Learn what to do with yarn ends for crochet and knitting in this tutorial!
In crochet and knitting we always end up with yarn ends. There is the tail end, the final end, plus sometimes some strands in between due to attaching a new skein of yarn as well as changing colors.
There are two things to consider when choosing how to handle yarn ends.
First, what is the project? Is it something that will be heavily used as well as machine washed and dried? Is it something like a home decor item that won't get much use?
Second, who is the recipient? And do they know how to properly handle handmade items?
In this tutorial I show how I handle these different scenarios. For the fabric adhesive glue, I'm using Aleene's Quick Dry Fabric Fusion, as well as the regular (not quick dry) one. Both of which dry clear, leave the yarn flexible, plus the items can be laundered safely.
Any questions, feel free to ask. And please enjoy! Donna Wolfe from Naztazia

I’m making my very first granny square blanket, and was concerned about my ends coming loose, especially as I have heard that the yarn I am using is prone to that. This video came out at the perfect time for me. I will absolutely be investing in fabric glue for this project! Thank you!

😂 That was my Dad! My Mom crocheted and embroidered and made beautiful tablecloths and runners. My Dad had a habit of grabbing one and wiping down the car! I've never used fabric glue but I do use knots and weave in the thread. If I notice that the thread tends to split I divide it, make knots and weave half one way and the other half the opposite way. I also don't just weave one way but back track and go the opposite way to finish it and cut on an angle. I think the thread ends blend better that way. Thank you for all your helpful videos

When I finished my 6’x6’ temperature blanket I had 26 million yarn tails 😳 I did square knots and a little fray check (I think the fabric glue you suggested would have been better. Then I hand sewed on binding. Very pleased with the results 😊

Thanks for sharing. What method would be good for lightweight shawls?
@naztazia
@naztazia Ай бұрын
Lightweight shawls are usually made with thinner yarn, that sometimes can be a bit slippery. With this in mind, I generally try to weave in the ends, and then place a small dab of fabric glue right on the trimmed end section. With larger projects like shawls (as opposed to something like a washcloth) I do make a small 2-3 row sample first and then try the various yarn methods like weaving in, knotting, and glue, to see what combinations do the best.

Many, many years ago, I made an afghan working each row separately (I hope that makes sense. I'm recovering from surgery and a bit loopy) The afghan creates its own fringe. Sadly, while trying to cut them evenly, I wound up cutting them WAY too short. It was a gift to my mother-in-law and she was never able to use it. Would fabric glue work for that. I would really like to give it to the person my MIL wanted it to go to. Thank you!@
@naztazia
@naztazia Ай бұрын
I completely understand! You started a row leaving a longer tail end for fringe on the one side, and then left a longer ending tail end once you finished that row. Then the ends got trimmed a bit too much. So what I would do is place a dot of Aleene's Fabric Fusion fabric glue on each of those tail ends right where the last stitch was on the blanket to help secure that end in place to the last stitch and let dry for a day. What I would then do is make new fringe (I have a video for that if needed), maybe four, five, or six 12 inch strands that are then folded in half and inserted into the point where the short end is, while at the same time trying to hide that one short end in the middle of this new fringe. I would feel comfortable from a security perspective with this. The other option is to still place a dot of glue on all of those tail ends, then weave in whatever you can with a crochet hook or yarn needle back into the work and place a single crochet edge along the whole blanket to encase the ends (with another border on top of that if it works).
