This is the first time I ever saw this video. I don't know what you did or how you worked out everything for them but I can't tell you enough how much I love the video. What I have is just about as bad and I cried with her. I am so happy that you could do that for her and him of course. I wish there was someone like you around here. You are one wonderful wonderful person and have an awesome family. I can't say enough about what I think of you and how much I love you and your family. You are one of the kindest most thoughtful men I think I've ever seen. Your friends are awesome and what a big help. You are one blessed man. I can't wait to see you guys in your own house. Thank you for sharing everything

I think the single most important thing (after treating this sweet couple well, without judgment or condescension) that Alex and Melissa chose to do was to decorate and move things around a bit and make everything look nice and clean and cozy. Putting down the rug, moving the shelves into the living room and making a nook for the table and chairs with a picture, staging things to feel comfy and look pretty made all the difference, I’m sure, to how they felt when they came through the door. Imagine the impact of walking into just the bare spaces as they were without that step. I think there would have been more a feeling of loss and mourning for the things that filled that space. Instead, they walked into a space that offered a whole new life! It gave her the ability to say she can look to the future. Bless this sweet couple. And bless Alex and Melissa, Hans and Zenovia, and Josh.

This was my mom at the end. It was so hard to wrap my head around the hoarder tendencies. I finally got a few answers. She grew up with nothing and we grew up with nothing. She wasn't about to die with nothing. People sometimes replace what they can't cope with by introducing large amounts of objects. The bank foreclosed on her home before we could get it started getting out. My heart goes out to this amazing couple who recognized there was a problem. Thank you for helping them!

Unless he didn't show it they did really well keeping the house as sanitary as they did with a cat in there all those years, and an old one at that.

I agree. You could hear the grief as her voice cracked. All of us who have lost a cherished pet, felt her pain. It made my heart sad. Hopefully with this new life they will have a new fur baby.

Hearing that the cat recently crossed the bridge made me understand their willingness to change. After my 19 year old went, I completely redid the living room she had destroyed (furniture, carpet, paint, baseboards, curtains...you name it). You miss them, but it can be a time of rebirth.

Alex, you are humble, generous, honorable and selfless. You told them that Hans put in a new faucet and plumbing for them. What you didn't say is that it was your idea and you paid for the materials. Hans had the skills to install it, but you gave him all the credit. Big BIG thumbs up on this installment and the whole project! I anticipated a frail, elderly couple but they look younger than me. May they enjoy many happy years in their lovely home. XOXO from Missouri.

What a wonderful and lovely couple! If you are reading this, thank you so much for letting Alex film you coming home and your reactions, it was so moving to see and I’m so very happy for you both. Also, when my father passed away we found a situation similar to yours. I’m starting to think it unfortunately isn’t at all uncommon, life and stuff gets overwhelming for SO many folks and you two are so brave to have let someone know and asked for help. I wish my dad hadn’t felt the shame he must have felt and asked for it too... Hopefully this will inspire someone else to do the same. Thank you again for being willing to share this experience with us via Alex and Melissa. Hoping you’ll have a great summer in your house and garden and many well wishes from me, over here in Sweden, to you. ☀️🏡 🌷🌷🌷

Eira, not too long ago I found out my great great grandpa was from Sweden. No one had a clue. But that explains a few things like reddish hair and bigger teeth. I had to dig up really old photos to find unaltered teeth. So the Swedish gene pool is still contributing!!
@eirakarlsson11943 жыл бұрын
@@lynnmaupin-simpson1215 Hahaha, I didn’t know big teeth was a Swedish characteristic but I myself do have HUGE front teeth (or had, I’ve had them filed down a bit)! 😆😆😆 My reddish hair is from a box, though. 😂🌷

Eira, my grandmother immigrated to the US from Skara, Sweden around 1915. She had 6 or 7 siblings, so I must have oodles of second cousins in Sweden They were Anderssons and Andersdaughters. Years ago, my mom got a list of her aunts and uncles from, I believe, the church in Skara. I and my daughters' suspect they were Geats. Just not sure about that.

My mom who is 94, is not a hoarder but each time we try to help her just go through stuff she gets worried saying. Sometimes you can get rid of too much stuff! I think it has to do with the era she grew up in and how hard they worked for even the smallest life improvements. I'm so glad you left it a livable home for them and I hope they don't regret their decision to get rid of so much so fast. You are an awesome guy Alex, you show your kindness in every single thing you do and say.
@jefletch23 жыл бұрын
yes you are correct about this... I'm 74 and had to get rid of the depression-era-saving-stuff mentality I grew up with... what a relief to realize it and be free ... the sentimentality aspect is something else though; I have learned sentimental things are a replacement for experiencing real life in the present (hard lesson but so freeing ) ... it's all about mind-set and gratitude for every present moment

Vicki imagine that you are walking with a cane and someone comes into your house and wants to remove things or extras. I have done that and now when family offers to come into my home to "help" me I refuse. It is my stuff, when no one comes by for weeks on end I still have my stuff. I know that to move to a smaller place I will need to downsize but I am not ready yet. This may be your mom, she may be 94 but her head says she's younger and she is not ready for that next downsize step. And to family quit with the gifts, take us out, give us flowers or specialty foods to eat, a donation to the Sally Ann in our name but we do not need more stuff coming into the house. There are only so many slippers or sweaters we can wear.

@@jefletch2 *oh yes, very much depression-era mind. very much. my grandparents, who were born in the first quarter of the 20th century, had a small grocery store in their basement. but more than this is that we live in a world where so very much is available to us. manufacturing has provided opportunities for creators to create! and there have been so many wonderful inventions and creations, and it's been a lot of fun setting our eyes on all the awe. :D* *i'm sitting here today, watching this video and reading all the comments. it's a wonderful sunday. right as i began reading comments a thunder started to roll, and the sky fell shadowy and gray. the rain is washing down, and i was reminded of a brilliant song, everything must change by oleta adams. i'm listening again for the 4th time. i've cried a whole bunch of times, but in the most content way.* *this couple, with alex's leadership and his excellent team, have gathered a community of people all over the world to partake in such a beautiful, wonderful mission. i am in absolute AWE of it all. and i have a feeling that after my new arts & crafts projects from amazon arrive today (giddy!), tomorrow is going to be bursting with sun and shine, and my new art will be hung on a wall, and all will be well and fine, just fine.*

Ive watched a lot of hoarder shows, those homes were filthy, with spider webs, mice, rat, roof & water damage, electrical & fire hazards, holes in the walls & floors. Some homes weren’t even salvageable. These folks were the cleanest hoarders I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. Don’t know how they worked their hoard with no filth or damage other than a leaky dish washer to the home. It boggles the mind. This was truly a labor of love for Alex and the team. Fantastic job! I hope these wonderful people have a great hoard free and happy life!

They are so sweet, one never knows how much you can collect over the years!! I have a sister that I have tried so many times to help her out with her hoarding but it’s very hard. I used to hoard but started watching shows about minimalism and started on my way to become one I have thrown away, donate and sell so much stuff you wouldn’t believe! I’m 66 years old and I don’t need to leave any hoarding to nobody. I just keep the most essential stuff. I started 2 years ago and I’m still selling and donating..
