The Comanche have a god-like reputation on horseback. The Americans found it slightly scary how in tune with their horses they were. I don’t know exactly how a Comanche would take down a predator on horseback though, even with a spear the predator can just shoot the horse, disable the weapon, or lunge forward at the right time and knock both of them down. Predators are pretty fast and scary, and their weapons cleaving through people would likely have a similar effects to the obsidian weapons of the Aztecs (very dead horses)

My favorite thing about this film was that out of all the young Native American men who died to the Predator, only her brother is the one who is even remotely mourned, and that's by the MC and her Mother. The movie forgets about literally all of the other ones as soon as they die. The main character also becomes a total psychopath, and the path she takes into that level of violence doesn't have a single speed bump of hesitation or conscience. One minute she's hunting animals, the next she's cutting French trapper's legs off to use their crippled bodies as bait. Was she imprisoned? Yes. Was her brother cut across his chest? Yes. Were they strung up as bait? Yes. Doesn't excuse the shift from "panicked young woman" to "literal dismemberment of another, living human." There is zero character scaling happening. She doesn't even "descend" into that type of mindset. They literally just cut to her having cut this dude's fucking legs off. lmao I was also kind of surprised by how little fucks she gave about the Predator just in general. I mean, think about it: an invisible entity literally hoisted a full-grown bear over its head and showered in its blood. It then chased her and her entire group over the plains until it ended up covered entirely in the blood of people she'd known for her entire life. She is not a trained military commando used to hundreds of battles. She is a child. She should be literally shitting herself in abject fear and horror. Or at least act like it! _This movie makes zero fucking sense._ I felt less intelligent after having watched this film. It is a crime against creativity. The only good things were the cinematography and the Predator's design.
@Zlarel8 ай бұрын
I mean, tbf the Natives that died were beating the crap out of her seconds before. And the reasons you listed are pretty good ones for pushing her to crippling the French dude as bait, especially after seeing her brother killed whom he'd also brutalized. And a tribeswoman from a superstitious culture could probably more quickly rationalize something shocking like a Predator as "That must be one of the supernatural beings we have stories about". Like tribes who saw European men and ships for the first time and while surprised or frightened more of less took it in stride because they very loosely lined up with some people from their folklore

@Shinkajo2 жыл бұрын
I'm convinced that the reason they didn't shoot it in comanche ftom the beginning was not the merger, which was merely an excuse, but the fact that they realised that the actors, most of whom don't speak anything other than English, were too terrible at speaking comanche and also that it would have required too much work. Because at the end of the day it's a product to be sold to the masses and not some in depth celebration of native American culture like they are pretending for marketing.

I'm pretty sure most serious historians would agree that women's roles in hunter-gatherer societies went far beyond just cooking, looking pretty and being belittled by arrogant men all day. I'm sorry, but these sad attempts at making some kind of girl-boss narrative are ironically extremely sexist, completely denying women historical agency by pretending that women would *not* be expected to know the basics of hunting or fighting if the need should ever arise, which it likely did on a regular basis. It's not like these communities would have been completely unaware of the value of having more hands capable of joining in when it came to securing food. What, if the men all got sick or perished, do you honestly think the tribe's women would just sit there and starve? Come on. Yes, it's sexist toward men to suggest that all men in all eras are just blatantly misogynistic in everything they do, and are so conscious of their ego that they can't accept female assistance. It's a tired trope. But it's even more unironically sexist toward the women being portrayed as utterly helpless and without agency. And obviously the facts of how they would have been living, let alone looking, are also wrong, because no one actually cares about history. "Let's make a period piece about a girl-boss hunter! ... But make sure she's *hot*, otherwise no one's going to watch it, right?" I mean, cooome ooon... For shame.

The rise of grain farming and agriculture is actually what led to bad teeth. Historically and into today, hunter-gatherer tribes actually have very good teeth that are often amazingly straight and not too yellow. Look online for examples of Eskimos' teeth in particular, it's fascinating. On their traditional diets they can have stunning teeth, but Eskimos who have integrated into Western society and have adopted a Western diet have much more crooked and yellow teeth.

