The 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray enters the fray as the first Vette ever to have all-wheel drive and a hybrid powertrain. The E-Ray's 160-hp front-mounted electric motor and 495-hp mid-mounted small-block V-8 combine for 655 horses. Along with the regular Stingray's heart, the hybrid Corvette has the Z06's wide hips and many other interesting technical bits. Carlos Lago explains more.

Sweet, I took my 1990 ZR-1 out this morning and there was about 20 Vettes I met on the road C8s, C7s, C6s, and C5s. Didn't see a C4 but it was cool seeing all of them cruising together, I even got a few waves! 👍👍🏁🏁

There are more differences between Stingray & the Z on the C8 generation than there have been on the past generation base & Z06 models. The differences aren't just limited to the wider body, aero, & spoiler. The front end & grill opening, side scoops, the vents under the taillights, the shape of the area where the rear license plate is, & where the exhaust exits/rear valence panel are all different.

The crazy thing is, this is the first ever production AWD Corvette and the Vette is 70 years old, all Chevy (and GM) did was to make the Corvette a year sports car now, and to think there are even more powerful versions still to come, hats off to the Corvette Team and I can't wait to see what else they have planned

Big thing here is the ERay comes standard with the carbon ceramic brakes whereas you have to get the Z07 package and shoots up the price on the Z06. That paired with AWD is a pretty big selling point depending on what you would use it for.

One of the great things about the C8 is there is no doubt that it’s a Corvette. The E-Ray is probably a more useful everyday car than the amazing Z06, which I’m dying to see it’s VIR lap time. And then there is the up coming ZR1 and the ultimate E-Ray, the Zora, which might on the verge of insanity. If I’m able to actually get in and out of the C8 I’ll trade Mt CTS-V in for either the ZR-1 or Zora.

The brake comb is particularly interesting. The standard brakes are pretty good, and you'd think the electric motor could handle the additional stopping power needed. Especially since the weight gain looks minimal. Maybe it's a precautionary upgrade.

I found it interesting that the E-Ray uses the Stingray's engine and not the Z06 one, hmm very intriguing. The Grand Sport will also use the Stingray motor, so unless the ZR-1 gets it, the Z06 will be the only C8 using the Flat plane engine. 🤔

This is the C8 Corvette as a GT it should be fast enough and entertaining enough for most people to drive and it has an all-wheel-drive system I feel like there's a lesson here for the recently discontinued NSX as at least the gasoline engine in the Corvette is naturally aspirated where I feel a screamer V6 should have been what the NSX had and the turbo chargers removed it just a little bit more from its roots

Yeah, that's real similar to the 6.2 liter V8 in the Corvette Stingray & now the E-Ray or the 5.5 liter flat-plane crank V8 in the C8 Z06.
