@@28dirtj Incorrect. The US Air Force is the world's largest, with 5,189 aircraft in active service. The US Army comes in second, with 4,409 aircraft. The US Navy comes in third with 4,012 aircraft. Then the Russian Air Force comes in at number four, with 3,864 aircraft. Though given their utter failure to take air superiority in the face of the Ukrainian Air Force's staggering 40 or so warplanes, I suspect that most of the Russian Air Force only exists on paper.

On the question of "Who has the best Navy?".. the undeniable answer is America. This is a result/consequence of WWII. Prior to WWII not only had a small Navy but we had a smaller overall Military. Basically WWII made America realize we should take advantage of the distance between us and the rest of the world. Its tough and expensive to cross those oceans and we saw the damage going on in Europe. It became our policy to address problems (as we see them) on the other side of the world to keep those problems from getting to us. An added factor in this is that Europe was largly broke as a result of WWII. Lots of dead men. Industry in a shambles. Whereas America was largly untouched during WWII and our wartime production was in place and running at high speed. We were also not crippled financially. This is what started America become such a huge and expensive Military. Our Navy is unmatched. Not really even close. Strip away factors like nukes and countries helping eachother fight and no other country even comes close in size or capabilities. Almost all OTHER Navies struggle to fight more than 1000 miles from home for anything more than a couple weeks. Supply is critical. No other country has the global supply chain in place that is required to keep our several large fleets able to circle the globe or loiter around most regions of the world for extended periods of time. That is probably the most underrated part of our entire Military. Mobility and Supply. All branches are highly mobile with a lot of effort put into maintaining a secure supply chain. We broke Russia financially (on purpose) to end the Cold War. Basically we out spent them. We spent more over a long period of time than Russia could keep up with and that broke them. China? For all the talk about Chinas Military, they arent strong enough to figure out Taiwan yet and they are a small island 1000 miles away. Several western countries have top notch capapbilities and train regularly with America.. but they are small by comparison. Head to head, none of our oen allies would last long. Americas biggest weakness is probably in how many Military commitments we have around the world. Deals to defend other nations or agreements to come to their aide if they get attacked by the bad guys. We need to be careful to make sure we dont have too many conflicts to manage at the same time. 1 big conflict and 2 or 3 smaller conflicts or 2 big conflicts stretches our abilities. Having said that, the "average country" struggles to manage what we would consider a smaller conflict. Conflicts we simply send rapid reaction task forces to handle. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines all have well trained forces ready to deploy or already deployed at all times. They cross train and can come together to work as 1 combined force when needed. They do this all the time. No other country can really accomplish this on a large scale. We are big enough to do this on several fronts at the same time while our industrial war machine would shift into high gear as we would then inflate the size of our military to reinforce or rotate or add to the amount of soldiers already involved. Sorry so wordy. Lol

As a matter of fact, Russia"s Navy is piss poor. Before it snatched Crimea off Ukraine its only major ports were cold sea ports on the Baltic and the Arctic which were frozen for months at a time. This was why they felt the need to invade. Even still, if they have issues with NATO, Turkey wouldn't allow them access through the Bosphorus or the Dardanelles into the Mediterranean. Therefore not only have they very limited access, they are also so shite a Navy as they have lost several warships to a country who hasn't even got a Navy, and now has decided to hide their ships to save losing any more of them to small drones. As a Brit myself from an Island Nation with a great history of Naval warfare, I'm disgusted at the lack of Naval knowledge a fellow Brit has. The US Navy is by far the most powerful. Don't go by the number of ships since Countries like China and Russia count all of their ships owned by the Navy, whereas the US only counts it's Warships. It's best to go by water displacement tonnage by which it's very clear who has the most powerful Navy.

not completely disagreeing with you, because that could happen. However in most cases it's a psychological strategy. If Iran is monitoring radio traffic, and they keep hearing about Bravo, Charlie, and Delta...that begs the question....where's Alpha, and what are they doing ??? creates strategic uncertainty, which causes the strategy makers to over think, and try an encompass every scenario at once. With limited resources, of a smaller military that can be extremely taxing.

