bikes of all sizes (90cc-1800cc) in the garage. The big touring bikes (Harleys, BMWs, Kawasakis, Yamahas and Hondas) all have had their positives and challenges, none of which I have found to be so bad as to not want to ride them. That said, the overall winners were the hot rod Yamaha Ventures (83-93) and the 5th and 6th generation Gold Wings. My current wish is for a less tech 6th gen Wing and it would be perfect for me. That's just personal preference, lots of riders like all the bells they have, until you have to repair them I suspect. If you are skilled you can move a Wing down a twisty road quite well, better than it should for it's size. Enjoyed your review, have a a good 2022.
