@unclegumbald9894 жыл бұрын
I’m not positive, but I think that’s how most animated projects are recorded? If that’s true, then I think it goes to show that a proper director / producer is absolutely VITAL. Look at Bojack Horsecock- I mean, Horseman. The actors are all recorded separately, and that show’s a frakkin’ masterpiece.
@frankmerker6304 жыл бұрын
@@unclegumbald989 usually, decent voice direction would include playback of the other voice actor's lines in the scene or the director would be able to verbally communicate what tone they should try to achieve and really deliver it convincingly even when the actors aren't in the same room. Many directors of animated movies are able to achieve this. In this, it's as if he handed a copy of the script to the actors and only took the first take of them reading their lines.
@pianfarndt4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there needs to be more communication overall. The actors that should be talking to each other in a scene should be talking to each other in real life as much as possible. It's kind of like leaving someone a voicemail, but you are trying to answer questions you think they might say if they did pick up the phone. Then the person listening to the voicemail later tries to fill in the gaps. But they only get to listen to the voicemail once. Maybe my analogy makes no sense haha.

That line doesn't make sense in context of the scene either. "Escaping your destiny" would imply that Simba refuses to become king when that isn't the case at that point. The MPAA standards are so different now. Don Hahn (TLK ‘94 producer) said they would’ve lost the G rating to a PG if the groundhog that speaks with Zazu after the pouncing lesson had been a naked mole rat, as it was originally intended. The scene where Nala is banished after refusing Scar’s sexual advances was scrapped to avoid a PG-13 rating. It’s amazing how they got away with Nala’s do me eyes, though, when the crew doesn’t even hide it was meant to be sexual. Nowadays, everything gets slapped with a PG rating unless it’s content exclusively made for children under the age of 6.

12:25 Back then movie ratings were a lot more lax. Airplane is rated pg even though there’s plenty of jokes that wouldn’t fly (hehe) in a modern pg rated movie.

Damn, for real? I watched it on Netflix recently and i didn't even notice the rating. Hell, there's a couple of tit shots and even a blowjob joke in the movie; that would NOT pass for PG today XD

Yeah, movies rated PG back in the day are essentially today's raunchy PG-13 movies.

Airplane came out before PG-13 was a thing, The Lion King did not. The only reason the remake is rated higher is that the comparable violence looks "live-action."

It's like what James Rolfe said about the special editions having a VHS transfer as a "DVD extra". It's funny how the actual film is now just something extra you get on the DVD.
@jesusangulo21194 жыл бұрын
What is most infuriating about this is that every aspect of this movie, plot, music, characters (or lack there of) is design to remind you a better movie rather than its own. They had shit loads of money and resources and yet the end result is a movie that it's literally nostalgia bait Ready Player one BS of the original Lion King, and somehow completely destroy everything good about it. However, I would have not hated this movie so much if at least any effort from the developers of this film could have been visible or emphasized, or a least something new or original but there is nothing there.

Simba's line about 'even who to marry' - we really out here implying that this lion's father would force him into a loveless marriage? Or that lions are getting married? Lion brides and lion grooms? Are there bastard lions born out of wedlock? As far as I remember the original didn't bring it up, which is the way more elegant way to do these things 😂

@AllyGatorAnimator4 жыл бұрын
@@user-kt3zv1cm5j Yeah, with the monarchy aspect they definitely went more with the concept of a human monarchy rather than how actual prides work, so it's easy to overthink it (like, I don't think Mufasa is meant to be Nala's father too, but there's no other males except for Scar, so whatever the outcome Nala is either related to Simba or a bastard child). I guess because they wanted it to be more relatable and also stick more to the Hamlet story. There's an animated series online called "My Pride" which, while obviously having fictional elements(like, the lions have their own folk tales, ceremonies, religion etc), actually has the lions operate more like a pride, which was interesting to see after growing up with The Lion King for so long and noticing that.

Adam, Can You Feel the Love Tonight's tune also plays in the original when Simba and Nala are cubs. If you listen closely in the scene leading up to 'I Just Can't Wait To Be King' you can hear a pan flute play the tune - it's WAY more subtle and nice to listen to in the original; but it's there. It fits better with the context too in the first one, it plays while Zazu is talking about their betrothal. I agree the remake is shoving it down your throat more, but it's still a weak point gievn this. I hope he doesn't make that a point in the review, there's a slight oversight there.
@myhopeyourhopej-hope99132 жыл бұрын
The difference is that is the scene where their betrothal and inevitable relationship is first mentioned. It is arguably the theme for their relationship and works as a neat little foreshadowing. Having it when she's getting a bath doesn't work because nothing in this scene is about their eventual romantic relationship. If anything, it is creepy because it is like playing a sexy song overtop a child in the bath with it's mom. Disturbing. But it wasn't in the review itself anyway.

I think the "stay downwind" might mean to stay downwind of the other lions, presumably so that the pride could locate them by smell if they got lost. When people say "stay downwind" they usually mean "stay downwind of here." Still doesn't make sense though since Zazu would be with them and presumably should be preventing them from getting lost in the first place.

This whole argument of the original doing more in less time reminds me of Every Frame A Painting's video on Satoshi Kon. I think it has to do with how animation can deliver information in very few frames, whereas something more "realistic" or a live action movie doesn't have the same capacities

Live Action movie is usually slower than the animated version one because: 1. Adding more bullshit because of CoUrSe We NeEd mOrE eXpLanAtiOn oN EvErYtHinG 2. Ok, this is a serious answer. Mostly because real life is just slower than animation. I watch Every Frame a Painting's video about Satoshi Kon, the Paprika and Perfect Blue's director. With only small amount of frames, you can jampack any information that you need and live action just can't.