@@jakeseward9035 yeah, that's what logic would dictate. military doesn't run on logic a lot of the times. lol Since Enterprise wasn't part of the operation, she'd have just maintained her own designation, apart from the operational designations handed out to the groups taking part. That way, operational people who are monitoring the comms. can easily differentiate between radio chatter between who's taking part, and who's not. That way they know what's priority in cases that need to be relayed. Like the dispatch sent to Reagan to let him know a fast attack boat was heading right for group C.

So fun fact, one of the A-6 missions during the Vietnam war was to go up and intentionally let the SAMS (surface to air missiles) fire on them and get a lock back to the control site. They had to let the missiles track them long enough to get a solid lock so if they shut off the radar they could still hit the control site. So they would attract the missiles, wait for them to track them long enough, then fire their missiles to take out the control site then try and avoid/escape the missiles that are tracking them. A-6 flight teams have nerves of steel.

The US aircraft pilots wanting to put their years of training/practice/deployments to use. You don't get to be a jet combat pilot without a bit of bravado. A friend who was a Marine described the itch to be active like this: He was never deployed to active combat and was glad for it. But it is like showing up to every practice and training for 6 months to then spend 3.5 years sitting on the bench at every game. Rainy days, sunny days. Hot days and cold days. "Come on coach, put me in." A large part of you wants it. You want to get into the game. The game in this case being combat, but it is your first years and career as an independent adult, out of high school usually. You just want it. Pilots are older with longer training so probably 20-26 instead of 18-22. Probably have the same urge however. Why the UN has a veto and enforcement of international law: As to what would happen with War Crimes if the ICJ or other international body made some ruling. Who will enforce it. What countries military force would do it. The UN security council is how it is with the 5 vetos for this reason. If a country wanted to enforce something militarily against the British, Chinese, French, Russian(USSR pre-1991) or Americans it would need to be one of the other major powers, especially in 1945 when the UN was set up and those were the remaining great powers. So it is better to give a diplomatic way to say no, than just military posturing or war. The league of Nations failed at the start of World War 2 because no great power wanted to check Japan, and when the nations voted against Japan, Japan just gave the middle finger and left the League in 1933. This closed off paths of diplomatic discussion. The other majors powers didn't want to go to war over the issue and the US was not a part of the League, even though it proposed its creation in the aftermath of WW1. The US had turned isolationist after an election cycle in the time it took for the League to be set up. So when the UN was created, the people setting it up realized that if the major powers weren't willing to use force against each other to enforce a ruling, they gave each of those major powers a veto and the security council permanent seat. This allows the UN to not have it's authority undermined by having it's rulings ignored. The Security council veto keeps diplomacy on the table. It's a flawed system but it has lasted nearly 100 years, the League of nations lasted from 1920-1936, with Japan leaving in 1933.

Modern naval vessels have rather thin hulls. The main reason for this is because of anti-ship missiles that are designed to penetrate armor (a lot of Soviet-bloc anti-ship missiles were designed to kill Iowa-class battleships that have 30.1 cm of hardened steel armor) and since making a ship carry enough armor to resist modern weapons would make the ship way too large, heavy, and expensive to be useful, everyone pretty much gave up on trying to make ships carry armor and instead focus on trying to decoy, jam, or shoot down incoming missiles (or destroy the vehicles carrying those missiles first).

Two interesting comments came out of this reaction video. First off saying Iran was brave for causing an American military ship to suffer damage at their hands. That in all cases of this story did not make them one iota brave. All it did was show the stupidity of their leaders and the actions that followed their aggression. The other comment was about how the Russian navy must be stronger than the U S A's. Just because a country is perceived as larger does not mean it is better or stronger. The Russians have struggled since WW II to catch up with U S technology and have always been behind when it comes to military strength and know how. The only thing they have succeeded in is to bring nuclear power to an impasse of being equally capable of destroying one another. The point of this story is that doing stupid things gets you stupid results, (in Iran;s case).
