Part of the conceptual difference between "selfish" and "selfless" is short term benefits for one person vs. long term benefits for many.

Yaron, picking up your comments around 1:15:50 you say Rand was attempting to complete Enlightenment epistemology, particularly Locke's work, "and many other philosophers at the time." Maybe Locke's political philosophy, but with the exception of that and, say, Thomas Reid (who I don't think she read?), I can't think of who you are referring to here. Were you meaning to say the opposite of what you said? It seems to me rather Rand's work in completing the Enlightenment project was showing the failures of Enlightenment epistemology and ethics, not by completing this work but by junking it and going back to working within a more classical or even late medieval Aristotelian-Thomistic framework.

Most people get self esteem from padding on back, social validation, bringing others down, fooling themselves that they are moral, that they do nothing wrong etc. It's easy when they live by shitty philosophy. T think its painful to even think about by what crap are their lives led, how insanely easy is to accept non-facts for most people. But people around me not thinking or thinking by platform of philosophy not focussed on fats is hurting me. It is hurting me less then when i would do that, but it is still hurting me. Never accept anyones nonsense. Feels and abstract ideas torn from reality are not legitimate basis of decision making.
