Garbage video? This is the most beautifully tragic and raw video I've ever watched, not to mention the fact that it is so skillfully directed and edited. It shows this small community of people, all having these inappropriate sexual fantasies about that girl, thinking they own her. When she creates her own sacrilegious relationship in reality, they feel betrayed and they burn her alive, next to her lover's dead body, blinded by their lust, their jealousy and their weaknesses. True masterpiece.

Theory: None of the sex scenes shown in this video actually happened. The scenes were just the secret sexual fantasies these various townsfolk had about her in their own minds. Yet despite her having nothing to do with it and probably having no idea these people even wanted her, they privately hated and blamed HER for their own lust for her. Either because they knew she would never be with them, as represented by the disinterest or outright contempt on her face during the sex scenes. Or because the very attraction they felt for her was a source of shame to them, as in the woman being ashamed of her secret lesbianism/bisexuality. What *actually* happened was, she married her husband in the church, and some time later she was caught cheating on him with the guy in the mask. The towns elders, enraged at her "sacrilege", decided to burn her at the stake as punishment. In so doing, they subconsciously hoped to purge themselves of their own lusts, and/or get revenge on her for being unobtainable by them. The video represents the dangers of mob justice or cancel culture. How the people pointing fingers and demonizing someone else are usually far more corrupt than their scapegoat.

I noticed, the preacher is the guy who the townsfolk masked, chased and shot. The girl escaped out of the back of the house to no avail because she ends up tied to a stake and being burnt with her dead lover/preacher. So the mob mentality was that her act of sex with the preacher was "sacrilegious" maybe? Even though they all engaged in the same behavior? I'd love to hear Karen O's take on it. This video is still so amazing. It's like they are all so HYPED at the "end" literally because she died for their sins- they all felt guilty for having sex with a married woman and felt like murdering her for having sex with the preist vindicated them... but also they are mad because she had sex with another besides them but also they're upset a person they loved died. The priest is possibly the most pure of any of them, he is young and who knows if he was a virgin or not- just speculation on my part but you get the idea. Originally I thought he was tranquilized but no, that's a shot gun and he's dead being burned at the stake with her. Don't cheat, but also don't slut shame. I like how this video shows the different facets of this girls personality came out with her different partners.

So we got two camps here, philosophy-wise, on this video: 1.) the girl is the town slut, i.e., the video is meant to be taken literally or 2.) we got a village full of perverts looking at a beautiful girl on her wedding day and fantasizing the rest in their dirty, violent minds. I'm in the second camp. Not to write a dissertation on the subject, but a couple things. First, if it's supposed to be "real," where is her husband in all this? He shows up in exactly one scene, their actual wedding. Wouldn't he have some part in the events of the story if it was actually happening? I think so. Second is the peculiar way in which the girl appears different in each of the fantasies, from her clothes to her behavior, as though each of the people fantasizing was shaping her according to their own whims. Last, the video is meant to be read backwards, as we travel in the imaginations of the wedding guests. We are intended to guess that the girl is new to the neighborhood, i.e., she's marrying in. In their first look at her, they see she's beautiful. They jump right to the obvious conclusion - that everyone in the town would desire her and it'd lead to chaos, in this case, mob justice. Each of them understands what small town life is like, and how secrets are virtually impossible, and how violence perpetuates itself there. Hence we get the imaginary burning at the very beginning, only after which each villager imagines their own specifics about how she got there. But the only "real" event is the wedding.
