YES - YESSONGS at 50 - CLOSE TO THE EDGE - 2023 REMASTER

This one track sold me on Yes at the tender age of 15. It has been said before and it will be said again - how on earth did they pull it off live like this? To a man the playing is sublime. Hope the remaster sounds a bit clearer too.

In 1974 a friend of mine pulled this record from his brothers collection so I could see the art work, he played the beginning of this song for me, I was spellbound. The next week I bought the album and the first track I played was this song, it is still my favorite. Thank you for this amazing work you are doing remastering my favorite Yes album.

The song that started it all for me, CTTE, probably 1976. Haven't gotten over Yes yet!

Saw this '73 concert at Maple Leaf Gardens ( with the mirror ball showering the whole place with points of light ) ---- could not believe how great they sounded ! To this day it is my favorite concert of all time . Your remaster sounds great ---kudos ! I was 25 in '73.

100% Saw them in Louisville in 1972. I remember the lights hitting the fog on stage & it looked like raindrops. That & Rick’s long blonde hair whipping around as he switched keyboards. I watch the Yessong videos now and it’s 50 years ago.

Saw them at Maple Leaf Gardens in July of 1975 with Moraz on keyboards. Couldn't help being disappointed. The sound was muddy and too loud, it was hotter than hell and Moraz just didn't seem to fit in. His solo section was boring and I remember lots of people getting up from their seats to get something to eat or drink while other people started talking and showing no interest. I remember how Anderson started 'Sound Chaser' way off key and how the band rushed through 'And You and I' at almost double the tempo and Moraz's lousy solo during 'Close to the Edge'.

Great remaster! This was my first YES tour. No matter how many other great performances to come the band here at this time had unmatched intense youthful raw energy that could only have come from the excitement of performing this live to an audience for the first time! The entire album exudes with the intense power of a band newly energized

Just amazing, really. Imagine you'd bought and got into CTTE the album and then gone along to this gig... not just the energy that Alan gives it (which is fantastic), but the adrenaline and drive of everyone else:.. you'd have been blown away. You'd have been blown away even if you didn't know the track: look at your watch: is it really 18mins later? And of course you'd have been blown away (listen to that innocent 1973 crowd) by a glitterball at the beginning. Bless.

I believe you should’ve borrowed the pipe organ solo from the October 31st 1972 Maple Leaf Gardens concert. The band is perfectly in sync with the pipe organ track.

I appreciate anyone taking the time to give classic Yes a fresh look! I must say though, it is difficult for me to hear much difference between this and the original Yessongs cut. What aspects of the sound mix did u change? I don’t mean this to sound negative, it’s just hard for me to hear the difference with my ears. Thanks!

Thank you so much for the comments. The details as to exactly what was done are with the engineer but each track had individual attention. Obviously without access to the multitrack master tapes the work was done using the Japanese SHMCD version. As it was from the Rainbow show (the intro talk was inserted from another show) it was never re-released in better sound like the Progeny tracks. We feel there is definitely some improvement in the overall cleanness of it but it is possibly one of the less dramatic of the remasters. It may be one we'll return to again in the future.

@@matycee you're a bonehead, but the O/P was honest, and so was I. Having heard countless other studio & remastered versions of the song in question made me pretty comfortable to issue my opinion. It sounded like an SD recording, perhaps you can't tell? Keep Yes alive!
