I travel for business - so the “simple” hotels (lol) are my favorite. Hampton Inn is my jam for work. Free fast early breakfast , WiFi , go out to restaurants with the rental - never had a bad room. Ironically enough , only time my reservation was lost was Embassy and DoubleTree was my favorite - but last couple stays a lot of older doubletrees that need a hella lot of TLC. So yes simple - but consistent for a work travel . So yay 🎉

I like the Tru by Hilton brand when traveling with my kids & dog. I also like that they are all new & offer completely remote check-in.

Thanks for another awesome guide to another of the big hotel groups. Have you done IHG Hotels guide yet? I can't find it in the search. If not, I look forward to it whenever (if ever?) it comes around. Always enjoy your content! Overall, what would be your best hotel brand for bang-for-the-buck reasonable hotels that have a wide selection of locations?
@YellowProductions7 ай бұрын
Thanks.. Haven't don't IHG yet. I think the Marriott Springhill Suites is the best brand out there in back for buck reasonable hotels with alot of locations

Nothing wrong with Hilton Garden Inns. The one in Kyoto has a great breakfast buffet, omelet bar, and service. Stayed for a night in Beaufort, SC and was very nice. There’s great value there. Not using my free nights there, but happy to accumulate points there. Agree on the HGI and Hamptons being hit or miss, so just check TripAdvisor reviews.

I stay mostly at Hilton or Marriott while I travel. I have American Express Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant & American Express Hilton Aspire cards, which give me elite status for both hotel conglomerates.

There's a new Conrad in Singapore now. It's the former Regent Hotel. The Hilton on Orchard Lane (originally adj to the Four Seasons) has moved and is in the old giant Mandarin Hotel on Orchard Road

Question: I have enough points at 320k to get 5 days free at a hotel that charges 80k points. Which Hilton would you recommend in the county of LA?

@YellowProductions! Chris, we stayed at a Hilton in Newport Beach / Irvine a few years ago and it was awful. We complained to the manager in person and she advised it is not even a real Hilton but another company that just licensed the Hilton name. Sharing in case you weren’t aware they do that as well.

I disagree with you and many of the commenters on Hampton Inn. I've never been to one I didn't like. Some are rather generic, but they're immaculately clean, the staff is friendly, and have a good variety on the breakfast buffet. Many others (particularly those in city centers) are in converted historic buildings and have unique personalities. I don't see the point of spending hundreds of dollars a night on a hotel. Hampton Inn provides a perfectly nice experience for a decent price.

People should not get carried away with living in the past, though. Hilton has evolved over the years from a respectable consumer friendly brand to a subtly-gouge-the-customer brand. Ask ANY long term employee of a hotel that Hilton has acquired. All will verify this. The worst example is Flamingo. In the past it like all reputable strip casinos knew it was in their best interest to do EVERYTHING to keep customers HAPPY. Mandatory, even to the point of losing money, to keep customers euphoric - and spending. Then Hilton bought them, and that policy was greatly eliminated.

Keep in mind to not have selective memory. This is not the honorable chain that Conrad Hilton built. It's now the plaything of people like Paris Hilton, widely regarded in the entertainment industry as one of the scuzziest individuals of all. I saw all this up close. I had a Hilton Carte Blanche premium credit card decades ago, and saw the deterioration with my own eyes. Ask any long term employee.
