It really could have been an “F you, if you can’t throw up and in without hitting my guys then don’t throw up and in”. Holmes really hasn’t had great control when it’s been dry, let alone in a rain storm, so I can’t really disagree with Hyde here.

Those old timers played ROUGH!! Drysdale stated it very clearly: "My philosophy is simple--you hit one of ours--I hit two of yours." That's how it was done back in the day!! While it certainly might have been an accident--(and probably was--Holmes most likely lost his grip in the rain)--there's been some past history between these clubs this season with guys getting drilled. I’ve got a sneaky feeling about this: Remember during 60 game season in 2020 the Yankees knew the Rays were gonna be a problem. Then during a random game against them mid-season when the Yankees were in a similar freefall the Yankees hit Brosseau (a random dude) in the 9th inning to spark even more tension between the two teams. Then it came back to bite the Yankees in the postseason that year. I’m not saying it will happen again, but you know it when you’ve seen a certain movie before that you didn’t like you don’t wanna see it again……

Good take. I’m a Yankees fan and don’t think Hyde was out of line. He can be mad, looking out for his team and player, it’s his job to do so, but the Yankees can also stick up for their teammate and tell Hyde to go F himself. It’s a win-win.
