There are cultures where the bible is predominantly heard. I am Vietnamese and my parents did not have a bible for years. We heard The Word at mass. It wasn’t until the last decade that my dad was able to get a bible in the Vietnamese translation, and it was only because he went to a bible study where it was possible for him to get one. He gave me an extra one, which I will treasure forever. Not having a physical bible to read is not an indicator of how faithful a person is. Every time is see a bible printed in China, I cannot help but think of our brothers and sisters in Christ there. They hear and memorize the bible.

Amen! The Bible is PUBLIC revelation to the entire Church, and most of it was writtent to be proclaimed to the gathered assembly of God's people as they drew near to worship him.

That's right Libby. Catholics have been hearing the Word of God at Mass long before the Bible came out. That's how it was taught and preached and therefore it shall continue to be taught and preached in the same manner.

Yes! The first 1700-1800 years the entire faith was like that. Bibles were too costly and literacy was lower. That is why our Lord said "He who hears you hears Me" Luke 10:16

Kudos, as always! My list: PETER as Shepherd and first Pope: Scriptural evidence and the structure of the primitive Church make it absolutely undeniable that Christ chose Peter and that Peter was first among the twelve. Depending on the translation, Peter is mentioned 195 times. The closest is John (the beloved disciple) at just 29 times. The rest even less. Consider: Jesus entered Peter’s house. (Matthew 8:14) Jesus changed Simon's name to Peter. (John 1:42) Jesus gave Peter the keys to the gates of Heaven. (Matthew 16:19) Jesus declared Peter to the the rock. (Matthew 16:18) Jesus made Peter shepherd. (John 21:15-17) Jesus told Peter to strengthen his brothers (Luke 22:32) Jesus paid the Temple tax only for Himself and Peter. (Matthew 17:24-27) Jesus preached from Peter's boat. (Luke 5:3) Jesus told Peter to "Follow me" (John 21:19) Jesus called only Peter to walk on the water. (Matthew 14:29) Jesus predicted Peter's three-fold denial. (Matthew 26:34) Jesus predicted Peter's repentance and three-fold affirmation. (Luke 22:32) Jesus prophesied only Peter's manner of death. (John 21:18-19) Jesus taught Peter forgiveness 70 times 7 times. (Matthew 18:21-22) Jesus spoke only to Peter at Gethsemane. (Mark 14:37) Peter is always listed first of the Apostles. (Matthew 10:2, Luke 6:14, Acts 1:13) Peter was first to confess Jesus as Messiah. (Matthew 16:18) Peter alone spoke at the Transfiguration. (Matthew 17:4, Mark 9:5, Luke 9:33) Peter pointed out the withered fig tree. (Mark 11:21) Peter entered the tomb first - John deferring to him. (Luke 24:12, John 20:3-4)) Jesus, after resurrecting, appeared FIRST to Peter, then to the twelve. (1 Corinthians 15:5) Peter decided the manner of replacing Judas. (Acts 1:15-26) Peter spoke for the eleven at the Pentecost. (Acts 2:14-36) Peter was released from prison by the Angel. (Acts 12:6-11) Peter spoke for the eleven before the Council. (Acts 4:8-12) Peter held sin bound to Ananias and Sapphira. (Acts 5:1-10) Peter's shadow healed. (Acts 5:15) Peter declared the sin of Simony. (Acts 8:18-23) Peter revealed the salvation of Gentiles to the Church at Jerusalem. (Acts 11:1-18) The Angel told Cornelius to call for Peter. (Acts 10:3-8) The Holy Spirit fell upon the Gentiles as Peter preached to them. (Acts 10:44-45) At the empty tomb, the Angel said, "Go tell His disciples, and Peter." (Mark 16:7) Mary Magdalene ran to tell Peter and the beloved disciple. (John 20:2) The vision of all foods being clean was given only to Peter. (Acts 10:9-16) Peter's words silence the first council in Jerusalem. (Acts 15:7-12) Paul went to Peter to affirm that his Gospel was not in vain. (Galatians 1:18) Peter was given the revelation of the end of the world. (2 Peter 3:10-11) Peter taught that Paul’s words were easily twisted. (2 Peter 3:16) Peter taught that baptism now saves you (1 Peter 3:21) And many other references. One may deny that Peter was primary, but it takes an amazing ignorance or denial of scripture and history to do so.

10:07 This is what happenned in China. When the Protestants began to preach in China the Catholic Church had already been estabiished and it was their teaching which put doubt in all the believers there. The result being that the spread of the Gospel in China slowed because it became clear that the Christians don't agree -so they would say "why should we believe any of you?" My Sister is an Apostate, but she realized this because of the work her denomination was doing in China. She knows.

Make sure the "Catholic" parish is affiliated with the Archdiocese. There are many schismatics on the east coast who claim this or that. As well, doctrinally, they must all be on the same page = "Catholic" = universal. If you smell something funny, talk directly with father for an explanation. It if still smells, contact the bishop's office for clarification. Test the spirits! Have a catechism? Next to the bible, best book on earth.

Non denoms would say they have solved the problem. However, they 'solve it' by devaluing the truths of God and raising the calf of 'essentials' which is never agreed apon and contrary to scripture.

Unity among Christians is possible when all Christian denomination pray the Apostles creed period
@KennyBurchard3 ай бұрын
This is an interesting idea. I have a few thoughts and questions about it: 1. Is there a biblical text that summarizes this view (and includes reference to the Apostles' Creed as the single source of unity?). 2. Is there evidence in history that this creed was what the earliest Christians (say, in Acts and the Epistles, then from AD 70-350) were praying in order to maintain unity? 3. All this to say - does your imperative truly summarize the single element that makes unity possible from what we find in the Bible and in history? Aren't there other things that would be a more biblical basis of unity -- like the Bible texts we discussed here?

Matthew 16 16Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. 17And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. 18And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven. 20Then he commanded his disciples, that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ. Isaiah 22 20And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliacim the son of Helcias, 21And I will clothe him with thy robe, and will strengthen him with thy girdle, and will give thy power into his hand: and he shall be as a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Juda. 22And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder: and he shall open, and none shall shut: and he shall shut, and none shall open. 23And I will fasten him as a peg in a cornerstone, and he shall be for a throne of glory to the house of his father. 24And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, divers kinds of vessels, every little vessel, from the vessels of cups even to every instrument of music. John 21 17He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he had said to him the third time: Lovest thou me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things: thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my sheep. Genesis 45 7And God sent me before, that you may be preserved upon the earth, and may have food to live. 8Not by your counsel was I sent hither, but by the will of God: who hath made me as it were a father to Pharao, and lord of his whold house, and governor in all the land of Egypt. 9Make haste, and go ye up to my father, and say to him: Thus saith thy son Joseph: God hath made me lord of the whole land of Egypt: come down to me, linger not. 10And thou shalt dwell in the land of Gessen: and thou shalt be near me, thou and thy sons, and thy son's sons, thy sheep, and thy gerds, and all things that thou hast. 11And there I will feed thee, (for there are yet five years of famine remaining,) lest both thou perish, and thy house, and all things that thou hast.
