The song was apparently composed by the Kabbalists of the seventeenth century and is said on coming home from synagogue on Friday night, t=which is when the Sabbath begins. It was inspired by a passage in the Talmud which teaches that two ministering angels escort a person home from the synagogue on Friday night.

this is a song that's sung at the beginning of every Friday night Shabbat meal, before the blessing on the wine. Every observant Jewish child knows these words by the age of 5 or 6. Translation: Peace be unto you, guardian angels, angels from on high, From the king, the king of kings, the holy one, blessed be he. Come in peace, angels of peace, angels from on high From the king, the king of kings, the holy one, blessed be he. Bless me in peace, angels of peace, angels from on high From the king, the king of kings, the holy one, blessed be he. Yes, singing and choirs are probably more common in Orthodox Jewish circles compared to the general population, as many/most of these boys wouldn't join sports leagues and other extracurriculars that would either have events on Fridays/Saturdays or mixed genders, etc. In addition, many families choose to limit or completely restrict access to media like movies, television, and even video games, so the kids need to fill their time with something else. On top of that, there is a lot of emphasis during prayers and other religious observances on music/singing, so it's something the kids are frequently exposed to. All that to say, it's not unusual for a significant percentage of school kids to be interested in joining choirs 😊 And, as mentioned by another commenter, most Orthodox women/girls won't sing in front of men/boys for religious reasons, so while they also often DO have choirs and performances, they're restricted to female audiences and normally are *not* posted on public platforms like KZbin. Great review!

I must tell you something very special in the ultra-orthodox Jewish society. The students' teacher is like the father, he examines everything. A student, talks to him personally if necessary, gives a reward for achievements, and sometimes when the child tends to be disruptive, then the teacher tells him if you behave well today you will get a reward, and I have seen for myself that sometimes a child asks to come sleep at the teacher's house (who of course has a wife and children) so the rabbi who teaches the The children sing that he is much more than father, and they love him.

Hey, just found your channel and glad that I did. You asked for a translation, so here's that and some context: This is a text that's sung or recited at the beginning of the Friday night Shabbos (Sabbath) meal. (The Sabbath begins on Friday before sunset and concludes on Saturday after nightfall.) Our tradition tells us that there are special angels who visit the home on the Sabbath and this song is to welcome them. "Sholom Aleichem" is a traditional greeting in Hebrew and it means "peace be upon you". There are 4 verses, each sung 3 times, and the only difference between them is in the first couple words of each. The word for "angel" in Hebrew literally means "messenger" or "emissary", and in the translation below I change that up a bit depending on the context. The Hebrew word is the same. Peace be upon you, ministering angels, messengers from Above (or "from the Most High"), from the King of kings of kings, the Holy One, blessed be He. Your coming is for peace, ministering angels... Bless me for peace, ministering angels... Your departure is for peace, ministering angels... We conclude with 2 verses from the Psalms, 91:11 "For He shall command His angels to you, to guard you in all your ways" and 121:8 "The L-rd will guard your going and your coming, from now and forever". This is a kind of disclaimer, since Jews are not allowed to pray to angels, that we are not actually petitioning His angels and are acknowledging that the blessing and protection comes from G-d alone, though perhaps through His angels.

Translation: Welcome, angels of peace, angels of the High One, From the King of the Kings of Kings, the Holy one, Blessed He. Come in peace, angels of peace, angels of the High One, From the King of the Kings of Kings, the Holy one, Blessed He. Bless me with peace, angels of peace, angels of the High One, From the King of the Kings of Kings, the Holy one, Blessed He. Go away in peace, angels of peace, angels of the High One, From the King of the Kings of Kings, the Holy one, Blessed He. The song is sung every Friday night (Shabbat evening) before the meal, in basically every Jewish household. These kids knew the words long before they touched that specific tune. As to your pronunciation, well done on pronouncing the 'ch'. It sounds good. Only thing to note is that if you were pronouncing this in modern Israeli Hebrew (the version I speak) your emphasis would be wrong. It would be Yeshiva DarCHEI toRAH. This is not an error, just something to note to make it sound more natural.

Your pronunciation of their name was spot on, the name of the song... not as much - "aleichem" would be more "ah-leh-khem" with the "leh" possibly getting a little bit of a Y sound. BTW, if you're really enjoying this, you should check out L'cha or Yehei by The Chevra, a "boy band" that was formed by the same producer who is behind Yeshiva Boys Choir. (also, there are a few really awesome Jewish Acapella groups you might enjoy like Maccabeats, Six13, and A.K.A. Pella)

I would like to ask you (or anyone who understands the subject), when I was a kid, My school is doing some kind of auditions, for a small group of choir, After each was individually selected, there was another audition session, But it was like this: all the contestants were present in the room, when the examiner randomly(!) chose a group of children and simply said, sing!, So as a child I had to connect within a second - at least vocally - and know my role within the small chosen choir, Like me, I could see from the faces that other children felt the same way, I would like to ask you, as a singing teacher, If it was the right thing to do, and if so what is behind it?
@nickhiggsthesinger
@nickhiggsthesinger Жыл бұрын
That’s interesting. I’ve never had an audition like that. It’s probably a combination of things: to see how well individuals respond to other singers, how good their tuning is, how they do under pressure, and also to use some kids as motivators for others. When you see others in the room going for the same spot as you, it lights a fire!
