I know NBC probably puts pressure on the announcers to support the USA during the olympics but the first half of this routine was glorious. The full twisting swing down was just beautiful. Rarely does that skill look so nice. She deserved some more credit for her skill at these games.

I agree that they were a little harsh on their commentary here, but this entire Olympics the Chinese in particular were being grossly overscored. They received scores that were just laughable- just look at beam finals to see it in action.

During the team finals, I loved how BBC mentioned the innocence of the youth (referring to the chinese team) and praised their efforts. At least, they were being positive about it. NBC just sounds bitter over everything...

Her connection between the Onodi and full turning wolf WASN’T given connection except in the AA where she actually did connect them smoothly. Her acro series kept the movement going and definitely deserved the bonus. She knew how to SMOOTHLY keep things going. There were a couple of connections here that definitely should NOT have been credited- but were.

Nastia DID lose connection value for her Onodi to full turn wolf, other than in event final where they were cleanly connected. The Chinese were consistently credited with connections and not penalized for VISIBLE errors that everyone else was hit for on beam. Just look at Cheng Fei in beam finals- that was absolutely NOT a bronze medal performance.

1:28 the main thing that annoys me about the commentators is not that they believe her connection was too slow, but because they did nothing but praise Nastia Liukin as being perfect when all of her connections were much slower than this. In my opinion, in 2008, Nastia was getting awarded credit for connections that were too slow. Yes technically she "kept moving" but she kept moving because she slowed down so drastically. Nastia's first connection in her 2008 beam routine was always SO SLOW yet she kept getting awarded the connections. And yes, Nastia Liukin is AMAZING and will forever be remember when you in the all around gold at the Olympics, but what really annoyed me was just how over the top the NBC commentators were with her. She was like a GOD to them and constantly compared everyone negatively to her. It doesn't help that she was drastically overscored at domestic meets...

AND they say shit like "that should be a perfect 10!" like in 2012 TF when Maroney did her vault, completely disregarding the fact that she was off line. If a foreign gymnast had done the exact same vault they would be all over that mistake

While NBC's coverage is a bit lacking and slightly biased (have you ever watched ESPN?) I like how honest Tim and Elfie are. The sport is based on JUDGING so they have to pick out the little errors so the audience can understand why the score is that high/low. They mention several times how she has a beautiful quality to her work but were honest that the routine opened the door for the others...and it did. If you think they're commentary is bad then imagine what the coaches are saying to them

They are not honest they are rude and unprofessional. Gymnastics is not brutal, it is commitment...and respect and admiration should be shown to people who train 6 hours a day, 7 days a week since they are 3/ 4 with the only goal to be there and compete. The woman who says "beatable" at the end of the performance should be sent home without notice. Saying that is not "fluff", it is respect.
