Where are you located? Do you know where I can purchase one?
@ProvidenceMeadow2 жыл бұрын
We are in Southeastern Pennsylvania. As a sanctuary, we do not breed, sell, rehome or foster out our intakes... I always recommend to anyone interested in getting a caique, to do LOTS of research first. Our videos make caiques look cuddly and playful - but that is only one aspect of caiques. They love up to 20+ years, and can be extremely aggressive, territorial, moody and downright dangerous. The reason we only have caiques here is simply that they are typically dangerous to other parrot species - and are known to attack and even kill other parrots - other caiques included. These are wild animals, and must be respected as such.... If after much due diligence, you feel a caique would be a good match, I would say to check with parrot rescues and shelters in your area. I hope that helps!

Hey how do you stop your birds to scream like demons in the mornings?
@tonyconstable51473 жыл бұрын
You can't. All parrots will yell in the morning.

When they are in their cages are they normally kind of quiet? Like I don’t mind some screams but is it constant like 2 hours straight?

Why don't you do a video on care and feeding and looking after them
@ProvidenceMeadow Жыл бұрын
I'll have to think of a good way to do that, while keeping the video under 2 hours!! 😜 There's a LOT to having a and responsibly caring for our avian companions ❤️ We do have several posts on our website about food, cages, perches, etc..... hopefully that will hold you until I can put something together 😊 providencemeadow.org/information-topics?blog=y

Why are some feather plucking? Are they rescued? That is a sign of stress.
@ProvidenceMeadow Жыл бұрын
Hi Jason! All of our caiques except, for Marley and Beebee, are rescues/rehomes. And yes, although plucking is often associated with stress in captive companions, there are many other potential causes as well, such as medical conditions, poor diet, hormonal changes and most often - simply boredom 😕 We have to remember that in the wild, parrots spend the majority of their days actively foraging for food over large areas, building and maintaining nests, caring for offspring and/or flock members and generally being very active. The sad fact is that even though we provide a wonderful and varied diet, the largest cages we can fit, tons of toys and distractions, a space with many of their own species, etc - we just cannot compare with or accurately replicate the wild environment that the are instinctually prepared for...few if any parronts can. 🙁 (one of the many reasons parronts should not be captive companions in the first place) All of our parrots have been vet checked and tested for medical issues by our avian veterinarian. All of our pluckers have had additional blood tests and evaluations specifically looking into their plucking. The caiques that we have who pluck here - Pogo, Tuki, Ricky and Nigel - have all been cleared medically, and I have literally spent years researching options, following medical advice and making small adjustments to their cage setups, diets, who is caged together, trying supplements, etc in an effort to find the causes of each individuals plucking and to resolve them...and we will continue to do so. 🥰

@@ProvidenceMeadow wow. That's for that interesting and detailed reply. I see you take fantastic care of your birds. I keep and breed exotic songbirds (they are never prone to the vice of feather plucking, thankfully). I do have one suggestion to you as an experienced bird keeper of 30 plus years. Those birds that you have that feather pluck (not due to ill health or bad diet) may stop if you pair them up and provide a nest box so they can go through the cycle of breeding. Of course you don't want more babies lol, so simply replace their eggs with dummy eggs. They will brood them and eventually get bored. Allow them 3 clutches and them remove the nest box and change the diet to smaller portions of a basic non breeding diet. The birds then should go through a moult and be fully feathered. During this none breeding period reduce the daylight to less then 12 hours a day and keep the basic diet. It's worth a go and won't do any harm. The problem might well be the birds are in top condition and optimal care means they are stressed as they are unable to breed. Many racing pigeon fanciers change the pigeons diet over the year to either bring birds into breeding condition or 'force' them into a rest and moult period. Indeed us softbill and finch breeders do something similar.
