Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

Deep fried rose petals... cool 😂. So... how many roses do I have to go and purchase, in order to murder them for science? Mine won't be blooming for months, yet 😉. Can't wait to see what we make. I'm dying to try and make a face serum.

Oh right I didn’t talk about that - I’ll make sure to do so tomorrow. I used three fresh roses per 16oz of everything that I did. Honestly because it’s an infusion, you can use way more and just keep adding the botanical matter to the oil as you use it or see fit. And in the case of rose, I think we would need to use a lot more than what I did to make a significant difference to the carrier oil. Remember when we did the dried rose petals in the lye water? I used 1/2 cup of dried rose petals in 18oz of lye solution and THAT soap was freaking epic with all the oil that was extracted, in addition to the rose water. And buying roses right now SUCKS - I bought a dozen for Mr’s bday yesterday and a bouquet that would cost me $20 in January was $50 in February. 😅

If you were on an episode of 'chopped', you'd be a hero for those deep fried rose petal and cocoa extraction for being so creative. It would make a luxurious ice cream. I LOVE this educational video. I can't wait to try this with roses and rosemary. THANKS!

Love this video, love what you said about the Rose scents. I didn’t realize before starting to work with essential oils and fragrance oils that I had a hangup on certain scents that I inherited from my mother. She wasn’t a fan of Jasmine so I tend to overlook Jasmin since, and when it comes to roses, she associated roses with funerals so I tend to ignore Rose senses. I need to be more adventurous. Thanks for opening up my old olfactory to new things.

I love your screw-ups….don’t stop your methods because you have a soap sister here, because I am usually thinking about doing exactly what you are doing. I am proud of you. Damn the nay -sayers…..they aren’t paying for your raw materials. I just love the things you try, because raw materials are very expensive. Tell to put it where the sun don’t shine.

@Mothermoonartisansoap I suppose it depends on what you’re making. If you’re making a bath bomb and including this cocoa butter, then the cocoa and rose both fall well below the amounts of baking soda, etc. If you’re making a soap or lotion that has high amounts of the infusion you’ve used, then it would fall higher than your scent or colorants or the like.

Lol looks like you deep fried those rose petals! Are they edible or poisonous hmm 😄. Gotta wait until spring when my roses bloom. OT I was watching someone on IG, I want to say Sara Beeny, talk about how to prune rose bushes.

When roses are out of season where I am, I order organic dried rose petals online. I’ve always used dried when I extract anything in oils, I figure I don’t want moisture fighting with the oils in it. That’s why I asked why the fresh roses? Am I missing something?

Are there a lot of mean people commenting on your videos? I’ve not seen any, but I’m relatively new. I did get attacked for one comment I made on one of your videos but I thought it was hilarious because she turned around and did the very thing she was accusing me of doing lol 😂 I thought it was a riot! That’s probably because you are such an intelligent woman who knows so much about these things. Mean people can’t resist trying to knock someone down to their level of misery when they see someone doing so well and being so happy like you are. That’s why I really feel sorry for them. They must be truly sad people who spread that kind of misery around like that. I think you’re awesome! Don’t let them get to you ❤️

To clarify, if using for herbalism or specific medicinal properties, extracts are not the same as essential oils which need to be diluted properly in a carrier oil :)
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 2 ай бұрын
Hey! Technically essential oils and extracts are not the same thing at all, as we created these extracts within a carrier. Do they contain the extractable components found within rose? Yes. Diluted.
@Romantico1962

We dont have a degree in science, but i go by common sense. If we fry the roses, you are not getting anything benefits at all, not even the fragrance, so to do that right, you have to be gentle with the process so adding few petals with oils and then extract the oil just like that is the same as not getting anything, you must leave the petals with the oils for weeks or month to get the benefits of the flowers or herbs. In my opinion, i respect what you are doing wrong or right, but I am learning and watching videos of people who have years doing infusion, essential oils, and all that the right way.

Hey! I mean, that’s awesome. I don’t think the burnt petals were good; I like showing my fails to people so they don’t do the same or they can have a giggle. That said, I looked up cooked rose petals and apparently they’re edible and nutritional benefits exist after high heat. So there is that.
