Thank you so much! I wanted to see what these machines do before buying because I like my yarn in a ball not skein and could not imagine these making a ball even though people keep calling them “yarn baller machines” and your video is straight to the point and showed exactly what I needed to know, it is more of a “cake” than a ball. Great video, happy crafting!

Just a tip...that bottom arm is supposed to go UNDER the nut, not over, and BEHIND the Philips screw. It keeps it from moving to the side as you work.

Correction, under the washer.

Under the washer, below the butterfly nut.
@theastewart6721Ай бұрын
@michellestephens8169 You are exactly right. Many people place the bottom arm in front of the Philips screw and the screw is just sitting there doing nothing. I’ve had my winder for about 2 years and have been doing it wrong all along. It still works but this correct way I think gives it more stability. I had a problem today and did some research. I came across your comment which intrigued me. So I went to the Stanwood website. It clearly shows in their picture that the bottom arm hooks around the Philips screw and then you attach the washer, nut and tighten. I zoomed in on the pictures just to be sure but it is clearly visible. I just fixed mine tonight and it’s much sturdier. I wanted to come back here and thank you. I very much appreciate your tip!😊🤗

A video on trouble shooting would be great. Mine is similar to yours but I have issues with wind the tension is off it gets in the gears or I end up having to re make the same ball of yarn over and over because the tension is to loose and they fall aprt
@sherrypelkey24534 ай бұрын
If you run the yarn through your fingers between the skein and post it will give you a consistent tension.

Should you use the yarn from the outside in or the inside out?
@BURNTPAPAYA777 Жыл бұрын
it’s more of a preference if i’m being honest; if used from the inside, it can collapse inwards which risks tangling, whereas if used from the outside, it can roll around and unravel if not secured. my grandmother taught me to use it from the outside so that’s just what i grew up with, but it’s best to use trial and error to find your preference.

I just got mine today, but the skein I wound didn't have a center pull. It's Big Twist Soft. It's a wonderful machine, but I had to unwind a section from the skein, then wind/cake on the winder, stop, and repeat. It took a very long time and it was frustrating. But, the cake wound perfectly on the winder. Great tension, an I'm thrilled with the end result. But I can't find any info or suggestions to help with skeins without a center pull. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for the great video. 🙂

I’m so sorry! Somehow I missed your comment. You can center pull from this skein of yarn but the bigger name brands (like this one) are notorious for spitting out a ton of “yarn vomit” before you can get to it. Hope this helps!!

I'm having a problem getting the long arm to stay put between the butterfly and the washer. I've tried putting the arm on top of the washer and around/behind the butterfly, and under the washer and butterfly, but either way it keeps coming out. It's like the butterfly needs to be bigger in order to hold down the arm. What do I do? Thanks.

I have had trouble with center pull yarn. It tangles and gets stuck when pulling by hand while stitching. I don't know how you are able to do this. I would like to rewind my skeins. It would make it easier for a yarn bowl!
@Yarndrasil Жыл бұрын
How is the tension of the cake you’re pulling from? If it feels really tight, that could be your issue. You want the cakes to feel springy. Sometimes I will rewind mine again so that I have an easier time with the tension. Hopefully this helps 💖

Why would someone turn a skein into a ball? Is it a personal preference thing, or is a ball just better to work with?
@Yarndrasil Жыл бұрын
It’s just a preference. I do find that the tension is more even. Also, I’d rather know ahead of time if there’s a weird break or knot somewhere in the yarn

I don't want to be a downer here BUT according to the Stanwood video instructions for this ball winder, the feed arm is attached by removing the nut and washer. Place the crook of the feed arm around the screw that is behind the nut assembly. Place the washer over the arm to keep it stable and then tighten the screw.
@Yarndrasil2 жыл бұрын
Ohhh good eye. The washer should be on top of the feed arm.

You and others are showing the arm installed incorrectly. The instructions clearly say the arm attaches to the base “…..between the washer and the base plate. Position the wire arm so the end loop is behind the small Phillips screw.” The wing nut then tightens down on the washer to hold the arm in place.
