This is like finding all your toys as a kid and being that kid for a day. Goodness, I listened to and still do, this 3 album brilliance over and over again as a teen in my parents basement. Know every nuance, lead, sound, break, solo, drum fill, vocal gymnastics, harmony, shouts from the crowd, Chris’s vocals and harmonies OR at least I thought I did until this came along. It’s like Jon is singing in my ears to me only. Thank you Mr. Hartley

its really really good. i just finished it here in the kitchen on a monday mid day and I am having all kinds of feelings. I used to sit in my parents room during summer vacation at age 10 in phoenix when it was too hot to go outside and blast all 3 albums while disappearing into the Deanscape world with my imagination. This remaster brought me back there to that place again.. I may restart it now

Incredible! So well done! I also know the original release note by note, having listening to it 1000s of times. In this remaster each instrument and vocal is so clearly heard, while maintaining/at times improving the mix level and balance of the original! This is by far the best remaster of any release by any artist I have ever heard.

I think this re working of the original has been a huge success and much credit must go to the compositor for making this available to all. I have started at part one. Who was to know this was a peak.

It's too bad there aren't any videos that I'm aware of showing Squire doing this solo. On this particular night he performed one of the greatest bass solos of all time. Bass purists get cranky, but he was still playing an instrument with four strings and pushing the boundaries on what you could do with it. Also, Bruford s drumming was so perfect in how he enhanced and complimented Squire without trying to compete with him. He never matched the dynamics, direction and fluidity with white. To me, his solos with white came across as just stuff patched together with none ever having that specialness he achieved on Yessongs with Bruford.
@ianhartley2158 Жыл бұрын
Have to agree with you on the Fish version here. Never been bettered imo. That said I still believe Alan White took Yes to another plain (RIP)
@genestippell1833 Жыл бұрын
@@ianhartley2158 I completely agree with you on Alan White. In fact I heard someone once say yes had gone as far as they could with bruford who by that time was better fitted for King crimson. Then I thought about it and said he's right . White just joined yes right before yessongs and is style just made them outright powerhouse. He brought an energy and in aggressiveness that bruford didn't have. I was listening to your remix of Siberian khatru from yessongs and squire and white just kill it.

@@ianhartley2158 For me, this version of Starship Trouper is best version they ever did. Squires solo closely followed the original Yes album version and is musically perfect in terms of building the tension and anticipation of both Rick and Steve's "Solos". Rick's Moog solo is around 40 seconds of pure genius, followed by in my opinion Steve's best guitar solo. Later versions expanded the outro, but for me were never as good as this version musically. And for me, this whole album has been given a new lease of life with this remix which has added so much clarity to the performance that was buried within the original mix. In many ways, the listener can feel closer to the band than was ever possible with the original recording. Ian, thanks for all of your efforts.

@theboofin Wakeman really ruined that. No wonder they cut him out of the record version.
@davidperry712810 ай бұрын
@theboofin except for the authenticity angle the reintroduction of the cut pieces probably detracts from the song.

Not only am I very pleased (yea, ecstatic!) on listening to the overall originals to the album version in which much of the instrumentation and vocalization was muddled and got "lost-in-the-mix" yet now is practically crystal-clear, but also hearing the snippets which were edited out and left on the studio floor, probably due to time limitations for the released recording. Much obliged 2U4 this presentation.
