I am absolutely loving your cat's energy as he/ she is interacting with you! He or she is quite attentive sitting and looking right at you listening to you give instruction and information. What a joy to watch this video I'm only 3 minutes in and it's making me smile for several reasons thanks so much for making this video!

Thanks April. I've been doing yin yoga for quite awhile now and had been shopping around for bolsters. I'm a tall guy and this video really helped me to decide on sizing and type of material that I might want. Thanks again, I'm going to check out your bolster links a little later.

I forgot to mention, I'm totally new to yoga and just found out about Yin yoga today. I stretched out my shoulders really well using two of the Yin poses! There is just so much to learn about yoga!! I have to resist the urge to try and do everything all at once. 😂 I know it's important that I correct the damage that is done by sitting most of the day everyday for years and years. Any advise you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Definitely take it slow and start with Yin and Restorative yoga first. If anything hurts (sharp shooting pains, pain that takes your breath away), immediately come out of the pose or use pillows, towels to support yourself. You can use a rolled up towel under your upper back crossways and down the middle of your spine to open it two different ways. This can be done whenever you are just relaxing or watching tv to release the back daily. I use it almost every day to open my chest and shoulders and allow me to breath deeper. Hold the Yin poses only as long as you feel you can and start to come out if it it too much. Most people start with 1-2 minutes per posture and then slowly lengthen the hold times as their body opens. Let me know how things go and feel free to try some of the shorter Yin Yoga Snacks to get a feel for the poses and shorter holds. Have a great weekend!

Thank you for this! I am shopping for bolsters for restorative yoga. I sit at a computer and over electronics far to often. I would like to correct the forward slouch of my shoulders and improve my posture in general.

Thank you! I am 5'4" and most "standard" length bolsters fit me perfectly (I have a long torso). 24-25" in length should keep you very comfortable.

Hello I purchased the thick rectangular bolster from YD. It is really well made, and should last for many years. I just recieved it today. I think it may be too thick for me. (I'm not very flexable). I will keep it, however, I'm going to order the bolster that is not so thick. I think this will be a good choice for me, untill I increase my flexability.

You can also remove some of the stuffing (I did) to make it more I able and less dense/big. 😊

Hello, I am new to all of this. I’ve been hit in 3 different car accidents (south FL ah!). Thankfully my spine is okay but my muscles and fascia are affected. I’m 5’1 34yr athletic female. I’m so interested in some yin poses I saw like putting bolster under back with legs in butterfly. I am pretty flexible. I think a rectangular bolster would be good for this but what dimensions do you think? Is taller better (like if I lay on it, how many inches “tall” should it be or does it matter?) Wider or narrower? Thanks! I plan to learn at home. I love stretching in general.

A taller/width from floor up bolster (one with more stuffing) will give you more boost but I find I like a medium height (6-9 inches tall or so - I am 5'4"). Rectangular bolsters are all about the same width so you should find they are all wide enough to accommodate your back comfortably. If you buy a bolster and it has too much "loft or height", you can open it up (most have covers you can unzip) and pull out a bit of stuffing OR with some use the bolster will soften. For Yin in particular, it might be better to have a softer, less tall bolster as we stay in the poses a long time. You might find some bolsters that are super skinny and they are best for pranayama/breathing practices and run the length of the spine only. The wider bolsters are for all around use and you can use them for both Yin and Restorative easily. Let me know if you have any other questions and I wish you luck in finding your bolster!
