What a great video. I bought plans for the Tillamook and build the frames. Then after pausing the build to do alot of kayak fishing with and without trolling motors this year i quickly realize that was the boat i thought looked cool but not the boat for me. So i bought the bayou jubilee plans and am almost done with the frames. Thanks for the video!

Thank you Jeff for the great advice. Looking through your website is like being in a candy store and trying to decide which special confection do you want. Definitely need to follow your advice and decide what I want to do or just build a whole bunch of boats.

I would still love to see a video on the Matagorda. Been looking at it for years now with ideas about high sided with a landing craft bow ramp.

Not gonna lie.... I've thought about emailing with the same question. I primarily spend time in freshwater, but the lake I fish is quite large, with wide open wind exposure.... I've seen legit 6 and 7 ft waves come up out of nowhere. Center console bay boats are quite popular around here so was considering a panga build for it. Looks like that may be the best choice.

Ah, you mean where you boat the water gets choppy?
@shabadabadoo43264 жыл бұрын
@@tjkid07 If you call an inland lake folding boats in half choppy... then yeah ;)

Building a boat makes seasoned sailors ask new questions. New boaters with no or little water experoence would get the best education in a very small boat used within their ability to swim to shore. & 99% of Navy veterans know absolutely nothing about boating, no offense but how many people "drive" an aircraft carrier? And how is driving an aegis cruiser similar to operating a 17ft dory? Its not. Compartment firefighting training is completely useless for operating a small open boat. The most expensive part of boating can be the storage fees! Here in south Florida, if you don't live on the water or can't park your boat in the backyard or garage, dry storage generally starts over $200/month (yes I've found cheaper $50/mo if one is willing to drive 45 minutes to get the boat and another 45 minutes to get to the ramp while only having access monday - Friday 8am -6pm & weekends 9-4, but not on holiday's or a private individual whose going to freak out the first time you show up (or return) at 3 or 4 in the am... BTW some waterfront communities have pretty docks with no boats because home owners association tend to ban boats because fishermen tend to crank up the engine at 4am to catch the dawn tides & bite... When i lived in the keys I got used to it like a train schedule... It always amazes me how people who hate boats love waterfront property!

Thank you for this, it's a dream of mine to own a boat to cross to the Scilly Isles from the South coast of the UK. With your help and information I could make a dream come true.

Where do the Garvey Dory's fall in line with static stability? Are they up there with the pacific power dory?
@tjkid074 жыл бұрын
Yes, the bottom is the same as the Pacific Power dories, but they're even stiffer as they tip from the wider bow.
I see lots of people building your boats with pine. Is there any benefit to building with a more rot resistant wood like cedar or cypress? Is it worth the extra expense?
@tjkid074 жыл бұрын
It all depends on your maintenance regimen. If you neglect them, they'll last a bit longer if built with better material. If you maintain them well, the lower cost materials, like pine will last a lifetime. A better question is: "How well will you take care of and maintain your boat?"

I guess I want all of that good stuff in a boat. Now I need to convince wife I need 4 boats.
