The clip was taken from the semi-final of the Super Cup, which was played in the UAE. The UAE has worse attendance compared to Saudi Arabia. However, when you check the attendance for the other two games in the Super Cup, it's a lot more respectable. The main problem with the Saudi league is that the top four teams receive all the attention from the public, while the rest of the teams receive none. This makes the league extremely top-heavy, resulting in people only attending matches between the top four teams. To improve the Saudi league, it must prioritize the development and support of all teams beyond the top four. By investing in the infrastructure, resources, and talent of the remaining teams, the league can foster a more competitive environment and attract a wider fan base. This would create a sustainable football culture that encourages fans to attend games that don’t feature the top four.

Imma ruin your day because there are two large reasons as to why the stadium is empty for this match. This match was played in Abu Dhabi, not Saudi, and it took place right before Eid. But the major reason as to why its empty was that, also in Abu Dhabi, at the same time, was the semifinal match between Al-Nassr (Ronaldo, Mane etc) and Al-Hilal (Currently on the world record winning streak) and that game was sold out. The final between Al Ittihad and Al Hilal was also sold out so Benzy did get a full stadium to be humiliated 4-1

7:00 I have a few things to say here: 1. Persumably there is no "Board" meeting. 2. Like you pointed out, they have been successful with (Golf; dunno bout that), F1 and WWE coming to their country. But football is different gravy - and works differently to the other sports mentioned. They go directly into the cities if Riyadh or Jeddah - where the people are, where people might go out for a night and buy a ticket on a whimper. While football clubs are localised in culture and national in driving distance. But the money the saudis invested into the WWE contract or the building/upkeeping the street race for years can me measured in CR7 yearly salaries. To build Jeddah for F1 is costed between 2 and 3 yearly CR7 salaries, yearly upkeep is easily another one, to get wwe there it costs about 4 yearly CR7 salaries. But thats the thing, remodeling cities and making global media juggernauts come to you or paying ONE of eleven (seventeen if were overly correct) people of ONE of your dozen teams - one of that is a bad financial decision. Also the utter state if disinterest of Saudis for its league is somewhat surprising.

I agree with you fully. I never understood how they were gonna try to turn this into a top league without having a massive football culture. Do they want to pay each player of each team 2-3x the salary compared to the EPL clubs just so they can fill the spots with the best teams? Then pump insane amounts into marketing to build up international followings? It's not realistic. They may be able to establish a decent league with older stars and some selected players in their peak but that's not enough to become a global league brand.

That's nothing new really. The Saudi Pro League has an (artificially boosted by the Top 4) average attendance of ~8.4k people. That's fewer people than the 3rd divisions of Germany or England (both 9k+). There's games in the SPL with fewer than 1000 people in the stands, even though the stadiums are more than capable of fitting a lot more people inside.

Then it’s just poor planning on the part of the Saudi League. They organize the match schedule and where the cups are held. People see the Saudi league as a laughingstock and organizing games that they knew ahead of time no fans would be able to go to is not helping.

The MLS may not be so big and soccer so popular in the US, but still, it's not like you're watching a sport mandated by the regime to sportwash human rights violations. Cmon

7:39 you need to get off KZbin and get back on the pitch bro plain and simple. An American Highschool is more legit then a Saudi Pro league. Go play in the 2nd Bundesliga or something

I would not defend the Saudis over anything, but then again I was in the South Tower on 9/11 and remember who planned, financed and provided the vast majority of Terrorists that day. What ever happened to “never forget”?

Zealand, I don’t want to use the word ignorant here, but you kinda are here. First this is not is Saudi Arabia, it is in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Second I agree there are problems with the Saudi league, but not having a fan culture is not one of them. I think the main problem is that the support is mainly for the 4 big teams ( Alahli-Alhilal-Alnassar-Alitihad), and not focusing on the other teams or the other league tiers. Just to clarify I don’t think you are doing this intentionally, but it is annoying. 👍

Saudi Arabia is a massive country; they have the population to fill stadiums if the league was run correctly. But it’s been run terribly, and that’s the root cause. Why would they host the “Saudi Super Cup” in another country? It’s insane. But even then, when they hosted the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, which is much further from Spain than the UAE is from Saudi, thousands and thousands of fans flew out. Well-run clubs organize ways to get their fans to far away games. Clearly Saudi Arabia did not do the same thing here. It’s just mismanagement.

Hallo! I'm a journalist for the club I support, Cork City FC, 2nd tier Irish football. 3.5k people at most of our home matches, i heard saudi league gets a few hundred at the small club games. By that logic, Irish second tier is a healthier league than Saudi. Cmon the rebels 🔴🟢