The same was true when the Mongols were attacking China. The Chinese were physically smaller and were in overall worse health, often with teeth falling out with their mostly rice diet. @davejones94692 жыл бұрын
@@TheMedicatedArtist Which is even worse, considering how easy it is for Hollywood to make teeth look nasty. Too many compromises given for the benefit of the actors, in that they want to look good on screen so would probably not even want to have the makeup done properly. All this despite the fact great actors are praised for putting themselves through horrible stuff instead of using doubles, and aren't afraid to look like crap on screen if it fits the character. Best recent example I can think of is Willem Dafoe in The Lighthouse, crawling around naked on the ground, covered in dirt, woofing like a dog, and even having dirt thrown all over his face in a close up. THAT is how you become a great actor: let go of your vanity. PS Fuck your spoiler warning, if you haven't seen The Lighthouse by now, you probably were never going to. Something I haven't seen anyone critique about this movie is the amount of anoying setups/chekhov's gun this freaking movie has during all it's runtime, the ridiculous herb, the stupid swamp, the mask, the pistol, the predator bear trap, the freaking axe with a rope ( I'm sure there are more but I'm not seeing this movie again to remember them, no way) It's completely ridiculous and contrived, almoust all movies have one or two at most, but this is overkill, all the movie is that instead of character development or history, and it's so obvious, the point of setups is that they have to be sutil and don't bring attention so that you forget about them, and then when it comes out again it clicks. Instead the whole movie was made around them, it was like a damn final destination movie, everything conviniently came togheter to form the perfect plan, and it's just as ridiculous, at least in final destination is kind of the point, the campiness of it all, all that stupid shit has to happen to every kill.

@@samjane3500 I don't know if it's that or is it because the franchise has been a big mess and they will take anything that isn't "so bad" but like I said they dedicated the whole movie to setups just for the kill of the predator and forgot you know, characters, history, plot, little things like that, not that there isn't absolutly nothing but why bother if it's going to be so superficial. And worst of all is that you can develop characters and plot with setups, for example just at the top of my head in the dark knight (spoilers) we see harvey dent with his coin playing with chances, even in a menacing way to one of the joker's minions, but later you realize that it was a coin with the same face in both sides, so he was not really playing with his chances, he wasn't two face still, but because of what happens later to rachel that nobody expect it to happen, then in the hospital he saw the coin again, the shiny side first, get hope for rachel, for then to just turn it to see the burnt side to get crushedand enraged and become two face, without a single word of exposition just showing what was setup, that's great writting, it's sutil, it's not obvious that it will happen or how, and develops the plot and characters.

Regarding the dialogue being in English and your comparison to the Pianist, I'll say that I actually prefer when dialogue that is supposed to be in another language doesn't have an accent because an accent comes about when you are trying to speak a language that is not your primary. Having an accent implies that they're just speaking English but from the location they're in, which to me doesn't make sense. Also, you often end up with inconsistent accents, where some people have them and some don't, even though they're all from the same region.

But speaking in an American accent is better?

@rickkcir21512 жыл бұрын
I feel as if I have to say this. But have any of you thought that the reason they scrapped the “they speak Comanche” idea is because there’s only like 10 people who are actually fluent in Comanche. I don’t expect that of those 10 there would be talented VAs that can dub the movie. Considering the Comanche dub that did come out for the movie, I’d say my expectations were correct. I see some mentioning Apocalypto. But they spoke Yucatec Maya, which has close to a million speakers. It kind of seems like a lot of people have the mindset of “oh they should have done that” without realizing it’s easier said than done when we’re talking about a language that’s on the verge of extinction.
@rickkcir21512 жыл бұрын
@@DeCapitanOG My point is that they likely were planning to do it in Comanche which is why they marketed it originally. Then realized that it simply isn’t feasible because only a handful of people actually speak the language. So their only options were to hire some of the people who speak the language to dub the actors over. But since so few people do speak it there’s almost certainly none who can give a good vocal performance. Just because a person can speak doesn’t mean they can voice act. The other option would be to just have the actors try and speak Comanche. Which would have been a disaster. I just view this as a dumb “controversy”. People are acting like the only reason the movie wasn’t done in Comanche is because the movie studio was lazy. When in reality it just isn’t possible in any meaningful sense.
@holdingpattern2452 жыл бұрын
then why Comanche, couldn't they do it in Navajo, Sioux, Apache, Cherokee, etc.
@rickkcir21512 жыл бұрын
@@holdingpattern245 I’d assume it’s because of the region. The movie takes place in the Great Plains if I’m not mistaken. The Navajo and Apache lived in the South West, the Cherokee lived in the South East, and the Sioux lived around what is now Wisconsin and Illinois. The Comanche lived around North Texas, East Colorado, and Kansas. It just wouldn’t make sense to have them speaking the language of a tribe that lived halfway across the country. Which in turn would of likely sparked a controversy.

A lot of the scenes in movies where someone gets knocked out (quite often by a baseball bat or a rifle butt), would actually lead to them never waking up, yet in the movie they're intending to simply knock them out. If you hit someone hard enough to knock them out, and they don't regain consciousness pretty soon afterwards, you caused a LOT of brain damage or death. I wonder how many people have hit someone in the head with an object, to knock them out, but end up killing them, thanks to the misinfo in movies.

I simply don't believe the reviewers who "love" this film, it is SO badly written and inauthentic, starring a cute teenage girl with perfect teeth and flowing Pocahontas hair. You can see Disney's grimy fingerprints all over it. How awesome would it have been to have everyone speaking Comanche, if this warrior girl had the battle scars to prove it, if she were an ugly outcast turned total bad ass who saves her tribe?
